Chapter 23:

Major to Major

Magic and the Black Cloaks

"Major Krea, sorry to be contacting you so late but something has come up."

"It really is no problem, General Decker, what is it?"

Within a Gravitywell briefing room, Major Maxi Krea was perfectly dressed and prepared for the day ahead of her. Her company hadn't been deployed for much since the end of the war and mostly been in protection missions in Former Breidal land for Ardent personnel.

They had gotten their rest and were more than ready to see some real action, which is why the usually stoic Krea looked the tiniest bit excited. Though she was largely strict and apathetic, her long pink hair and shiny blue eyes would give her the opposite look if she ever cared to smile.

She was a fully grown woman and the leader of the 104th Special Student Magic Company, also they were Group B during the operations in the Northeast theater. They weren't filled with monsters and Wildcards like the former 102nd but they certainly weren't weak.

"You're being deployed, we also need you to test some magic equipment. That's why I'm contacting you, we're testing more ways to conceal your identities and help with sight in the night."

Though most Demon Races had night vision to some degree, complete humans like Maxi lose hard in the night compared to some of her students. She would be glad to test something like that, especially if it helps to conceal identities, her hood has never fallen off, but it's not to say that it hasn't happened to others in the past.

"Let me step right in, really quickly."

Both the head of General Decker and Major Krea turned to see that Grand General Lumina was walking into the room, ever since the incident where she thought she was outmaneuvered, she, momentarily, prefers face-to-face communication. Though it was slower, it was much safer as it takes way more to listen in to her conversations and follow her.

Especially with her secret guard that she's brought out for protection on herself. For everyone around her, she just seemed a little more friendly than usual since she would always do everything through Magitech call or Magitech projection. She hasn't told anyone of the things she's done except Master Athena who she knew she could trust.

"Grand General Lumina? I thought you wanted me to talk with them?"

"No, Decker. I told you to tell them I was coming. You're dismissed from this conversation."

"Apologies, Grand General..." Decker gave a bow and severed his connection with the projection technology.

The room they were in was almost entirely empty as any information is usually displayed using the projection technology in the ceiling. There was nothing stopping them from meeting in the middle of the room where Lumina connected her cell to the projection tech.

"There was something we're to test Grand General?"

"Ah, that? We had to scrap it. Caused too many complications inside of a team. Those Ouro Elves don't know how to properly make face paint..."

Krea didn't ask anything else as the projection of profiles appeared before them. All of them were formerly part of the Executioners Order and part of the military branch, Krea can't say she's ever seen these people before but from the list of crimes attached to their names, she can think of the mission she was about to be assigned to.

"As you can see, these Executioners are criminals that abandoned us as the war with Breidal started. They personally tried to kill me multiple times during the war and just caused minor problems for us the entire time, with the war over, we can try to finally put an end to these idiots. This one right here..." Lumina walked over to a girl with silver hair and moved her file away from the other nineteen, "She's a spy for us. That's how we managed to minimize the damage caused to us. She's also just given us intel that they're planning on trying to kill Baron Kazami in the middle of the night in three days."

"So, we're to stake out the Baron until they strike? Is the spy to be eliminated?"

"No, she can live. She's going to leave the building after purposefully setting off the security. You should have the upper hand by the time they strike. They aren't weak by any means so don't underestimate them. Though, I feel like you don't underestimate anyone..." Lumina gave a stare at Krea who didn't change from her stone expression.

The meeting here was short but the plan was there. All there was to do now was gather the rest of her company.

Well, she first had to pick up her second in command who was more than likely at the church that was built inside of the school for the more religious students to go to. There weren't any full Execution Inquisitors, the Church's sect of the Executioners Order, in Gravitywell but that didn't mean a lot of the students didn't still want to pray or anything of the sort.

It was your pretty average-looking section of the building, but simply built the way the Church designed all of its halls, churches, and cathedrals. As per usual, there were a few students currently making a prayer to the statue of one of the Six, specifically, the God of War and Violence.

Considering the line of work, it made sense for this statue to be the only one there. But, what gave Krea a small surprise is when she was walking on the walkway, a bunch of kids ran through the rows of chairs and right into her.

They were the ones to fall over but she didn't bother trying to help them up, instead, she crossed her arms waiting for them to stand up in front of her.

"Hey-! Sister Krea?!"

The three kids whipped into shape causing Krea to sigh.

"The church is too lax on you. You know you shouldn't run in her, nor should you be playing. If you wanted to play, you have an entire training field to do that. Don't disturb the ones offering prayers or else next time, you'll have to be punished."

Of course, they were kids so the worst punishment she could give them was making them sit in a room writing an apology but kids have clocks that go at the speed of sound. Just thirty minutes doing something non-fun could feel like hours to them so they were scared stiff.

"I'm sorry Sister Krea...! We were praying but then Ar-"

"No. You started playing as a team, you get punished as a team. Doesn't matter who started, if one of you loses, all of you lose. There is no in-between. Now, get back to your training."

The kids nodded and peacefully walked out of the main hall. Those kids were the Reapers, a lot of Executioners are in fact raised from childhood into the life, and a majority of Krea class were raised in this very school until this point. She pretty much watched most of her company grow up over the last ten years as she had to train most of them from Reapers to Executioners.

The Reapers weren't exactly a fighting force but more of a finishing force. They were deployed to knock off any targets that escaped from Executioner's hands or if the targets were weak and small. This is exactly why they were named differently, they weren't meant to go out and directly deal with targets but well, reap and take what's left.

Though as you could probably tell, the Reapers weren't exactly a big secret around just about everywhere had some form of child labor. Some are worse than Ardent, some better.

Sure, Ardent might make kids fight in the most elite order on the continent but they make sure they're well protected on those missions to reap.

Krea made sure to watch as the kids left and turned around as someone approached her from behind. This was Sachiel Salem, one of the people Krea watched grow up at Gravitywell.

She was about the same height as Krea with a slender build and light skin. Her short fluffy black hair and piercing red eyes usually gave off the impression she wasn't all too friendly, especially with the almost unnerving smile she carried on her face most of the time.

Sachiel actually wanted to join the Execution Inquisitors but also didn't want to leave the people she grew up with so she's probably the only person in the whole institute apart of two branches at the same time. Her uniform is that of the Inquisitors but working mainly for the Military Branch.

Her outfit was the basic uniform given to all branches but the patches on her shoulder held both military and church symbols.

Speaking of the symbol, the Church used a Dodecagram with a whole six-pointed star in the center of it as their religious symbol.

But moving just slightly back, at the moment, she was wearing the religious habit as she also worked for the church in Gravitywell when not on duty. It was a bit more frilled and somewhat cute in nature, with longer skirts and a short cloak with the church's symbol placed at certain points around the outfit. On the back of the short cloak, the wrists, and around the edge of the skirt. The main colors were black but also white to give a good accent around the edges of the whole outfit.

"You dealt with them well, Major." Her voice was a little on the deeper side, complementing her dark looks.

"You should have thrown them out instead."

"I don't have the heart to tell the kids off like that." Though she looks quite mean, Sachiel was a bit of a big sister most of the time but also took heavy advantage of her looks when needed but her true nature would always be the kind one that doesn't like telling people off, "If you don't mind. I must continue my prayer, I can still hear you out while I'm doing so."

Krea didn't mind at all, they move back over to the alter as Sachiel got down on her knees, clasp her hands together, and closed her eyes. Since they were in a public place and neither of them wields noise-canceling wind magic spells, she gave a short rundown on what they were doing. Leaving out most of the major details until later.

All Sachiel knew is that they were moving today to go into the city and the only reason their Receptionist didn't tell her this was because the Receptionist finally got her full day off so she wasn't even in Gravitywell.

Still, she was given a job and by the Gods, she would talk to every single one of her soldiers by the end of this day. She prepared herself and once done talking with Sachiel, she began walking away.

Sachiel on the other hand finished her prayer and then told her Major to wait, "Major! Couldn't you just send a message to the group chat?"

"...Oh..." Krea wasn't the most Magitech knowledged around and constantly forgets to use the stuff all the time. She was about to spend her entire day walking around but in the few taps on her cell, she could contact her entire company.

She was embarrassed to be caught like such an old lady and just let Sachiel do it instead...
