Chapter 7:

Mountains of Sand - Free Verse

Hidden Poetry

I am like a grain of sand blowing in the wind,

My path unknown, infinite and vast,

Where do I belong, where do I stay?

In this world full of lies and mysteries,

Is the answer I seek among the other grains of sand,

or is it in the vast black oceans,

that spread far beyond the bounds of this planet.

The question I have is the same for my friend, brother or sister,

“What are we?”

Are we the grains of sand that pile upon each other?

Just to exist as an individual entity,

Is that our true form?

No we are but one living thing,

like the tree that has sprouted from the soil of our land,

It lives together with every single part of its being,

If one part does not nourish,

the whole tree does not grow,

for the whole tree must be nourished for it to grow.

What have we become,

blind, confused, and unsure,

Where do we stand, where do we go?

We must unveil the door of opportunities that lie before us

And see that for every mountain of gold created,

There is but a mountain of sand,

For what is the worth of a single grain of sand,

Nothing is our answer,

but a single tree can give birth to hundreds of smaller trees,

Can you not see that our true worth lies in the image that we are but one being?

One action, one movement, that “We are!”

We are potential, We are growth, We are change,

We are the future… not I.
