"The Magician's Humble Beginnings"

"Mugena", something created by God long ago and which was bestowed upon Humanity. Some are born without Mugena and go on to live relatively normal lives. While those who use Mugena are known as "Magicians''.

Mugena, allows people to create and manipulate the natural elements around them. And manipulating these elements can allow someone to do extraordinary things. But, there is a limit to these amazing abilities.

Mugena comes from something called the "Elixir Tree" which was created by God alongside Humanity. And it's only up to chance whether someone is born with Mugena or not if you aren't you are considered unlucky.

Taboo, a set of laws and restrictions created by God to limit the freedom of his creations and their new-found gift. If any of those laws are broken by a Human they will be branded with what's called a "sin".

These sins will torment the Human who has the sin being for the rest of their sad and pitiful existence. If a person has more than one sin burdened on their soul they will be sent to an absent place of nothingness known as "Purgatory".

Purgatory is a place that I wouldn't wish upon my worst enemy as they would slowly go insane. That's why most magicians warn their children of being a sinner and going to Purgatory. My father did the same when I was growing up.

The laws of Magicians go as follows, "Law #1: If your Mugena is weak and you aren't strong willed then you will die. Law #2: If you violate the taboo by traveling to other lands or using non-elemental Mugena then you have committed a sin that will follow you for the rest of your existence. Law #3: Committing more than 1 sin will get you sent to nothingness or as humans know it "Purgatory".

More on Mugena, any element you could think of can be manipulated or created by using Mugena. Furthermore, as the laws state only elemental Mugena is allowed to be used, and using non-elemental types of Mugena will cost you a sin. And more use of this forbidden types of Mugena will give you another sin and send you straight to Purgatory.

Deals are contracts that Humans can make with Demons for power. And it is said if you sell your soul to the king of Demons "Lucifer" then you will obtain power for 24 hours before being dragged down to Hell to be tortured forever.

That is what happened to the fool that is my father.

I then closed my notebook and put the pen inside my desk drawer.

"With these notes, I'll probably pass the exam with flying colors."

I am a Magician just like my father. I'm only 16 so I'm still in high school and I'm also an orphan. My mom is dead and my dad was dragged to Hell right in front of me. Some call me "Ryu" meaning Dragon and some assholes call me "Orphan Boy".

But, my given name is "Ryuga Ryuzen". I have scruffy longish red hair which extends down to the very end of my upper back. I have dark blue eyes which contrast with the night sky. I'm 5"8 which makes me slightly taller than most of my peers. And living in Tokyo Japan, I consider that an accomplishment. 

I then plopped in my bed and then closed my eyes while my thoughts still ran rampant through my head as I looked back on my life.

I have a fair skin tone and I'm slightly muscular but only average in terms of physical strength. I was gifted with an advanced level of water Mugena at birth called "Ice". Because I was born with such a great gift some people looked up to me and some despised me because of it.

Even though I was blessed with this amazing king of Mugena, I'm not that skilled with it and one day I could lose control. To prevent that from happening I use the basic form of water Mugena, water Mugena itself.

And thankfully, I'm skilled enough with water Mugena to get around and stand my ground against other weak Magicians. Well, technically I'm not an official Magician recognized by the Japanese government let alone the world.

It's all due to my age and because I'm in high school I'm considered a "Magician in Study". But if you as me, I'm as much of a Magician as an official one. The reason I was taking notes was that tomorrow is the "Magician registry" which is when I get to become an officially recognized Magician.

 And that's been my life up until now. I do have a dream. Once I become a Magician I'll travel to Hell and be reunited with my father after all he's the only family I have so even if I have to suffer in Hell for an eternity at least I'll be with my dad.

As soon as that thought finished, my consciousness faded away. As I awoke I jumped out of bed and rushed into the bathroom to practice basic hygiene. After I left the bathroom I slipped on my school uniform which consists of a red magical robe and then I left out of the door, not caring to eat breakfast.

I then ran at top speeds for minutes upon minutes until I finally reached the front gates of my school. I stared at the gates for a moment as my life flashed before my eyes. I gulped and repressed tears from sheer excitement and joy.

This was the day that would decide the rest of my life.
