Chapter 11:

Triple threat showdown

Memory 262

Edra, Xiba and Soya were expecting a tough fight but were now in a situation where they had to force themselves to fight with everything they had gotten.

Edra had a new ability, the ability to fight without transformation, but it had its flaws. He can’t go all out in that state. He had to turn the tables in his favour and make do with what he had. Xiba was also in the same type of situation. Where the way she fights will determine who will win. Soya was prepared as well. She had a few tricks up her sleeves.

So those are our enemies huh? I need to defeat him first, and I can find out later how it came to be like this, I thought. The humanoid robot was coming at me with incredible speed, but I managed to dodge his punches one after another. He was pushing me back, and if this continued he would pin me against the wall. Which will leave me with no room to evade his punches. I knew about these robots and how they use AI and calculation to predict their opponent's moves, So I did something unexpected. I got on my knees soon as he threw a punch in my direction, it was enough to make him hit the wall instead of my head and confuse his CPU. I grabbed its foot and twisted it as I moved from its front to side, it seemed I could defeat it easily as the foot broke from its ankle. I got the gist of how I could control my powers.

My celebration didn’t last long as the robot kicked me in the face without even looking. He sent me flying toward the isle of books. “Ahh, gotta say, you are a tough opponent.” I took two deep breaths; I didn’t want to go all out as it could easily make me transform. I wonder how Xiba and Soya are holding?

Xiba, even though technically less powerful than Edra was managing to hold ground. Thanks to the intense training in the past, which moulded her into a good fighter.

“You wanna fight? Let’s play then.” I approached its head and turned right soon as I was going to hit it, confusing it wasn’t a big deal. That’s why those bots were used in situations where humans could die, especially situations like defusing bombs and reconnaissance of enemy territory. I landed my left knee on its shoulder and dislocated it. It didn’t hurt the bot of course but managed to make it unuseful as it was hanging in by the bolts. My only strategy was to destroy its electronics.

“How’d you like that? You dumb robot.” I said out loud.

I knew it wasn’t tough to destroy, but I had to push myself pretty hard to destroy its every part. Hitting bare metal can cause a lot of pain to the human body. Glad that I used to train myself to the death.

I grabbed an axe which was hanging on the wall. It can make things pretty easy if I use it smartly. “Hehe, choose the wrong shop to rob.” It was a hardware store.

Soya wasn’t having a tough time either. She was able to evade the robot’s moves pretty easily. She was pretty tough when it came to brute strength. Doing swift manoeuvres and deceiving her enemy was one of her strengths.

“Come at me again, you fool!” As I said that, the robot came rushing at me. Huh, here goes nothing, I said to myself. It tried punching me in the chest, but I used its momentum and grabbed the left arm with my left, turning anti-clockwise. I managed to grab it by the head and smack it to the ground. That may have destroyed some of its sensors, but it still managed to get up quickly without functioning weirdly. This is gonna be entertaining, I thought.

Xiba, Soya and Edra were fighting a foe which doesn’t feel anything, and when fighting an enemy like that, you need to be more careful. No matter how much damage you do, they still fight till the end, to a point where they can’t function anymore.

They all fought, tried various tricks and managed to get an upper hand on the robots. In exchange, they also got a bit of a beating, but it wasn’t bad enough to stop them from winning. The robots were down, and Xiba, Edra, and Soya thought the fight was over. To their surprise, there was one more major threat they had to deal with.

Hah! It’s finally over, I thought as I punched the robot the last time before it fell. I hope Xiba and Soya are holding well too. I moved outside the shop and saw Soya and Xiba standing on the sidewalk. “Hey!” I was breathing heavily. “You managed to beat em as well, hah?” I said as I grew closer.

“Yeah, it wasn’t that big of a deal, I am still shocked and don’t know why they would attack innocent people,” Soya said as she eyed me. She wasn’t bruised at all. Xiba, on the other hand, seemed a bit beaten up.

“Those weren’t much of a threat. I already knew ways to overcome their brute force.” Xiba looked at me and smirked as she raised her hand with a thumbs-up sign. I did the same and thought it was over, only to find out later that it wasn’t. We heard some metal screeching from behind where we were standing. The sound got louder so we went to inspect it, we found something weird. The three robots were merged like a Megazord. It wasn't something we would’ve expected.

“What the fuc-” Xiba said in surprise.

“I am not gonna assume I know what’s going on here, so what in hell is going on here?” Soya uttered. It looked like we had gotten another round to fight the final boss. I glanced toward Xiba; she was also looking at me. We both knew we had to work together to beat him. It came rushing toward us. Soya being overconfident, tried fighting it alone. But she immediately found out who had the edgy over here. It managed to dodge and kick her at the same time. Even after merging, it didn’t add an extra limb to itself, instead, it got some sort of weapons added into it now. The robots merged together were now faster compared to their old selves.

Soya was on the ground holding her abdomen, she wasn’t ready for it. “You should’ve considered working together instead of rushing all by yourself,” Xiba added to the wound.

“Tch! Yea-Yeah, it’s gonna help me now, right?!” Soya responded, clenching her fists.

Looking in the direction of Xiba, I sighed. “Okay, no need to be bitter.” I insisted, “We should work together and finish it off.”

“Yeap, I agree,” Xiba replied. Xiba looks at Soya and chimes, “Watch how it’s done now.”

Xiba and I were not just running around these couple of months as we were trying to figure out our ways to defeat Shin. We were also training together, and I became quite a decent fighter sparring with Xiba. We did most of our training when I didn’t have these powers. But we still got moves to help change the outcome of our battle here.

I looked over at Xiba and blinked my eyes slowly. She understood my signal, and we both ran toward the robot. She had an axe in her hands which she threw at the robot as she was running, the robot managed to grab it by the handle. Xiba had already gotten closer to it, she grabbed the axe handle and pushed it toward its head. To force it, she jumped above the robot, still keeping a firm grip on the handle and managed to land on its shoulder. The robot used his other hand to grab Xiba’s neck. If it continued, it could break her neck as easy as breaking a dry stick. Before the robot could make any moves, I slid toward it and struck its shin. It lost its balance and made it fall. I could see the robot and Xiba above me in mid-air. Xiba was still holding the handle of the axe with everything she had gotten. It fell with a rustled bang to the ground. Because of the momentum, the axe managed to break its head off.

It was clean and well-cooperated teamwork. Xiba was coughing as the robot was still holding her neck, I got up quickly and used the axe to break the arm. It lost the pressure and Xiba’s neck was free. She was gasping, I held her head and asked, “Are you okay?” She tried controlling her breaths and answered, “Yeah, I am… fine.” We both smiled at each other and got up, the thing was still moving but not so steadily.

“Most of its major components are present in the head. It shouldn’t be difficult to destroy it now.” Xiba said with a slight grin. She took the axe from my hand and hit the robot’s body continuously until it was torn into pieces. “That’s what you get for being reincarnating again!!!” She yelled with an angry expression.

I looked at Xiba and reassured her. “I think it’s done for, Xiba. We should leave now.”

Xiba, Soya and I left the place as soon as we could. No one seemed to have informed the police about the incident, it felt strange. As we left the place we encountered someone outside the area where the incident took place. A man in a black suit asked us about the incident. We just notified him that it was something weird, and he should not go in there without notifying the police first.

“Ahh, thank you so much.” Said the man. He sounded like he was in his late fifties. At that time we didn’t put much thought into it and left the town. We thought that they were targeting us, and being open in a place like this can be dangerous for us.

We jumped from town to town in the last few weeks and never contacted anyone using our watches. It wasn’t easy keeping a low profile this whole time, we were waiting for a perfect opportunity with Shin. He remained in The Hope’s headquarters most of the time. Soya and Arren gave us information about his schedule. He wasn’t leaving the facility most of the days, it seemed like he was practically living in the headquarters.

Xiba and I were now residing in a southern part of Jahan, a small city named Amal. According to the history of The Hope, it was founded in this city. A man named Desmond Mystof founded it about a hundred years ago. It also stated that he started this organization to help advance in sciences and those who were in desperate need of medical care. It seemed the org came a long way since then and found cures for many known diseases. The only issue was that it wasn’t operating how it was originally supposed to be. After being successful in advanced medicines, it grabbed the eye of the government and got funded some budget of the state each year to help it progress further.

With all that money flowing in, I am pretty sure it didn’t take much time until future generations became corrupt. They started using the money and authority in the wrong way. Many people tried exposing them, but most people who tried that were never found again and no one talked about them, they were thought to be just rumours and tales spread by the opposing side of the population.

Most people abided by the rules and never tried to interfere with the government or its associates. Some rebels denied going by the books and were working underground to help expose various truths about Jahan, which were never revealed to the public. Soya introduced us to someone who showed a new world, a tribe of people living only to see the day when the general public will hear the truth. Realities even I was unaware of.
