Chapter 34:

Chapter 12: School begins, Summoning familiars

I wanted to be greedy in my next life, but become national hero instead

"Okay, everything we need... check."

"We are ready too," Kiira reported with a little stiff smile.

"But who would've thought that school would be two weeks out of operation due to malfunctioning barriers," Nina sighted as she checked her hairs in free floating mirror (my magic item invention).

"Hahahaha... yeah... my bad," I smiled wryly.

The reason why we didn't start the school right after the opening ceremony was that there still was the damage on the anti-magic barrier and while I was repairing it and making it easier to use, I accidentaly destroyed the barrier my sister made from Void magic. I tried to repair it, but ultimately decided to replace the entire barrier system with Space magic system. Thanks to this I got my hands on some barrier post plans that could be tweaked to use Space magic instead of Void magic. And I also found out how to use magic seals thanks to this which is really neat.

We picked up Gloriosa and headed to the academy. The plan for the first day was rather simple. As we were now familiar with the faculty, we had only one thing to do.

A familiar summoning. It's a ritual where you can summon a monster and make it serve you. There are actually only two types of people who do not follow this rule. One are summoners like Gloriosa and second are Spirit users. Spirit magic is using only lesser spirits that don't require contract, but to strenghten the skill a contract with higher ranked spirit is neccesary.

Speaking of spirits, Ruzu's Spirit possesion unique skill bypasses the contract by forcing the spirit into temporary subservience.

Kiira, on the other hand has to make contract with elemental spirits every single time she summons a new one, but the contract is set forever. Currently, she have under her belt three mid ranked spirits and one Great spirit for a total of four powerful spirits. Their atributes are Fire, Water and Wind for the mid ranked ones and Light element Greater spirit whih possess a name.

"Do you think something weird will happen?"

"Like the duel at the opening ceremony?" Taru chuckled at Kiira's provocation.

"That's not likely. I used my strongest barrier that allows humanoids to pass through it, the Monster Isolation barrier. Only thing that could tear that down is a dragon."

"Didn't you make yourself enemy of the Fire dragon king when you saved me?" Lani, who was accompanying us for whatever reason, asked.

"I did suck out quite a lot of his SP back then," I smiled wickedly, "That guy won't be able to move for quite some time. Unless he want's to get his ass kicked by other Dragon kings or me."

While chatting merrily, we arrived at the academy and after assembly in our class ended with introduction of Gloriosa, we moved to training fields that had the most strenghten barriers in order to allow me use more magic.

"Alright everyone. Let me explain it one more time. You will now summon your familiars. Familiars are monsters that bond with you on deep level. Also remember that more mana you pour into summoning circle the stronger the monster you summon will be, but you also need two times more mana to make it obediant."

If we had summoning magic skill we wouldn't need the later part as they would be subserviant right away after summoning though...

"Princess Gloriosa, as only summoning mage currently present, could you show your classmates how to do the summoning?"

"Understood," Gloriosa rised on her feet and stepped before us.

Appart from S class, there were also members of A class and B class. Meaning That Julius who picked a fight with me on the entery exam was here as well, on the very bottom of A class. I also noticed the slime and birds tamer girl, Viscount Sheernen youngest daughter, who I had no idea was same age as me, Luca was present too at the top of A class.

Meanwhile, Gloriosa finished her explanation and started casting her [Summon] spell. The magic circle flickered and started showing runes that were constantly changing.

Hmm? Did some of the runes light up?

The light on the magic circle intesified and a goblin with blue horn appeared from it. The so-called goblin paladin. I never fought one, but I heard that they are really strong. Still, it seems that monsters summoned cannot be higher level then their summoner.

In that moment, King of wisdom finished it's analysis on Summoning and spit out a new solid magic circle.

Wait... this thing... the runes decide parameters of summoned beasts? This could mean that if you choose the right symbols and pour in sufficient level of mana, anything could be summoned... interesting... I gotta test this in the future.

Once again I was surprised by the scary usefullness of my unique skills.

"Thank you princess for your insight. Now everyone, listen up. The summoning is important part of your future life so give it your all. We will assess the strenght of the monster you summon and if you manage to make a contract we will even give you points," miss Kalineli looked over us, "As no one have any points yet, well, except for one student actually, this is your first time earning points. Remember that if you get enough points you can move to upper classes at the end of each semester Though, if you don't get enough points you can also get to lower class, keep that in mind please."

The only difference for the students would be where they take the homeroom in the morning. The classes are same for everyone so there would be noting to gain except for the fact you could claim you left school among the cream of the top.

Speaking of which, I found out that all my sibblings that have already enrolled in the academy were top of the class. Even brother Gavin and big sis Hina (who are twins) were top of the class becouse they earn the same amount of points in their respective fields (Gavin in knight course and Hina in Magic course).

Now, back to summoning. From what I learned, Gavin summoned gryffon, like the one in Netrose family's coat of arms. Hina summoned Pseudodragon, a dragon like creature in size of a cat. Noel summoned Greater water spirit, Eru summoned Winter wolf and finaly Mina summoned Couatl a winged snake monster never before seen on this continent. Every single one of them managed to make a contract with their summoned beast too.

"This is weird..." one of the supervising teachers grumbled.

"Yeah, no one failed yet. Don't get me wrong though, I'm happy for the students that they managed to form contracts with their summons but..." another teacher added.

"Normally, more then 60% of the summons reject the contract, right?"

"Yes, that's how it always was. Oh, that's suprising."

Luca Sheernen just summoned a Roc and made a contract with him.

Why does that Roc seems like he's scared for it's life? One of the tachers thought.

"You realized it too? Right?" one of the teachers suddenly spoke up.

"What do you mean?"

"Just look over there. There. There. And there," the teacher pointed at four students.

"Sir Dragonrose and his party?"

"You mean... their status as Dragon slayers is causing this?"

"Dragons are apex predators. So if there is someone who can beat them..."

"Then the monsters would be intimidated..."

"Wait, what do you think they will summon then? If they so easily intimidate these monsters..."

"The barrier is stronger then it was before so it should be fine."

"Yeah... that's right..."

***

The summoning continued quite favoritably as no one failed at making contract. The S class was last to start their summoning. If I skip to the top ten seats, then Rin summoned a Pseudodragon with power of Fire. Alette summoned Hippogriff, Nina summoned one too, albeit a pink feathered one. Carolina summoned a fire breathing unicorn called Prixen. William summoned a Sprite and funily enought, it looks like a woman which made Yuni little displeased (she summoned a pegasus).

And then the show time started for real. Taru summoned a Green Leviathan. A monster that's in direct lineage of a divine beast named Leviathan.

The divine beasts also known as five original monsters are Leviathan, Behemoth, Salamander Sylpheed (who gave name to wind spirits) and finaly the most fearsome, the Fairy dragon, ancestor to all Dragons.

The first time they were named was in time of the first king, and the hero, of Ostillian kingdom, so I guess he really was human summoned from our world given those clishé names.

Next up was Lulu and she summoned an Owlbear.

"Third seat of S class Kiira Drakeena!"

"Present!" Kiira came from her information gathering between lower classes, like the rest of us did, while forging relationships with lower ranked noble and merchant children.

Kiira came before the teachers and started Spirit summoning.

The mana flowed around her and the magic circle lighted up. The earth shook in that moment and a black creature appeared from it. It had head of a lion and a single dandelion sprung from it's head.

"WhO DAreS tO sumMOn mE?!" the spirit spoke up.

"My name is Kiira Drakeena and—"

"PuNY eLf, YOu thINk THiS GREAT SpIR—"

Just like Kiira the greather earth spirit was interupted, but unlike with Kiira he wasn't interrupted by shout, but by a fist. Kiira's fist. She followed it by grabbing the flower and slightly pulling it up.

"Don't you go shouting on me you uneducated brute! You either become my subordinate or I'm plucking this flower out!"

"Okay! Okay! Okay! I get it I will serve you! Just don't pluck my flower!" the lion did complete one eighty.

"That's more like it," Kiira smiled and finished her contract.

Victina came next and she summoned a beast no one ever heard before, a Peryton. It's a deer-horned giant eagle which enjoys any meat it can get if information from earth sits right in this world.

So, every single student today was able to summon a familiar and make contract with it. If I'm the only one to fail I will be laughed at. And some of the students already surpassed my previous points, yeah, no pressure. None at all.

I, as the last student to summon a monster, stepped up and activated the circle. I don't care if I don't get too much points anyway. I can always just score some more by doing some simple task from adventurers guild.

A slight tug appeared on the magic circle. A two horns appeared from it. Then a head. And a dragons head at that. The head was followed by long neck and massive body with butterfly-like wings.

"Is that..." the teachers's jaws were hung open.

"A Fairy Dragon! Leo summoned a Divine beast!"

"Naturarly."

"What else should you expect."

"Next is the contract... that will be fast."

My girls obviously had a field day. Wait, Victina why were you the first one to react? What are you scheming?

"YOU... YOU SMELL LIKE LITTLE AZU... WHAT'S YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH MY SWEET LITTLE FIRE DRAGON KING?" the Fairy dragon asked using telepathy.

"You mean that jerk that put a curse on my precious subordinate? I took away the curse, of course. And little of his life force was sacrificed to do it," I smiled evily as I answeared in kind.

"IT WAS YOU?!!!!!" The fairy dragon with fear in it's eyes tried to fly up, but hit the barrier I put up to strenghten the barrier already in place. But I didn't expected that the tackle by a divine beast will be withstand and even to push it back.

"UUUU... I HATE SPACE-TIME MAGIC BARRIERS..."

The dragon fell back to the ground while sobbing.

"So, what do you say? Will you make a contract with me?" I smiled warmly and extended my right hand.

"WILL YOU... NOT DO ANYTHING TO ME?"

"Why would I hurt my partner? That doesn't makes any sence."

"OKAY, I understand," the dragon nodded and started shrunking, until only a small pink haired girl remained, "I will make a contract with you, Leonard Dragonrose, lord ap—"

I quickly moved in and blocked her mouth and whispered, "No one knows I'm the apostole and I would be glad if it stayed that way. Understood?"

"Um," the fairy dragon girl nodded and I took out a blanket from my Dimensional home to put it over her.

"Let's make the contract then," The Fairy dragon took my hand and kissed it. In that moment a tattoo like thing appeared on back of my hand. It was a dragon head with butterfly-like wings, "Done, now we are connected."

"Everyone! It's okay now!" I gave everyone a big warm smile and waved at them, "I made the contract!"

"YOU WHAT?!!" the teachers screamed out and my girls started laughing.

Lulu looked little uncomfortable, but I guess she will be alright in a few days. After all, I planned a date just for the two of us.

"So, what should I call you?"

"My name... is Diniel. That's how Hyoga called me back then."

"Oh, really?" I got little surprised by hearing my own name, but it's not like it's a one of a kind name, so I guess this is quite a coincidence.

"Hm, though it's been a few centuries since he last summoned me. Guess he died like all humans do..." Diniel got little gloomy.

"Sorry for making you remember that."

"Nah, it's okay. I was reborn a few times as well."

"You got reborn?"

"Yes, we divine beasts are origins of all monsters, we can't die as long as life exists in this world."

"Does that mean even life in other dimensions?"

"You mean angels and demons right? Yes it works for them too. Though, we dragons are keepers of the seals."

"So you're making sure they will not get back here, right?"

"Yep. Though, the demons are quite crafty and managed to weaken their seal a little."

"I've fought with a demonized wyvern and dragon."

"Yes, I know... those two poor souls will be reborn as little lizards instead of dragons... Thank you for freeing them though... you still have the egg, right? I will help you hatch it."

"Thank you, I was keeping it warm, but the egg didn't even bulged."

"That's understandible, dragon eggs don't need being warm, just absorb sufficient magical power. I will go first, you can summon me when the mood strikes... Oh, and I like red wine, if you could prepare some I would be happy!" Diniel smiled and with a puff disappeared, leaving only the cloth I gave her behind.

After this wild ecounter, I was called to the royal palace. There I had to explain about what I did and how. It took the rest of the day to explain everything, though...
