Chapter 20:

Boosted swirl

Who Needs Enemies?

The dead embarrassment consuming me for days only seems to get worse. I don’t know if I’m hallucinating, I’m not sure if it is another one of my lunatic dreams, but the images of what happened that night we’re stuck inside my head, engraved into every bit of my skin she touched. Why are the memories so perfectly clear? And for the Gods sake... How do I take her out of my head?

We haven't been talking for weeks ever since what happened, which means I had to resort to the dream Hiro, again. I didn't want to keep living this lie, but even if everything seems confusing to me, it seems that for the first time, at least one thing was very certain in my heart.

What a shame, she won't even look at my face anymore.

Every time I pass by her side, my entire body burns red... But I don't have to worry so much when I'm married to her.

"Look, look, this scene is really good." Hiro point's at the tv very excited as Miori, Bunny and Kouga watched extremely attentively. We we're all sharing a big sofa.

"Coccyx." Mr. bones said.

All of us start laughing uncontrollably.

"It's way too good, I swear." Bunny says giggling. "The main character is literally me."

Kouga wouldn't stop clapping.

I bring Hiro closer to me, hugging her very tightly and then filling her cheeks in kisses. Every time I do this, it hurts that it isn't real. But I take every chance to do it now, so I'm used to how bad it feels.

I miss my job at the guard, I can't help but to go out in the night, praying I'll hear a scream or a flare, so I can see some action. I get to the abandoned village a giant beholder has been reported, but to my surprise, there's nothing in there, nothing but the fleeting Hiro.

"Wow, I wonder what happened to that beholder..." I say scratching my head.

She looks back, tired. I lift my arm, waving slightly.

She nods with her head.

I can't believe this is all the interaction we've had in the past month, but I'm glad it's good.

"Ooh, I wonder what you two are doing here." Bunny arrives. I haven't seen her face or her annoying giggle in so long, and I'd rather keep it this way. "So you two really are working together..."

"Actually, not really." I chuckle. "I was follow--" I look at her face, I see in her despair that if I tell them exactly how it happened, she's the only one getting in trouble. "...It's true, actually. You've... Uncovered our master secret plan!" I say pretending to be scared, but hoping it doesn't just make us two get in even more trouble.

I look over at Hiro to see if she's good, she's deep breathing and I'm afraid I messed up.

"Okay, that only means I'm going to have to beat you two up... I was already planning on doing that."

I open my eyes wide as Bunny says that, right after, I look at Hiro, acting as one: we nod to each other forming an instant alliance, and prepare for the worst, letting Bunny come to us instead of us going at her.

She walks calmly towards us, cracking her knuckles and suddenly disappearing out of our sight, we touch backs looking around. Bunny's laughter is everything I did not want to hear, but it comes, and the same darkness from every fight fills every corner of our vision. One punch comes from my right hits right into my stomach, I try to stab in the same direction, failing. Another one comes from the left and lands on my chin, I fail to react. Hiro hears my grunts and from over my shoulder begins to shoot in every direction that previously came a punch of mine. Nothing is working, they continue coming, hitting me again and again, and then hitting Hiro again and again.

"Duck." I order Hiro desperately and she complies. I begin to swirl the sword, trying to keep her away. Unexpectedly, Hiro begins to shoot various shoots towards my sword, the swirling blade sends them in random directions, hitting anything and everything. Eventually we hear a grunt and we both stop, looking in the direction instantly, stopping our attacks.

"We found you."  We say synchronized and rushing towards the sound, with a couple of steps we reach her, her eyes jumping, a deliciously surprised expression on her face. Hiro and I maliciously laugh as we try to hit her with everything we have, I attack from above with a swing, she blocks it, leaving her exposed from below.

Hiro boosts her kick, kicking Bunny on the legs, making her fall, we are too excited about this. She spins on the ground, dodging all of our attacks before getting up a couple of feet away from us, I throw my sword with everything I have in her direction, she is surprised and manages to grab the tip of the blade, stopping it and being pushed behind.

Bunny sighs out of relief, but when she opens her mouth to talk, she sees Hiro on my arm just before I launch her towards Bunny, Hiro boosting her kick once again and reaching Bunny much faster than my sword could, landing a kick right into her face, she flies behind, breaking two trees in her path before stopping and coughing from the impact,

As I reach my sword and Hiro, I grab the blade. Me and Hiro smug to each other as we have finally did it, and look in the direction of Bunny to deal with her. Only to see a grayish figure dashing through the forest and immediately reaching Bunny, to her aid, it's Kouga.

"H-how... Did you get here so fast?" Bunny says coughing and catching her breath as she smiles from seeing Kouga.

"Worry not my dear, I am here to your aid." A soft but soothing voice comes from Kouga, me and Hiro did not expect such a voice, neither hearing it firsthand now.

"These fiends bring nothing but unfortune, we shall unite to fight them." Kouga says turning to face us.

"Fiends?" I say confused and quite offended, we stop, letting them talk it over and decide how this goes.

She looks at Kouga from head to toe.

"No. Of course not." Answers Bunny, instantly storming out of the area.

We both stare at Kouga. He looks at us back.

"Fancy lizard on a stick for dinner?" I smirk at Hiro

He instantly runs away as fast as his little legs can take him.

Hiro and I look into each other's eyes, and we start laughing victoriously after such a fight.

"This was AMAZING, did you see how you good were your shots?"

"My shots? YOU SWIRLED A GIANT SWORD! AND THREW IT SO FAR, and perfect aim, if I may say."

"And threw you too, you got a flying kick and a headshot on the same attack."

"You were incredible." We both say at the same time looking at each other with a big smile, so excited from the successful fight.

I stare into her eyes, not laughing for a short moment, thinking of all the things that made us finally be able to talk like this, but lose all our confidence to face each other.

"I... I see you later?" I say, extremely red, wondering if I still have a chance with her.

"Hum... Yes? We'll see each other later, right?" She says, smiling to me, her cheeks clearly red. My stomach felt empty, filled with butterflies, until she answered me. I sigh relieved.
