Chapter 12:

Afterword

With Oasis (Vol. 1)

In the modern day, we have the internet, and therein all the knowledge and entertainment that you could ever possibly want. Yet, paradoxically, with so much out there to occupy our time, it's become easier than ever to discard it all and say “this is all boring, it all sucks, none of it intrigues me”. I guess some people would consider boredom to be a good emotion, as it’s your body’s way of telling you to find something more productive and intellectually stimulating to do with your time than what you’re currently doing— but if you’re bored all the time, no matter the activity, I can’t help but feel like that’s its own sort of nightmare. In essence, if nothing pleases you enough for you to no longer be bored by it, isn’t that a depression of sorts? Boredom kills if you kill time dead bored. At least, that’s what I’ve been thinking lately.

And with that, I hope you enjoyed With Oasis Volume 1! I’ve always wanted to write a book to a close enough approximation to ‘completion’ that I can give it an afterword like this. Although I’m the type that worries constantly about whether or not what I wrote is any good, so perhaps this story has no end, at least in my anxiously pitter-pattering heart.

Well, depressing subjects aside, I’d like to thank a few people. First, Vlusky, for giving this book the kind of cover that I smiled over for like a day straight. Second, to the dudes at Honeyfeed who hosted the contest that I’m submitting this book to. And third, to anyone who read even a tiny bit of this book, even if you got bored halfway through the prologue and dropped off. Thank you!
