Chapter 18:

End of the dawn

Memory 262

The final blow was enough to disable the robot, I split it in two. Xiba and Soya were shocked to witness that, but I was shocked at my own strength as well. “What’s going to happen next,” is all I was thinking.

I didn’t want to forget any major memory, but I was starting to lose consciousness. Xiba noticed it and came forth to check on me. My arm was turning back to normal, and I started feeling a painful surge through my body. I was quivering because of the pain, and Xiba was trying to communicate with me but I wasn’t able to respond. I gathered whatever energy I had left, and I tried pointing my hand at Xiba as she was close to me. Watching me do that, she gently held my hands and tried comforting me.

“Are you okay, Edra?” Xiba asked.

“I-I don’t,” I was whispering. Noticing that, Xiba leaned forward closer to my face.

“Yes, what is it,” asked Xiba.

“I-I don’t wanna forget,” I uttered.

Xiba looked glum after hearing me say that. I was coming back to my senses, and it seemed like I wasn’t going to black out this time.

“I am going to be fine Xiba, don’t worry,” I Looked at Xiba and smiled softly. It was enough to ease up the tense atmosphere. I was progressing as this was the first time I didn’t black out after a transformation.

“Hey you two, we can’t remain here and do nothing. Gravast and Aja didn’t show up as well, I think they are still fighting, and if they are, we should join them.” Soya was right, we didn’t have enough time to waste, and Dan could launch another attack anytime randomly.

“She’s correct, we should move now,” I responded. Xiba seemed concerned about my health.

“Are you in shape to fight another opponent?” Xiba questioned.

I clenched my fists and said, “Yes I am.”

After my confirmation, we went to the location where Gravast and Aja were fighting the robots, they were delivering their last blows. It seemed like they didn’t need any kind of assistance. They were working like a perfect team, handling every move of the bots skillfully without missing any hit.

“Here I come!!!” Gravast was screaming as he jumped for his final hit. A lively guy indeed, I thought.

Both Aja and Gravast managed to finish every robot with minor injuries. We met and shared our part of the story.

“I hope you are doing now Edra; we need you and you know that,” said Aja after hearing what happened to me during our fight with the robots. Gravast had a similar reaction as well.

“Yeah, I am doing fine for now and I believe I can carry on without any break,” I replied.

We still had no clue what could’ve happened next and whom we were going to fight. We were clueless but it was time to run before anything could go wrong.

As we were leaving the area we got surrounded by police, even though we had no hand in the deployment of the robots. There were police everywhere, it was impossible to hide from them and escape without getting caught.

“You want to find an exit?” We heard someone speak through a megaphone.

“Sadly, you can’t, it’s the end.”

There was a barricade near the area which we were trying to cross, the noise was coming from one of the Police cars. We knew they were just trying to catch us, so we paid little to no attention to them and started finding other routes.

As we turned, the guy on the megaphone, announced again, “No need to run now, Edra.”

We all froze for a bit, we knew it was someone we had already known, he knew who we were. We turned around and saw him standing beside a police car. It is him, I said to myself.

Soya seemed more agitated toward him and launched an attack on him. We tried stopping Soya, but she was fast and didn't listen to us.

“Stop it, Soya! He may have some kind of weapon on him!” Yelled Xiba.

Soya went ahead and tried kicking Dan in the face but he dodged it easily and revealed a blade he was hiding behind his back, he used it against Soya whom he just evaded and attacked her from the back. He was fast and Soya was unable to block it, her right arm was sliced and split into two. “Ahh, you’ll regret it!” Said Soya right after that and she looked over me.

Before we could reach her, he decapitated her, “We will see,” he whispered.

“Soya!!!” Xiba was shocked to witness her death right before her eyes.

Gravast got angry and went ahead to fight Dan, Aja was in shock as well and couldn’t stop him.

“I will show you bastaaarrdd!!! You are dead now!” Screamed Gravast as he was marching toward him.

Xiba and I were overwhelmed by the things happening at a very crucial moment. I wasn’t reacting much.

When Gravast reached closer to Dan, he used his secret technique to encounter him. He changed his stance and stood low with his fists open and facing vertically towards his opponent.

“Do you really think some ancient technique can be reliable enough to beat me?” Pronounced Dan.

Gravast didn’t reply to any word or provocation. He was standing silently, taking deep breaths and determined to kill Dan.

“Huh,” Dan glowered at Gravast. “let’s do this then.”

Dan made the first move and attacked Gravast using his blade but Gravast easily evaded him and smacked his neck with his hands. Dan was coughing as he fell back. Watching that made me feel that we had a chance against Dan but soon the tides changed.

Dan became angry and used some advanced sword techniques which were overwhelming even for Gravast. After witnessing that Aja jumped into the fight and tried to save Gravast. Gravast was getting injured the longer he fought against Dan.

Dan smirked, he was going to deliver his final hit, which could’ve been fatal, but Aja jumped in front of him and took the hit to himself to save Gravast. Watching Aja lose his senses after that hit in front of his eyes, Gravast became even more furious, and kicked Dan in the face and sent him flying into the air.

“You can’t stay laying down! Get up, Aja?” Gravast was still in disbelief, he never thought he would lose an essential member of his team so easily. He held Aja in his arms as he was taking his final breaths.

Xiba and I came rushing towards Gravast and Aja, “I-I guess, I… I will- I will join them now. I am glad I-I die-died for a good cause, hm.” Aja was smiling. “Thanks, my friend for helping me go throu- through this, I am grateful to you all…” Aja took his final breath and left us with a smile on his face, he was sad but still happy to leave this sad reality he was living in after his family. On the other hand, I was trying to contemplate what was happening around us. who is the other person that will die today, I thought.

I vowed to kill Dan as painfully as possible on Aja’s death. There is no fuel better than pure anger and despair.

Gravast shed a tear, and Xiba was tearing up as well. We had no other choice but to give up for now. We had to stay alive in order to make our efforts come through. Dan was coming at us but we rose our hands to surrender.

“I think we know; we can’t win against you. We surrender and we don’t want to fight you anymore,” I uttered. Gravast and Xiba were gloomy and didn’t say any word followed my plan.

“Ha! Pretty smart, I knew you could understand me and my intentions from the get-go. Those idiots, tch-tch-tch-tch, wasted their lives to prove a point,” he sighed. “Oh well, it’s better to be late than never. I am putting on han0dcuffs on you now but remember, try anything weird, and I will kill you with one shot. I hope that is clear.”

He went on and on, blabbering about his greatness but I was paying attention to none of his antics. I had one goal which needed to be executed even if it meant my death, which to me, means nothing now.

“I am transferring you all to cells now, but don’t worry we will keep you two, pointing at Xiba and me, under one cell for now. You two are good subjects and I would need your testimony.

We were transferred to a big building, it was one of Hope’s experiment areas. There was no sign of other people getting experimented upon, nor could I find anything unusual about this place. It was near the city's capital.

Xiba and I were kept in the same room as Dan mentioned before, but we were more concerned about Gravast and what he meant by testimony.

Xiba and me alone in this room feeling the same feeling of grief and sorrow, determined to do anything to take our revenge.

“I never asked you Xiba but, who was Soya to you?” I had nothing on my mind at that time, so I tried asking her.

“Soya? She was… She was my sister,” revealed Xiba.

“Wait, she is- She was your sister?!” I was shocked to know this; she did tell me about her past before but I don’t remember her mentioning a sister.

“Yeah, I never did tell you about her, we were both orphans. I don’t know if we ever were blood-related or not, she was with me since I could remember, she was like a younger sister to me. Once when we were trying to steal food, we got caught and the police got her. She probably didn’t remember that; she was just three at that time. Being much younger than me, I thought they might go easy on her. So, I escaped without her. I used to call her droplet because she was small and always fell whenever she used to run. Her face did change over the years, but I still manage to recognize her the day I saw her at a meeting with the Bio-switch. Even though we had a relationship of a frenemy, I still was happy with what had happened. Now she is gone, and I can’t forgive myself for not protecting her this time as well.” Xiba was in tears, she never had any ill intentions for her and just wanted this mess to end, but guess we can’t certain things.

“Sorry, I know you must be feeling pretty bad and might be regretting your decisions, but we need to get a hold of ourselves and try not to end up as Soya did. I promise you that Dan will pay for everything he has done wrong.” I don’t care if I die in the process. I reassured Xiba and tried comforting her. I moved closer to her and hugged her.

“Thanks for being with me through all this, if it wasn’t for you, I had been dead a long ago. Even if we lost someone today because of someone else, you were the one who saved me, you saved a life. I am pretty sure if she knew what you were going through, she would’ve adored and appreciated you more than anyone. It’s not easy to let go of the only hope you have left; you are the strongest person I know Xiba and I want you to know that.” I expressed everything I had in me to her, those were my true emotions.

Xiba hugged me even more tightly and cried, I was waiting for her to release her emotions, it must’ve been tough to carry a façade this whole time. After all, she was all alone in this mess.

“There is something I wanted to tell you Edra.” Said Xiba.

“what is it?”

“Your parents, there wasn’t any accident; They were killed by the Hope.”

“I was the one taske-”

“You don’t have to Xiba, I don’t have anything to do with the past now. I just want to get out of this mess and maybe die peacefully. I want to let you know that changes nothing about you, you are still my saviour and I want to remember you no matter what.” I soothed her.

Let’s see what Dan has to offer cuz now I know, what I am going to do.
