Chapter 6:

Panda Bear and Mr. Bee - (A Children's Story)

Kazemonogatari

In a dark, dark room, a lone figure lay, regretful and teary-eyed.

Knowing nothing else, it had no way of seeing what was going on outside.

That was until a crack of the door brought forth light.

Another figure peeked in, curious at the sight.

“Panda Bear, Panda Bear, why so glum? It’s me, Mr. Bee, your buddy, your chum!”

Panda Bear awoke to the sudden din, but he turned his head back and hid a bitter grin.

“You know, Mr. Bee, why I’m in such a bitter mood. You only have to open the door to see what’s wrong, dude.”

The door swung wide with a heavy creak, and light shone in on something black and bleak.

Panda Bear was sulking. Panda Bear was sad.

All because Panda Bear’s fur had no white, egad!

Mr. Bee understood. He would be sad too without his stripes.

But that didn’t stop him from lending a hand and ending his gripes.

“Panda Bear, so what if you don’t have spots? Let’s still go outside, where we can have fun and lots!”

Panda Bear looked up, at Mr. Bee’s smile.

He was unsure. He would be for a while.

“I dunno, Mr. Bee. The world feels so scary like this. If only I had someone like me, then maybe nothing would feel amiss.”

Mr. Bee felt confident. Mr. Bee remained standing firm.

There was much for him to show. There was much to learn.

“What is here for you that is not out there? Surely, you could take a chance. A whim, a dare.”

Mr. Bee dipped out of the room, but only for a time.

Just long enough for Mr. Bee to think of another rhyme.

“Shoot for the moon, shoot for the stars, you need not aim for what is high. If you won’t come out the door with words, then how about some apple pie?”

Panda Bear’s head turned. Panda Bear’s head jerked.

Everyone knew that aiming for the stomach worked.

“Very well then. I suppose I have a moment to spare. But I’m not sure how much out there I’ll care.”

Panda Bear took Mr. Bee’s hand. They set off outside.

Panda Bear gasped a moment later. At the curious ride.

Bells and whistles all over. Two wheels in back, a giant one in the front.

With its gaudy appearance, Panda Bear wondered if it was all for a stunt.

But regardless, Panda Bear was made to agree.

Mr. Bee led the way at the count of three.

Zipping, zooming, soaring down the road.

Panda Bear and Mr. Bee as the car’s load.

Soon they approached a cozy little shed.

“The apple pie was small. Another snack first instead?”

Mr. Bee zoomed right in, before Panda Bear could speak.

And moments later, he came back with the special of the week.

“A pizza pie, heavy on red sauce. Come on and dig in. Show your stomach who’s boss!”

Panda Bear ate his fill. He was quite content.

Soon the engine roared and off they went.

The next spot was a favorite of Mr. Bee. That much was clear.

They were surrounded by trees. The buzzing of bees was near.

Mr. Bee’s friends were all in a rush. They all whizzed into their honey caves.

But several of them saw the two come by and decided to send out some waves.

The bees greeted them. They offered them orange honey.

For Panda Bear’s stomach, such a dessert was right on the money.

“Would you like to come along for the task? We gave you a snack, so can you do what I ask?”

Panda Bear looked shocked. Mr. Bee had led him to work.

Such a hidden agenda. Panda Bear could only sigh and smirk.

“Lead the way, Mr. Bee. This is your day. A promise is a promise. That’s all I’ll say.”

Panda Bear chased after him, as Mr. Bee flew past the trees.

Out into the open, out into the sun, where there was a nice breeze.

A giant field of yellow flowers spread all across the hills.

And among the daffodils was a boar looking for cheap thrills.

“There it is! That villain, that cad! It is eating our flowers. It makes me so mad!”

Panda Bear knew what to do. He charged up a tackle.

His all-black fur made him scary. Like that of a jackal.

Through the field of flowers Panda Bear went.

Seeing him approach, the boar knew what he meant.

Running from Panda Bear, the boar skittered away.

At least now, Panda Bear felt useful for the day.

But little did he know, Panda Bear tripped with a plop.

Rolling down the green, grassy hills, his body couldn’t stop.

Tumbling, whirring, stumbling by.

He soon came upon a place that wasn’t dry.

“That’s the lake you’ve rolled into!” Mr. Bee yelled.

Panda Bear had a hard time looking, but rather smelled.

The scent of blue water. The feel of damp fur.

Though it felt nice to wade in it, his head was still a blur.

But then, a roar broke through the air.

Panda Bear thought he was in for a scare.

“Do not worry. That is only the resident unicorn. Just like you, he has faced a lot of scorn.”

Mr. Bee’s words made Panda Bear feel just a bit braver.

He would stand his ground if only to return the favor.

Out came a unicorn, purple and bright.

It was certainly a very peculiar sight.

As he approached, Panda Bear’s fear grew.

But that was until he gave him something to chew.

A purple cupcake handed over in an offering of peace.

That was when Panda Bear knew his fears could cease.

After all, the unicorn didn’t seem to mind.

That an all-black panda bear was also kind.

“Let’s head back, Panda Bear. I believe that’s all he wanted to share.”

With a nod, Panda Bear felt glad.

This entire trip had not made him sad.

“But before we leave, I have one last gift to share. Hold your paws out and let me show how much I care.”

Panda Bear was surprised. He was confused as well.

But Mr. Bee had no tricks. That much he could tell.

A bouquet of violets, Mr. Bee had in his hand.

It was a big thank you for doing all that he can.

Holding the gift dear to him, Panda Bear give Mr. Bee a happy grin.

But then, Mr. Bee pointed in shock. White spots were now where black had been.

Panda Bear’s jaw fell down. Panda Bear was in awe.

He was now black and white, just like any other he saw.

“How did this happen? How could this be? What has this entire day done to me?”

Mr. Bee patted his friend on the back.

“Panda Bear, this is just what you lack.

Red pizza sauce on the chin. Orange honey from the bees.

Yellow daffodil petals. Green grass on your knees.

Cool, blue water. A purple gift of cake.

And to top it off, a bouquet for your sake.

The colors of the rainbow, when combined, becomes white.

The experiences that you had, it has been brought to light.”

Panda Bear thanked Mr. Bee for his magic. He wondered how much was planned.

But regardless if it was, this entire day had been magnificent and grand.

A caring friend would do anything to brighten up your day.

All you have to do is let them in when they say “Hey!”
