Chapter 6:

Preparing for the Hunt

C.A.N. Collector

It was later now and the sun was beginning to set. R.C. found a bench nearby and sat down.

He pulled out his phone to further inspect the image he took of the bounty. There was no Images just text which read:

El Dew-pra Cobra

Reward: 100,000 Tabs

Danger Level: High

Location Last Spotted: Western edge of Popolis at the parking lot two blocks north of the airport.

Description: Green and mantis like in appearance. Razor sharp blades in place of hands. Roughly the size of a human. Mostly active at night. *Warning this C.A.N. is highly aggressive. Engage at your own risk.*

Now that he had a general Idea of what and where he was hunting he had to prepare. He thought for a moment what he would need.

Like any good hunter I'll bait my prey and then go in for the kill while it's distracted.

He still didn't have any money, so he would have to take what he thought of as a "Loan". He found a vending machine on the side of a building that was fairly secluded. There also didn't seem to be any cameras around.

The Machine was red and had a Dr. Popper logo illuminated on the front. It was an older model, so it used a basic turn key to open the machine's change drawer.

He happened to have a paperclip and a flat head screwdriver on him. For a few moments he toyed around with the lock, bending the paperclip and shoving it in, while he pried at it with the screwdriver at the same time. He checked around him every few moments to make sure no one was coming.

Eventually the lock made a snapping noise. He had intended to pick the lock, but he ended up breaking it in the process. Either way it didn't matter, the front panel of the machine swung open revealing a metal drawer that held the change.

It was about half full. R.C. looked around one last time to make sure he was alone. He proceeded to empty the contents of the drawer into his pockets. It wasn't a lot of money, but it was enough to buy him everything he needed.

R.C. thought for a moment, This isn't stealing. I'm just "borrowing". I'll repay it one day... Maybe.

It was late now, so he decided to return to his apartment for the night. He would continue with his plans the next day.

...

The next morning he woke up early. He skipped breakfast and got to work. As tempting as it was to spend some of the change he "found" yesterday on food, he fought his hunger and stayed focused on the task at hand.

He made his way over to the west side of Popolis near the airport. On his way over he stopped inside a convenience store and bought four cases of soda, all different brands. He used up all the money he had to buy them.

Since these "C.A.N.s" consumed soda cans in order to multiply, a case of soda seemed like perfect bait. He placed the cases in a few different places near the location described in the bounty.

All he had to do now was get a weapon and wait until night. It wasn't even noon yet, so he decided to go back home until then.

...

Back at his room, he dug through his closet looking for something. It was completely unorganized and mostly filled with dirty clothing and useless junk.

He pulled stuff out one by one and just threw it on the floor behind him. Eventually he found what he was looking for. It was a plain wooden bat.

This is what he planned on using to smash up the mechanical creature with. He just had to make one slight modification to it.

He proceeded to grab a chair from his kitchen and smashed it up on the floor. With his hands, he pulled out any nails he could find from the debris.

He didn't own a hammer, so he just used a brick he happened to have laying around. One after another he pounded the nails though the top part of the bat in all different directions. The bat now sort of looked like a spiked mace.

There were still a fair amount of hours he had to kill, so he just lounged around until nighttime hit.

It was probably close to 10:00pm. When he looked outside his door, it appeared to have begun raining. It was also sort of colder now. R.C. decided to throw on his parka before he headed back out to the west side of the city.

He concealed his bat under his jacket and closed his door behind him.

If I can find this thing, this should be easy money!

Feeling quite overconfident, he went on his way to hunt the C.A.N. known as the El Dew-pra Cobra.
