Chapter 3:

The Docks

C.A.N. Collector

It was later in the afternoon. The docks were relatively quiet . Other than some workers unloading and loading cargo crates at the shipyard, nobody was around. It was a bit chillier than downtown, but the weather was still relatively nice. The air smelled like sea salt.

R.C. stood staring out at the ocean, contemplating how to go about starting his search for this supposed can collecting group.

According to the rumor, this group is at one of the warehouses near the docks. The only issue is there are dozens of warehouses and it could be at any of them.

He felt a bit overwhelmed with the number of places he would have to search. Not to mention this was just a rumor he was investigating. It very well could not even be true.

Suddenly something caught the corner of his eye. There were two people just a little distance away from him that were each carrying what looked to be large black garbage bags. One was wearing a yellow hoodie the other was wearing a red one. Both had their hoods up. That was about all the detail that could be made out from this distance.

What the hell are they doing? R.C. thought to himself.

He decided to tail the two people. They seemed to be up to something suspicious.

He got up as close as he could to them without being noticed. They were roughly ten or so yards ahead of him. R.C. stayed crouched and kept hidden as he followed them.

Neither of the hooded people said a word to each other as they walked. They seemed to be quite focused on whatever their current task was.

The trash bags they carried seemed to contain something that was fairly heavy, since the two weren't moving all that fast. It seemed as though they were being used to conceal something.

Eventually the two came to a particular warehouse. R.C. was still watching them from just a short distance away.

They went around the corner of the warehouse just out of R.C.'s sight. He got right up to the building and peaked around the corner.

Where did they go?

There was no sign of the two. It seemed as if they had vanished.

R.C. felt a bit perplexed. There was no way they could have gotten that far. The area was fairly open, so there wasn't really anywhere for them to hide.

He inspected the side of the building. There were no doors or windows over here. The wall was made of standard brick and mortar. Nothing really seemed too out of the ordinary.

He put his hand up to the brick wall sliding it across the surface feeling around.

After a while, he felt something. A segment of the wall looked like perfectly normal brick, but it didn't feel like it. It felt metallic and smooth.

It seemed like there was a hidden entrance that was being concealed by some sort of hologram. R.C. felt around some more to see if he could find some sort of button or handle. Eventually he found what felt like a lever. He put his hand on it.

For a moment he wondered whether he should open the door or not. If he opened it he wasn't sure what would be on the other side. After a while he came to a conclusion.

"It's not like I have anything else to lose." He said to himself out loud as he pulled the lever.
