Chapter 2:
Ex-High Schooler Hero
The three teens and Kazen were at a table in the courtyard of the school. Still in disbelief they watched the new assistant waiting for answers.
“What was that?” Asked Fulgor when no one was talking.
“Just a little demonstration of my power. Don’t worry, he is not dead, but you can be sure he will be behind bars for a long time.”
“So, you knew that man?” Continued Auron.
“No, not really”
The indifference of Kazen was starting to annoy the trio.
“Then how did you appear to help us?” Asked Lapis.
“Listen, children, when you have superpowers in high school, life is the best. You go on adventures and meet new people. Learn new techniques and get stronger. The problem is after that. The enemies when you are an adult are politics and economics, and it is very hard to punch this in the face.”
The half answer of Kazen did not satisfied the trio. Sparks flew from Fulgor as Kazen laugh at his face.
“So, tell us what you are doing!”
Kazen held Fulgor by the head, not caring about the sparks that reached his body.
“I created a master plan. I am going to infiltrate high schools and continue my adventure, facing the enemies that appear to the others, since I defeated almost all of my own.”
For the first time, Fulgor and Auron exchange honest emotions hearing all that without knowing how to continue the conversation.
“You are a hero that has no more villains to fight, so you go to schools to fight their enemies?” Lapis tried to make sense of it all.
“Exactly. You would be surprised how many high schools have villains attacking. Aliens, vampires, demons. Here appear to be more elementals.”
After finally understanding the man the three talked a little when Fulgor reached a conclusion.
“So, you are super powerful because you already did all the adventures we were supposed to do in high school?”
Kazen simply nods his head.
“That means you can teach us! That release thing appeared to be super powerful!”
The idea excited Lapis and even Auron smiled with the thought of getting that power.
“No deal.”
Kazen stood up, leaving the kids frustrated.
“I am not a master for the next generation. I am still not ready to stop my adventures. I will help you and be sure that your enemies don’t hurt you too much. But I will not teach you a thing!”
The supposed adult acted more childish than any of the three, like a kid who does not want to share his ball.
“You are just an old dude that don’t want to grow up!” Protested Fulgor.
“Wrong. I am an old dude that can defeat all your enemies before you have a chance to act. Think for the bright side: you don’t need to worry about villains and fights. You can live your school life enjoying your abilities without going to the hospital every other week.”
Kazen looked at a book over the table and his eyes widened.
“I have to return this book, or I will be fired on my first day! Catch you later, kids!”
Without any more words he ran with a supernatural speed, leaving the three behind.
“Well, that was pointless.” Said Fulgor sad.
“I don’t care what he said, I will learn these releases all by myself!”
The determination of Auron spread to the colleagues. The group was not accepting the words of Kazen.
“Not if I learn first!”
Once again, the two boys stared, ready for a fight and left to learn the techniques all by themselves, leaving Lapis alone at the table.
“I thought we would learn faster if we tried together, but I guess I will do it alone too.”
Inside the school, Kazen arrived at the library, almost exploding with his speed. The place was not huge, but well kept, with shelves of dark wood and a large collection of books.
“Hello, I have come to return this book.”
Kazen screamed not realizing he should be silent in the library. Soon a woman arrived, the same age of Kazen, with curly light brown hair and a pair of glasses.
“Hey, silence in the library!”
Immediately Kazen became embarrassed and apologized, almost whispering his response.
“I have come to return this book.”
The woman smiled at him and grabbed the book. He accompanied her to the counter where she updated the system with the returned object. The whole time she was looking at him inquisitive.
“Do I know you?” Asked her.
“I am Kazen, I just started as an assistant. And you are?”
“My name is Loretta, I am also kind of new in the school.”
She did not break eye contact until the memories came back.
“You are Kazen! The boy who defeated the cursed tree!”
He did not hide his proud smile, realizing he had a fan in the school.
“That’s right, it was me all alone, how do you know that?”
As Kazen talked, he tried to flex his muscles to her, failing miserably since his school attire covered his whole body.
“My school was also on that field trip. You were so stupid back then.”
The words took a while to make sense on Kazen’s head as she smiled the whole time.
“What?”
“You were insufferable! Always trying to show how amazing and powerful you were and attempting to flirt with that girl… What was her name?”
Even with the hard words, Loretta seemed to be enjoying talking to Kazen as she had a whimsical energy.
“Well, her name is Alis but… I was not insufferable!”
“Oh, you were SO insufferable. You wanted to destroy the three before that other kid, while you should be working together. That clearly shows how insecure you were.”
“It is impossible to work together with Ferrum! And I am not insecure! Why am I here trying to explain myself to you?”
She laughed at his face as she picked a pile of books to put them back on the shelfs.
“Because you are insecure. Do not worry, Kazen, we were kids, it is normal to be stupid. I can give you a chance to prove me wrong.”
The phrase just made him more uncomfortable. He did not want to be different. He wanted to be the same and have the same adventures.
“Okay, Loretta, I have to go to class. See you later, or not.”
The end of his speech was lower so she could not hear and, as fast as he arrived, he left.
