Chapter 5:

Chapter 5 ( The Truth of Bak Joan)

Marae

In the evening, Little Richard went to the garden of the mansion. Bak Joan had to pull Richard’s wheelchair.

“Bak Joan, Please forgive my rude behavior yesterday,” Richard began the chat. “Oh, Master, I didn’t mind it. I will also try not to say words that annoy you,” Bak Joan replied. The chat ended.

Richard didn’t know what to speak more and remained silent. He was deciding whether he should talk about his dreams or not. Bak Joan was conscious of Richard’s reluctance and decided to restart the chat.

“You know, Master Richard, at the orphanage, around sixteen people had to sleep in a compound bedroom,”

Richard seemed interested in his words.

“Else, how big was the bedroom?”

“About half the area of this mansion’s living room, Master,”

“That’s so narrow!!! Does living in that small area cause fights among kids for area property?”

“No, Master. We love and help each other like siblings. There were some bullies. But no one could bully us if we stuck together. We have to clean our places together because the caregivers would scold us if the places were dirty,” And so on, Bak Joan told Richard about his experiences at the orphanage. Richard listened to him with great interest as these topics were new. He had never thought of clearing his bed or tidying his room before. Also, he had just learned that sometimes in orphanages, the so-called caretakers took all the donated foods, and the children were left starving. Richard had never starved. When he is angry, the servants are always ready to give him a treat. Richard’s mansion always has plenty of food, even some rotted with no use.

Richard had always thought his life was miserable because of his useless legs. His father's words made him think he was a loser. But now, Richard realized his condition was better than the orphans.

Richard wanted to tell Vithura about the nightmares he dreamt of. He was afraid that he would die in his dream. But the excuse, “We’ve only met for two days,” prevented him from saying.

That night, a shadowy figure appeared at the foot of Little Richard’s bed when he was sleeping soundly. That creature looked at Richard without moving. It was similar to a snake hypnotizing its prey.

A person suddenly entered the room. It was Bak Joan. As soon as he got inside, a golden armor appeared on his body, and a red cape covered him. His humane form descends into a god-like one. With the sword in his hand, he attacked the shadowy one.

The shadow disappeared for a while but reappeared again behind Bak Joan. It stroked him with a thorn of darkness. Bak Joan made a move quickly and held the thorn with his hand. He threw it to the light, causing it to disappear. This attack also weakened the shadowy one attached to the thorn. But it appeared in front of him again, saying,

“Little Deav, what’s your age?”

His voice was echoing like the sound of multiple people.

“Is that your business?”

“Vithura, the protector Deav of children or as your current status, Bak Joan, the servant boy, you need to know that you are not dealing with ordinary demons. Unlike you, Deavs, we are not agnostic beings with the title “gods,” We are Marae. We have existed since intelligent lives came into existence. This boy, Richard, was born because of his father’s deeds and belonged to us. Don’t step in our way,”

“As I am a protector of children, I am responsible for protecting this boy,”

“Today, there are no deaths in the mines his father controls. So, we will only disrupt him. But remember, if you don’t want to risk your power or life, avoid us,”

“My power and life are my choices,”

“Good. Keep in mind that we will turn the life of anyone standing in our way into a nightmare,”

After giving the message, the shadowy one disappeared. Little Richard was murmuring during his sleep because of the nightmares. Bak Joan (A.K.A) Vithura patted his head softly, causing him to become stable again.
