Chapter 3:

The Self-Proclaimed Hero Jonah

Menards Clash

The chilling air in Tokyo made Jonah slightly shiver. He quickly looked around to admire the the thousands of lights surrounding him, causing them seem as if they were dancing.

The much needed break from the Menards High School Tournament was nice, but an emerging boredom started to annoy him. It was for this reason precisely, Jonah decided to skip practice and check out the city.

The people crowding the streets talked about their Christmas plans, their smiles glistening with the seasonal spirit.

Jonah: "Geez, it's that time of the year already? It always seems to come by faster every year."

Jonah sighed in disappointment as he slowly looked in his frog shaped wallet, which was completely deflated. A very skinny frog for sure! "Unhealthy! Gimme somethin' to eat!" Was what Jonah imagined it would say to him right now if it could speak.

Jonah: "Guess I'm gonna have to disappoint Granny again this year."

Jonah said hopelessly as he looked down on the sidewalk. Anyone walking by could obviously tell that he was down on his luck, his gloomy demeanor sticking out in the crowd of holiday cheer.

A hand suddenly grabbed Jonah's shoulder with a terrifying firmness. His eyes widened and he swiftly jumped back into a normal stance, bringing some much needed distance in the process.

Jonah's face had a confused look all over it and all he could really do was let out a shocked

Jonah: "Eh.....??"

Stranger: "Sorry to startle you like that! I just noticed that you looked pretty sad or rather, pretty hopeless, how doe-"

Jonah: "Sorry, not interested in whatever you're selling~"

Jonah's shocked expression was now a deadpan one, and he was already walking away before the stranger could even finish his sentence.

Stranger: "Hold up! I know a way you can make some big bucks!"

Jonah: "What? How'd yo-"

Jonah looked down at his wallet, and he realized it was pretty clear he was broke.

Jonah: "This is a very, very bad idea.."

Before deciding, he analyzed the strangers appearance. He had straight black hair with highlights in them, appeared to be in his mid 20's and had a grey suit.

If it was any consolation, the stranger's suit looked really expensive, making it at least a bit easier to believe him.

In the face of an unreachable wall, Jonah would throw away any pride he had to get to the top. Because that's exactly the kind of person he was.

Jonah, consciously ignoring the many problems that could arise, heard him out.

The stranger let out a grin followed by a few crunchy coughs, and asked him a question,

Stranger: "How good are you with a pole?"

Jonah, enthusiastically, jumped and turned around with sparkles in his gaze that met the strangers. His hands were reflexively fisted and up to his chest, showing that anything having to do with fighting brought him much excitement.

Jonah: "Although I mainly focus on general hand to hand combat, I am also adept with the polearm, as I picked it up during my training."

Despite the simplicity of the answer, the baffled reaction made by the stranger said it was anything but.

If this was the answer that the stranger was looking for was something that Jonah didn't really know. At this point all he really could do was be honest.

Stranger: "Good enough for me"

The stranger then pulled out a pen and notepad, scribbling down information and handed Jonah the piece of paper.

In large words wrote "Big Momaz" and the address of a building in eastern Tokyo.

Stranger: "That's your stripper name, suits you doesn't it?"

What Jonah truly feared was not losing, but becoming the person who wouldn't be able to get revenge on his father. And Jonah knew that if he were to accept, he would never be able to reach the latter.

Jonah: "I refuse."

Jonah said, with a cold voice, accompanied with sharp eyes in the same demeanor.

Albeit his father was the reason for why he had none in the first place, it was because of him that he was able to regain his pride.

Jonah left this path that he would set himself towards if he were to accept, and with it he left the promise of a life filled with regret and shame. If anything Jonah hated the "ifs" that were more frustrating than a bird eternally stuck inside a cage.

The sudden seriousness brought a smile to the strangers face. The self proclaimed hero that everyone was talking about, Jonah, really did exist after all. But to him, this was matter of business.

Stranger: "Oh, well so be it then."

The fake look of disappointment that the stranger had contained a very real anger behind it. It was difficult to tell what the stranger was really feeling, far more so than Jonah's other opponents, but this one was obvious.

The stranger placed his right hand's middle finger over his right hand's forefinger with the other fingers underneath them. In a manner similar to Jonah's declaration, the stranger then said,

Stranger: "Domain Expansion: Authority of Gay"

The city surrounding Jonah slowly became abandoned, with a grey dreary sky that matched it's ambiance. The domain Jonah was trapped inside of was a replica of the original city that he was in, but now it was daytime and most of the colors had been removed and replaced with gray.

Jonah was in the exact same position he was in before he was trapped inside the domain, close to the beginning of a crosswalk. There was no sign of any colors around except for the crosswalk Infront of him, which had the colors of a rainbow.

Suddenly, the stranger appeared a few feet in front of him from out of nowhere. He was at the beginning of the crosswalk, directly facing Jonah.

Something was different about the stranger, however, as he now had an angered look, glasses, and purple hair.

Stranger: "My name is Bonquifa Scarlocke, I am the Sin Archbishop of Pride"

Bonquifa: "This is the gayborhood and you are not welcome"
