A Date?

The broken walls of the school were covered by wooden planks as they tried to fix all the damage made when the Malebranche attacked. In the teachers’ room, Kazen was receiving a warning.

“You helped to defeat that tree monster, that is the only reason we are not firing you.” Said the teacher to Kazen.

“I did nothing wrong! They destroyed the school, and it was Fulgor that broke the wall!”

The teacher clearly did not wanted to have this conversation as she took a deep breath to restore her patience.

“This type of thing never happened before you appeared, so please, cooperate with me Kazen. This is your last chance. And, as punishment, you will have to accompany the kids to the field trip.”

He had a lot of responses, however he started to think about this field trip.”

“Where will it be?”

“To the beach and you must take this very seriously, the supervision of all the students will be your responsibility, so please, don’t do anything stupid.”

He jumped excited, ignoring anything she said after the word ‘beach’.

“Beach episode!”

Fulgor and the others received instructions on the trip. They would be studying the biome of the region, trying to list all the fauna and flora, and making a presentation in the end.

Just like Kazen, Fulgor was more excited to enjoy a day on the beach with his friends, and that was all he could think about the next week.

“This is perfect! I can declare my love to Lapis on the beach! That would be so romantic!”

Miles had no energy to have this conversation again, so he just agreed with his head. Suddenly, Kazen appeared in between the boys, like he just teleported.

“So, is the beach a good place to declare one’s love? This beach episode will be the best!”

“What are you talking about?” Asked Miles.

“The beach episode is a special where the characters can interact and enjoy life without caring about the problems of the world. Sometimes it isn’t even all cannon, but it is always fun.”

“It is not an episode, it is a school trip!” Protested Fulgor to no result.

Kazen was looking at his cellphone, barely listening to what the duo was talking.

“I’m going to ask Alis out! We can go to the beach together! She is the best since high school.”

“Aren’t you supposed to look after us? I don’t think you can take a date on the school trip.”

Kazen was too focused on his cellphone, or at least he pretended to be so he did not had to to deal with reality.

“She agreed to go on a date with me! I’m going to see her tonight and then I will ask her to come on the trip with us! You are going to love Alis, she is perfect.”

Flames were coming out Kazen’s eyes as his plan appeared to be working. He did not even said goodbye to the two teens and left the place, sending more messages to Alis and not noticing anything on his surroundings, making him fall into the trash can.”

“Miles, do I look like him when I talk about Lapis?”

It was possible to notice the worry on Fulgor’s voice and, to his sadness, Miles nodded.

“I swear to you, I will be better. I don’t want to become that guy when I grow up.”

In the night of the same day, Kazen was waiting in front of a restaurant. His long hair was in a bun and his clothes were cleaner than usual.

It did not take a lot of time for the woman to appear. She was 22 years old, shorter than Kazen, with black hair that reached her waist. She smiled when she saw her friend.

They hugged each other and went directly to a table to order some food. The restaurant was full, Kazen had to make a reservation to find a space. Waiter crosses the space with trails of food and they could feel the delicious smell of all the dishes.

“How are you, Kazen? It has been so long since we met!”

“Yes! I’m great. Working at a high school.”

Even after all this time Kazen had the same feelings for her as he had in high school. It was a magical moment to be on a date with her.

“A school? Really? I did not think about you as a teacher.”

“Well, I made this plan to continue living adventures and…”

Alis interrupted him with a cute laugh.

“Yes, it is so you to try going after more adventures.”

Kazen could not understand why she was laughing.

“What is the problem?”

“Oh, nothing. Just that our adventures were so long ago. I haven't even thought about that since I started college. I’m studying to become a veterinarian by the way.”

The man was so excited to talk about their adventures that the conversation got weird, like both couldn’t connect as their lives went different ways.

They kept talking, trying to make things become natural. Even if Alis wasn’t in love with Kazen, she still cared a lot about him and was sad not to be able to have the same conversation.

“By the way, Alis, my school is going on a field trip to the beach. Want to come to? It’s going to be epic.”

Once again she laughed.

“Oh, you are being serious. Sorry, Kazen, I don’t want to go to the beach with a bunch of kids with superpowers. Maybe next time.”

With heart broken the date ended and each went their own ways. That conversation hasn’t changed Kazen’s feelings towards Alis, he knew she also liked their adventures and, even being sad that she didn’t want to go to the beach, there could always be a next time.
