Mac and Saffire

It’s hot out today. I feel the sun shining down on my face as I walk out the door. I don’t feel much need to even go to school anymore but I go regardless to hang out with my classmates before having to fight in the war. I see my good friend Mac reading under the sakura tree we spend a lot of our time. 

“Hey Mac! Over here!” I yell out to him.

He looks up from his book and watches as I run over. 

“Are you coming to school? You’re always just sitting here under this tree reading some book. What are you reading anyways?”

I snatch the book out of his hand and look at the cover. 

“The Complete History of Arcanas? You read this crap? You know these kinds of history authors just make shit up right? Nobody knows where arcanas really come from.” I say to him.

“Don’t you find it interesting though? Getting even a little bit of insight into where our abilities came from? Any bit of info can hold some truth you know.” He replies.

Mac is tall guy with medium black hair and glasses. He was always into any bit of knowledge he could get his hands on real or fake.

“Well you do you man but you should come with me to school. Less then a week left and you’d rather be sitting here exposing yourself to some false knowledge then socializing with our friends.”

“I’ll be fine don’t worry Link. My father needs my help with something today anyways so I need to do that soon.” He says.

Mac is seen as a prodigy in our town with colleges all around asking him to enroll already so i guess he doesn’t necessarily need to come to school with me. Still, I wish he would just say his goodbyes to our classmates before just disappearing.

I finish up my discussion with Mac and make my way to school alone. I’m greeted by multiple classmates at the entrance and I smile and wave. I like to think I have plenty of friends. I always seem to catch this green haired demi-human watching me from afar and it makes me slightly uncomfortable. 

I make it into my classroom and sit at my spot by the window. I chose this seat because it made me feel like some badass anime protagonist. While i’m sitting here, a shadowy figure emerges from behind me.

“BOO!” I nearly jump out the window.

I turn around to see my friend Saffire standing behind me, laughing hysterically. Saffire is a pretty girl, with bright purple long hair and eyes of the same color. 

“The fu- You really gotta stop doing that!” I say to her.

“But you’re so easy to scare! I get you every time.” She says still half laughing.

Saffire has always had a very energetic and fun loving personality. She takes every opportunity she can get to mess mess with me. It’s not like I hate it though, it’s always just been a big part of our friendship.

She finally manages to regain her composure.

"You look so depressed sitting there by yourself, you should come talk to everyone! They want to spend time with you! Especially the second years."

"The second years? Why them?"

"Well they still have one more year at this school while you and all the rest of us third years are leaving in a few days. They want to spend all the time they can with all of us."

"Well I was planning on hanging out with everyone anyways so how about you take me to them." I say, standing up.

"Good! Right this way sir!" She says while bowing. 

As we walk through the school, Saffire speaks up.

"Soooooo. There's this new restaurant that opened yesterday. I heard it has really good food."

Wait. I she trying to get me to-

"Oh cool. Food is pretty good."

I opened my mouth without thinking. God i'm such an idiot. I always say some dumbass shit when I get put on the spot.

"Huh? Oh, yeah. Food is pretty good." Saffire replies sounding surprised.

Fuck. This is so awkward. I screwed myself didn't I?

"So, um. Wanna like, go try out the food there later today? Of course you don't have to if you don't want to! I was just wondering because-"

"Sure!" I blurt out.

"Oh cool! So, how about we meet in front of the school at 6:00 PM today?"

Saffire sounds happy. She's red like a tomato and i'm positive I am too.

"Yeah, sounds good." I say to her, slightly looking away.

"Ok good, see you later today!" Saffire says before running off.

"I thought we were gonna go hang out with the-!" 

Never mind she's gone. 

Did I just get a date? Woah...

I decide to head back to my class since class is about to start and go about the rest of my day.
