Chapter 38:

Yuusha's Journey Account5

MaoTensei:Atrocity Reboot!

Leaving the Shrine + Day 1676

This year, I finally got hold of the Holy Sword. The last task I had to complete before heading into the Demon Territory.

Just to get this one piece of metal, countless people died.

Should I call them sacrifices? No that wouldn't be right.

I'm sure the conniving witch and the pissed assassin didn't want to die. Calling them sacrifices would be like eating meat and saying that animals committed suicide for that one meal.

These people just wanted to do their job and play their part.

But they died anyway.

I couldn't blame the other side either. They were the ones defending their national artefact and we were the ones trying to steal it.

War sure was cruel. Especially when no one knew why it started in the first place. We just know that it did last year out of nowhere.

Anyhow... today was the last day before we dawn upon the last leg of the journey. We all separated on our own ways to enjoy this day in our leisure.

I had something in mind though.

After seeing so much death, I started to loathe the idea of dying. And recently there have been talks of a reincarnation item in a shady auction in the Black Market.

###

"Welcome, Yuusha-sama!" A lean butler-like man opened the door to a theatre. I nodded.

"I'll be going up to the VIP section."

"Of course!"

The crowd parted and I was already up on the VIP seat looking at the stage where the event would take place.

Them being conscious of me or revering me didn't feel rewarding anymore. I was burdened with expectations for my future and guilt for all the lives I couldn't save.

I was numb.

And at the auction looking for that one spell card.

I highly doubted the existence of such an item and for the most part, thought that even if it did exist, it was probably a hoax.

The last item was the infamous spell card to reincarnation.

A wave of murmurs went around to hall.

Of course, there was no way to prove that it would actually reincarnate you and the only way the auction staff sold the crowd on the authenticity was by showing us more items by the same supplier, KingPin.

Still, no one dared to buy an item that required you to die to be of any use. Anyone but me.

I had a fortune, and no family or loved one to spend it on. Add to that the fact that I was heading into what might be my grave. I had no reason to save my money. So I took my chances.

My sign went up.

I ended up buying the spell card for a small fraction of my wealth.

I used the remaining money for supplies and the rest I donated to an orphanage.

That was the end of my preparations... Tomorrow would come to bring a new journey.
