Chapter 25:

An Endless Night - Rouvil Revolution (Part 2)

Diary of Void: The Millennium War

King's Garden Palace, Capital City Gryam, Eastern Rouvil Kingdom

What happened here? And who did this?! That was Kartik Brune's first thought when he had arrived at the King's Garden Palace. And you can't blame him for thinking about that. After all, the first thing he had seen was a pool of blood. Confused and worried, he ran into the main building where the signing would occur. He had a gut feeling that would be something wrong, but he didn't expect what he saw.
He threw up at the sight. His butler, Nisus came running into the building to check up on his master but he too threw up at the sight.

Bodies, blood and all sorts of human organs covered the entire room. The smell was dangerously strong due to the sheer amount of human remains contained in one room.

"This... no..." Kartik struggled to make out words. The sight was almost the closest thing you could get to hell in this world. He fled from the room with Nisus following him and when he arrived outside, his vision turned upside down. He could see his body from up high but his butler had a face of shock before his vision turned black... forever.

 ...

"I can't believe we missed one." Rharas said.

"No, I don't believe he was in the room when we first attacked. Likely he had arrived just after we had finished cleaning up the room." the silver-haired girl replied.

"I see."

Rharas and his boss were standing nearby to Kartik's dead body. With a clean shot from Rharas' sniper rifle, it was almost instant death for him. But his butler, Nisus was able to escape and by the time the duo got to Kartik's body, the butler was nowhere to be seen.

"Should we apprehend him, Boss?"

"We should... That is what I would have liked to say, however, I'm sure he would have already made it to one of the military branches of the city. And unlike before, these opponents, we would have a hard time winning against. Those guys are going to be the elite of the entire military sector of the Rouvil Kingdoms. So here are my orders. Flee far away from this place when we still got the chance to do so, and lie low. Meet up at base within the next three days. Got it?"

"Got it."

"Very well. I'm going to take Unit-1 and 2-"

"And I take Unit-3 and 4?"

"Correct. Now let's get going."

"Roger."

...

The capital was in outrage and panic. No. The whole Rouvil Union was in a panic. 90% of the entire government staff of all of the member countries were massacred in a single night. For the time being, allied countries in the Entanian Alliance such as the Cloud Empire, Groyu, Juyu, and Futosaire were sharing the three governments' power to maintain stability for now before the population of the Rouvil Kingdoms can vote for new government personnel. It was the best option; the only option actually. If this had not happened, then the most likely scenario was that the Rouvil Kingdoms would collapse into several smaller countries and fight each other for total control.

This was a no-go for the Second Entanian Alliance as the Rouvil Union was a key member for grain supply and food production in Alliance. Losing the Union, it would mean losing almost half of the Alliance's total food production. It was a no-brainer to figure out why the other members stepped in to help recover the Rouvil Kingdoms back on their feet.

Capital City Blae, Cloud Empire

Around a month had passed since our duel. I started classes in the Academy of Warfare, in Upper Class 2. However, I was quickly promoted to Class 1 due to my "outstanding achievements" but I doubt this is the case. Probably Vula or someone with influence over the Academy promoted me to Class 1 but I don't get it.

"Oh hey, it's Void!"

I stopped daydreaming. I turned to look where the voice called out to me and sure enough, I saw Jerik with his siblings; Ging and Kerui.

"Oh. What a coincidence, Jerik," I replied, walking to the three of them. "What are you going here?"

"We are waiting for Guina and Vanti to arrive." answered Kerui.

"Yeah, we planned to go have some mock battles in self-defence and stuff at Rose Park. You seem to be free. Wanna join us?"

"Sorry, I'm afraid I can't join you guys today." I hurriedly replied. "Sorry about that."

"No, it's fine. Come join us later if you got time."

"Alright then, I might come and join you if I got time left."

Walking away, I passed the girl with blue hair who was asleep in the waiting room prior to the test. I haven't seen her since, but she was wearing an item of black-colouring, I figured she was in an Upper Class; like me previously.
I went along and said a quick hello to her, with her greeting me back with a nod. We went our ways and I returned back home.

"Oh hey, you're back." Heodia called out.

"Yeah, I'm back. So where's Charlin?"

"Here!" she cries out, bursting out from the door of her room.

"Oh, there you are." I said.

During the past month, for the time we had spent together, myself, Heodia, and Charlin have grown quite close to each other. To be honest, we are currently having more of a little sister-type relationship with Charlin instead of the proposed parent-daughter-type relationship.
However, I had stopped with the idea that she came from the Northern Continent. Sure, she had the crystal blue eyes that you could generally find among the native population of the Continent, but black hair was also a rarity in this world, with only an estimated 100,000 people having black hair. To find a person with black hair in the Northern Continent was almost impossible. And another matter of fact, of what she was doing in Touimai, a city several thousand kilometres away from the Northern Continent.
Another reason was something that Charlin said herself. A bright place with lots of light all day long. That description doesn't match up with the conditions of the Northern Continent well.

It's so troubling to find out where Charlin came from, and her original name. It's painstakingly annoying and painful to continue. But at the same time, if she has anyone that considers her important to them, I don't want them to feel worried more than they should be. Hmph. It's just like that time huh.

I joined Heodia in fixing her telescope which was damaged when she protected me from falling rubble. We managed to fix it within two hours, not so bad if I say so myself. Had to deal with millions of micro glass shards though. It was a pain in the ass to do but since it's back and ready to use again, it's going to be quite useful during the time when I'm deployed on the battlefield whenever that time comes.

"Thanks for the help, Void. I appreciate it."

"No worries Heodia. Afterall, I was the problem that broke the telescope in the first place. It was just the right thing to do."

"Well, if you say so."

It was just like every other night afterwards, Heodia made dinner for the three of us, we ate and cleaned up then headed for bed at around 11. However, to put it bluntly, we were attacked during the night.

Roughly at 3 in the morning, four unknown persons got into Heodia's radar system. The radar system equipped on Heodia was the most advanced in the world, and by a long shot since it was developed by Uto himself, so when Heodia warned me about those four people, I quickly got into action and prepared myself for a fight. Pulling out my material-round luger, and setting Heodia into combat mode, we were prepared to put up a fight with those four. Charlin was safe in Heodia's arms, as I trusted that she will protect her anyway.

The eerie silence was followed by the faint sounds of the door being unlocked and opened. Light footsteps could be felt on the wooden floor, and whispers of the members of the party were picked up by Heodia's enhanced hearing.

"Target's room successfully infiltrated. Commencing Plan A into action." said one of them. Judging from what they are saying, I'm guessing it was a planned attack with more people somewhere else.

"How many unidentified people do you have in the range currently?" I whispered to Heodia.

"Currently, with a range of five hundred metres, only those four are the unidentified persons."

"Can you increase the range up to five kilometres?"

"Sure, I could but at best, around 70% of the people on the radar would be classified as unidentified. However, at three kilometres, that number should decrease by seven times. You want to do three kilometres instead of five?"

"Sure."

A quick moment of silence once again.
"Ten people including those four over there." she reported.

"Where are the other six?" I asked her.

"Two of them are roughly two km away, in 47 Saint Leon Street, one of them is currently seven hundred metres away from us, and the last three are roughly just in range, at 2.8 kilometres away."

"Hm. I see. Judging from the person seven hundred metres away, we can assume that they are a part of that group. And for the other five, it's going to be a hit or miss."

"Then should I contact your sister, Vula for some assistance?"

"Well- hmm... sure. Call her."

"Roger that. You going to deal with them now?"

"Yeah. Sooner or later they should find us. We should have the element of surprise with us."

I got up from the laying position I was in before, slowly making my way to a good location to fire from.
Here should be good enough.

Peaking out from the little hole the space had, I slid my material luger into the space.
Oh wait, I need a silencer. So that we can apprehend the other guy as well.
I pulled out a silencer from the same pocket as my luger and attached it to the luger.
"Feno is going to kill me for using her silencer that she trusted me with." I sighed. "Wait no, this is not the time for that now."
With the silencer now attached to the barrel of my luger, I could fire without fearing much of the sound being heard by the outside. I fired once.
A heavy thud came from one of the once four-manned team. The surviving three turned to look at what happened to their comrade.

"He's dead!" cried one of them.

"And soon, you will join them." I whispered in reply. I fired three more times. With a clean headshot from less than ten metres away, death was inevitable for them. After waiting a minute to confirm that they are dead, I went and checked their bodies. Nothing too much valuable, but far more wealthy than the average thief. I found several high-end weapons, but they weren't worth much.
"This is quite suspicious though. I should contact Shizuko and sister to solve this."

...

"So that's what happened this morning." I said to Vula and Shizuko. Several hours had passed since the four people broke into my dorm, with Heodia catching the fifth person, which was their leader. Extracting information from him, we actually didn't learn that much. Just the names of the group and information like that.

"Brother, some kind of bad luck magnet?" Vula asked. "Like, since you're very unlucky waay too often."
I chuckled in response. "Maybe. Maybe not."
Though I do agree with Vula's statement though. Uto made it clear that using the ring doesn't come with any drawbacks right? That means... the other thought is that I may have used the curse subconsciously. Quite unlikely... however, someone, like Uto for instance may have pulled the strings here. If that's the case, I don't get their goals.
