Chapter 2:

Chapter 01

I entered the adventurers guild in Avalon with newfound confidence, and while walking towards the counter I noticed what seemed to be two ultra high-tier adventurers. The two of them scoffed at me as they eyed the staff I was holding in my hand, indicating that its worth was out of my league. One of the other adventurers/Another stranger was entranced by the orb at the top/tip (of the staff) cradled by rare wood(work).

The orb has roaring flames inside it that are near impossible to subdue. My father gave me this as a gift one day, he had told me that the rarity of this staff had almost no equal. He had snatched/seized it after disposing of a very talented magician in a land far off from where I am currently.

It occured to me that the adventurer probably knew about the powers of the staff, as to confirm my suspicions I decided to greet them.

“Greetings, my name is Shinth Suddoh. It is a pleasure to meet you.”

The adventurer stared at my hand for a second before immediately moving his eyes back onto the staff.

“Yeah, yeah, hello. How did you get that staff?”

In my head I immediately gave out a sigh due to his ignorance. I did not want to answer him, in fact I had to hold back everything within me to not crush his friends’ skull right in front of him. However his reply confirmed my suspicions. I had tried to think of ways to get rid of him, a million thoughts went/had gone through my head. Every single solution I had come up would’ve involved a lot of pain for him.

The last thing I wanted to do was resort to harm and suffering. I came back to the upper world so I could avoid that/The entire point of my coming to the surface/upper world was to avoid that. With every ounce of restraint I came to the conclusion that if I were to shoo him away he would most likely stop bugging me. There is no reason a mere object should attract his attention more than it has now.

“I reserve the right to not answer that question. I must be going anyway, perhaps we will meet at a later time?”

“If that’s what I think it is then I suggest you make the time to tell me.”

I sighed in front of them and put my head down. I had hoped that I would not have to extrapolate on the staff. He was obviously abusing his power as a higher status to intimidate me. The fool has no idea how close to death he is.

I started to stare at him and I could see the sweat dripping off his face. His demeanor was completely different from when he had first looked at me. Countless thoughts raced in my head as to what I could do to him. A lightbulb went off in my head and then I realized what the best course of action would be.

My eyes grew red for but a second as I performed hypnosis. Quite a complicated spell for a mortal, yet it is nothing for me.

“Let’s start over. Greetings, My name is Shinth Suddoh, it is a pleasure to meet you.”

“Forgive my rudeness, I am Gorn Abel Fulz Grand. This is my friend, Vic.”

I shook both of their hands and strolled toward the guild desk, happy with having shown restraint.

Ignoring their continued stares, I noticed a woman with beauty wearing a blazer and a skirt that matched. I had become jealous of human affection ever since I had my epiphany, and seeing her only made it worse. I realize that I could take her at any time but I also realize that it would go against ethical reasoning.

“Sir. How may I help you?”

“I would like to register with the guild as an adventurer. ”

“That’s fine. I just need you to fill out some paperwork. However there are a few questions I must ask first.”

“Go right ahead.”

“Well, first I’m assuming that you’re joining as a single adventurer instead of a party. It’s fine, but you’ll just have to submit different paperwork later on once you get new members. Or if you decide to join someone else’s party.”

As I was about to confirm myself as a single party member three different adventurers ran up to me in succession, while the leader slammed his hand onto the front desk.

“Be- before you apply as an adventurer m- my comrades and I would like to talk to you. I couldn’t help but overhear that you were contemplating on registering as a single adventurer!” He said nervously.

I sighed yet again, realizing that the towering man in front of me was trying to hold in his true emotions. He was very muscular and carried a large broad sword on his back while wearing minimal leather armor.

He was obviously of the beast-man race. In my mind I forgave him for his abrupt rudeness, I realized it was just in his nature. I attempt to wave him off,

“I can only guess what it would be that you wanted to talk to me about. You want me to aide you as party member correct?”

“well , let’s not jump to conclusions. How about we talk about this over drinks, I’ll buy you a few.”

I thought about his offer for but a moment.

“Sure, after I get done registering with the guild I’ll take you up on your offer.”

“Ho- hold on, hold on! You don’t want to do that now. I….I have something that you may be interested in actually.”

“May I ask what that is? No, you aren’t going to tell me unless I go with you right now correct?”

The beast-man nodded his head then extended his hand for a greeting.

“The names Borgoth, what is yours?”

“Shinth Suddoh, pleasure to meet you Borgoth, and your friends?”

There were two party members that stood beside him, one was what looked to be an anthropomorphic lizard while the other was a normal human that had religious symbols showing that he was a cleric. The anthropomorphic lizard was holding a knife in a sheath, he also had some pretty high level enchanted arrows on his back.

After evaluating the three man party I had come to the conclusion that they were mostly harmless.

“Ah, this is my lizard friend Gordoh. And this is Fernir.”

I shook both of their hands while maintaining eye contact with the lizard. I didn’t intend for it to be menacing, but I could hear him gulp in nervousness. I accepted his offer and we made our way to the bar that was naturally right beside the guild. He ordered me two of the “best drinks in the house” He had called it. After taking a few sips I had realized why it had it’s status.

“So, The thing that I wanted you to look at, well actually…”

“Before we get into that may I examine Gordoh’s archery equipment?”

“Ah, of course, Gordoh hand him your arrows.”

“Where would the bow be?”

“Aha. Funny you should mention that, it actually broke from the last quest we took. Too many undead gathered near him. Popping out of the ground and what not, we thought he was safe, it turned out he wasn’t. We’re looking around certain shops to buy one.”

I started to look at Gordoh and noticed multiple scars on his scales, from the undead no doubt as they seemed new.

“I see, So what led you to the guild?”

“It was just a rendevouz so we could go over the different stores that around here.”

I knew he was lying, and it did not take my intuition to realize it. Anyone with partial intelligence could tell that he was either holding back information, or that he was lying about why he was at the guild. In order to probe further I had questions that I had intended to ask him, however The cleric cut me off before I could think of a suitable response.

“This is what we wanted you to see.”

It seems that the cleric had no intention to continue the farse any longer. He could most likely tell I was seeing through the beast-man’s stuttering and foolishness.

“Well, cleric, I see that you would like to get right to the poi…..”

Before I could finish my sentence he thrust out his hand showing a chest that was decorated with a rare golden metal. I couldn’t believe it, the chest itself was enchanted with magic on par with my fathers. My eyes narrowed to the chest with great avarice. How could I have not known about this, furthermore what is this object? My mind immediately went to self defense mode as I jerked my head up to stare at the fearful cleric with my glance, I instantly tried to use hypnosis to interrogate him, but it didn’t work. ‘Impossible’ I thought, my magic should work against all mortals.

I grew more and more curious as time went by before the cleric responded to my reaction after being shown the chest.

“You see, we can’t get it open. I was wondering if you could appraise it or at the very least tell us what kind of magic surrounds this chest, We were hoping to catch you before you had started the paperwork, I’m glad we were able to get you beforehand.

These fools do not recognize the power that they wield. It could destroy or save the world depending on how they use it. But these ignorant mortals have such small brains that they can discern this type of magic when they see it. Of course none of them are magicians, so maybe I am being too hard on them.

But one thing is clear, I will find out everything about the chest.
