Chapter 1:

The New Assitant

Ex-High Schooler Hero

“You are going to be late!”

He heard the voice of his mother downstairs and knew that it wasn’t true. He was ready for school, already wearing his high school uniform and with his bag pack.

The window in his small room illuminated the 15-years old blonde and wild hair, on the outside showed a tree where birds made a nest. The boy loved to watch the creatures, even if he knew his mother would be mad.

“Fulgor! Come eat!”

Snapping out of his trance, Fulgor ran down the stairs, seeing his mother. A lovely woman with dark hair and a worried smile on her face.

“The breakfast is already cold! You must stop daydreaming or someday you will fly away from this world.”

Fulgor smiled at his mother and started eating hastily. Coming back to reality just made the boy worried. He remembered what happened the last few days. A man in a black trench coat was after him and his friends.

As soon as he finished, he sprinted to the school, barely remembering to kiss his mother goodbye. As he ran, electrical sparks flew from his shoes and Fulgor remembered when he discovered his powers.

People all over the world have connections to one of the elements. Just a small number of them awakened this power, and Fulgor was excited by discovering the ability to summon lightning. The problem is that the same power that made him special, also put a target on his back.

On the first days Fulgor just played with his powers, learned about other two in his class with similar abilities and enjoyed his high school life as a lighting elemental.

It was then that the trench coat man sent his minions to capture the trio. Until now they have fought, however the leader seemed to be preparing to make an attack himself and Fulgor did not think they were ready for this.

Soon he could see the school. A large building with three floors full of children and teens. The place he spent most of his years with joy and friends.

“Hey Fulgor, what is up with your face?”

Fulgor turned to see Miles, his oldest friend. Miles wore a large pair of glasses and had short brown hair. Unfortunately, Miles was not an elemental, Fulgor would prefer ten times to be a partner to Miles than to the wind elemental of his class.

“Elemental stuff. Today is going to be hard. That man in the trench coat said he would attack, I think you should go home for today.”

“Are you kidding me? We have that math test.”

“Is it today?!”

Fulgor was way more nervous for the test than the villain. Asking for Miles’s help as he did a last-minute study while they were going to their class and siting in their places.

The classmates were going to their chairs and Fulgor did not pay attention to the other two elementals as he was too worried with numbers.

Soon the teacher entered the room, creating a deadly silence. All the teens were anxious with the test and were not in the mood to talk.

The teacher was a woman in her forties, with long dark hair. This time she entered with a young man by her side. He did not appear to be over 22, light brown hair, reaching his shoulders, and an excited smile on his face.

“Class, this is Kazen, he will be my new assistant. I want everybody to treat him well.”

With a fast reverence, Kazen showed his energy to the class.

“Nice to meet you! I hope we all get along!”

There was something off with this man. Fulgor noticed his eyes scanning the room carefully and unconsciously felt the sparks running in his veins.

Fulgor looked to the front of the class, where a tomboyish girl with short dark brown hair was seated. She did not appear to notice anything with Kazen. Fulgor then turns to a chair close to the window, seeing a boy that made him want to puke. With a well combed dark hair, the boy stared intently at his notes and also seemed to not notice Kazen.

“That is all. Now prepare for the test, this will not be an easy one.”

As the sheets of paper were distributed to the class, Fulgor wanted to blame Kazen for not understanding the test, however he did not knew the answers with or without a potential enemy watching.

Kazen spent the whole time observing the students in silence, preventing Fulgor to cheat. Soon, the new assistant fell asleep with his mouth open.

What is the problem with this guy?

Without even being able to finish the test, the time was over, and they needed to return their answers.

In the hallway Fulgor cried to Miles about how terrible he was in the test.

“This way I will not be accepted by any collage.”

“Of course, you are a shame to this whole school.”

The one who talked was not Miles, but the boy with dark hair. He had a disgusted look on his face, like the act of talking to Fulgor was terrible as jumping in the trash.

“What do you want, Auron?”

Auron had a perfect posture, his uniform was impeccable and looking at his dark eyes was like looking at a king ready to send you to death.

“We have to talk about that guy.”

Ignoring completely the presence of Miles, he pulled Fulgor away to a less crowded corner in the hallway.

There, the tomboyish girl was already waiting. Immediately the posture of Fulgor changed, as he could not hide the happiness of seeing her.

“Hello, Lapis. Sorry I did not say good morning before, I was studying.”

“Just a stupid loser to study just before the test.” Said Auron.

With a big smile and a thumbs up, Lapis answered Fulgor.

“No problem. I was also studying.”

That answer made Auron lose his perfect posture.

“No, wait. It is okay if you studied, the problem is when Fulgor....”

He clearly lost control, making a malicious smile in Fulgor’s face.

“Who is the stupid now?”

Fulgor and Auron started almost attacking each other. Sparks flew from Fulgor’s body and gusts of wind emanated from Auron.

“Are we going to fight? I have been practicing.” Said Lapis excited without understanding what was happening.

They calmed down and started to talk seriously.

“The guy in the trench coat said he would come today.” Said Auron.

Just speaking about how that man made the three anxious.

“You did not think that Kazen guy was weird? He appeared the same day we would be attacked.”

They considered what Fulgor said, but none of the other two thought anything about Kazen.

“We should at least wait on the rooftop. If that guy attacks here a lot of kids will be hurt.”

The boys looked at the hallway, full of teens without power, and they agreed with Lapis.

With determined steps and hoping that they would finish before the next lesson, the trio arrived at the rooftop.

Now the sky was covered with gray clouds and a cold wind traveled between the three. Fulgor felt a chill in his spine and got nervous about his and Lapis’ life. He did not care a lot about Auron though.

Then they saw. Like a ripple in reality itself, a window of darkness appeared with the silhouette of a man.

He wore a top hat and a black trench coat. His hair was also dark and had a grim smile on his face.

“So, I see you all reunited for me. Thank you, this will spare me the trouble of hunting you down.”

Fulgor made his sparks appear, as Auron used the wind in his favor and Lapis, with a heavy step, broke parts of the ceiling making the rocks float in front of her.

“How cute, three kids that just learn how to use their powers. Release!”

When the man said the final word, darkness surrounded him, making patterns in his face and emanating a heavy pressure on the rooftop.

The kids looked at each other. The power the man had was way stronger than anything the kids could do. That is when they heard a new voice.

“Cool, you have the first release. Can you do the second or the third?”

All of them were shocked to see Kazen behind the kids. He was relaxed and did not cared about the vortex of darkness in front of him.

“There is… more than one release?” Asked the man in the trench coat, failing to maintain his menacing presence.

“Oh, I see. You are still at that level. Let me show the ceiling one can reach. Third Release!”

All of them felt heat from Kazen. Flames appeared by his side, way bigger than the darkness before. Red markings appear on his face, as horns sprout from his head and his hair turned crimson. A pair of bat wings grew on his back and his hands appeared to be claws.

He pointed his finger to the man and a continuous flame was shot, too hot to withstand, even melting a part of the roof. When the flames went out the villain was on the ground, covered with black ashes, breathing, but unconscious.

“I guess I went a little too hard on him. But it is not my fault that he was so weak. I Never learned his name.”

The three teens watched in disbelief at the man who just defeated their enemy. Now back at his normal form and with a huge smile on his face.
