Chapter 2:

The Gatekeeper

The Sons of Crow

Chapter 2

The Gatekeeper

The crow was thrown away by the mystical lightning strike of one of the creatures just spoken of. Panicked, Rion approached the crow. Luckily, the crow didn't die, the bird was just a black spirit, what can you do with it so it won't be destroyed except for one thing.

"You’re okay, Mom?" Rion tried to calm the crow who turned herself into a puff of black smoke.

"I was just shocked by the sudden lightning strike."

Rion snorted. He took a deep breath, slightly angry. He didn't want to lose any of his family once again. Yet. Someday for sure, but he's not asking for it now. Even though Rion himself knows that his ‘mother’ is actually not the full form of a mother.

Sensing Rion's concern, the crow reassured the child.

"It's okay. Take it easy. I am the strongest here than you."

Rion flashed a mocking smile.

“Fine. I will use all my strength!”

Moving from their respective places, the fae creatures appear.

Leader of the pixies.

Their sharp ears could be seen from behind the shadow of the dark night. Rion prepared with his fighting stance while clenching his hands together. He walked over to the silhouette that was still standing behind the black shadow. It doesn't matter what will attack him. Rion is sure that his mother is always there for him.

“Come out! Get over this by any means!”

The crow suddenly remembered that one person was still standing behind.

“Go away, lady! It's not safe for you here."

The woman did not turn away. She does not carelessly obey anyone's orders.

"I don't know what else you're dealing with right now," said a person from behind her earpiece, "but I agree with someone telling you to get out of there."

Then, eventually, the woman nodded to whoever told her to better leave. At least, the job was done.

Just as she was about to jump into the window that had been shattered by Rion's, suddenly the form that had been silent from behind the darkness shot up.

“Shit!”

“Shit!”

Rion and the crow cursed jointly. At the same time followed the figure as fleeting as that flew.

The fae glared at 16 who at that moment spontaneously felt the presence of something behind her back. They looked at each other intently. Their eyes bulged. The eyes that fae have are quite strange for humans.

Their elongated eyes seemed to threaten the life of a human who did not know what was really going on. Or even what would happen to her.

With high speed, Rion sped up quickly pushing one of his feet. He stretched out his left hand then a vermilion light flashed from his palm. The more he opened his hand, the fiery flame smoldered in his palm.

"Don't you dare to fight against someone who is no match for you!" Rion exclaimed.

He threw the smoldering fire at the fae.

"Rion! That woman is still there! Don't be reckless!” the crow shouted.

Rion turned to look for the presence of the woman in the suit. Although, he realized that the fae had already been hit by the fire. And the woman's silhouette seems to have swiftly managed to escape from the raging heat of the fire.

"Relax, Mom, the woman has managed to escape," Rion replied.

The fae is on fire.

"Goodness, we certainly don't have to worry about her," said the crow.

But, it turns out that the fae is not completely burned.

"That woman is kinda hitman-" Before he finished his sentence, from behind his back, the fae slipped through the smoke with their form back intact.

"Look out, Rion!" the crow yells out.

The fae took out those sharp, brilliant white nails. One of their nails shot at Rion's chest.

Not having time to see what was happening, the crow's vision was clouded by the smog generated by the remnants of an inferno.

"No, Rion!" the crow flapped her wings. She flew through the blazing haze of smoke.

The gatekeeper smacked Juno with his fists. There was no gap for Juno to fight the gatekeeper. Why couldn't Juno fight him? Was his strength lower than his little brother whose strength only involved flames?

Whack!

The blow hit the abdomen. Juno winced in pain. Blood began pouring out from between his teeth.

"Still persist?" the gatekeeper asked flatly.

Juno looked down and sat on his knees.

Blood dripped incessantly for the sake of protecting his little brother.

Quiet.

The gatekeeper glared impatiently. Juno just stayed silent.

"Are you dead?"

Juno was still unmoved.

"You're really weak, aren't you? From the very beginning, we started fighting, you could see the look on your face when you saw me."

The gatekeeper's veins contorted like worms. His muscles suddenly swelled up. His skin turned pale white. Thick green liquid oozes out of his skin.

Juno finally woke up. But he couldn't move. It's time for him to give up his will to fight. He better accepted defeat.

"Ah, I'm hungry."

"Huh?"

The gatekeeper wondered with Juno's words. His veins were still twitching from beneath his skin.

“I was weak because I was hungry.”

"I don't care!"

Juno, who hadn't spoken or fought the gatekeeper for a while, suddenly said he was hungry. The gatekeeper started his action again in full force. He clenched his fists until his muscles expanded in an attempt to finish off his opponent.

A heavy blow landed right on Juno's whole body. He bounced so far that he rolled and fell violently against the ground. Juno did not force his body to get up. Because he was hungry. How do you feel when you are hungry? Of course lazy to take care of stupid things.

Juno closes his eyes. The gatekeeper was getting fed up with this behavior. He thought it was a waste of his time.

"Juno!"

The owner of the name's eyes opened.

"Give me 2 minutes to give you strength."

Juno ignored that request. He shut his eyes again.

"I'm just hungry, Mom."

"Your brother is wretched!"

Juno realized that he loved his poor little brother very much. His eyes twitched realizing that his black eyes had turned luminous citrine. The light that was given off from those golden eyes restored his strength. The feeling of hunger is not felt at all.

"Yes, Mom. I will fight against this disgusting brute.”

"Thanks, Juno. I'll take care of your brother. When you’re done, please help both of us."

Jun rose. All the wounds were directly closed without leaving any residue.

“Do heroes have to be like this? I don't feel like a hero. But, do I have to win?"

The gatekeeper paused. Not having time to turn around to look behind him, Juno threw a long, shiny iron blade that stabbed right into the middle of the gatekeeper's head.

"At least, we both have fulfilled the task mother gave us." Juno rolled up his denim jacket sleeves.
