Chapter 86:

Good Guys Win

At this point, most of everyone just up and ran. It didn’t make sense to stick around any longer with both their leaders defeated (or soon to be) and the exits left unguarded. Sure, some of them wouldn’t make it, but Bozo and his new knife-wielding lackey couldn’t possibly catch them all.

Could he?

The only ones to stick around were the brave and the stupid- that being Kyrie and Spider. One for her friend, the other for his ego, they both chose to stand and fight.

“Spider? Kyrie! What are you doing?” Katie called out to the two as Frankie tried to pull her out the nearest hole in the wall.

“Save yourself!” The commander beckoned, swiping her hand away and dodging a cut headed straight for her forearm. “We’ll keep them at bay!”

Anti attacked her again, slicing her inner thigh. His advances were clearly driven to cause her enough pain in hopes she would surrender. A noble strategy, but one sorely lacking in effectiveness against such a tenacious target.

“I’m not leaving... without Arsene!” She hissed, prepared to fight to her dying breath, were such a thing to happen.

“Let’s go!” Frankie tugged harder on her sister, finally freeing her from her death grip on the shattered wall. The two ran into the evacuated city block, hoping for their friends’ safety.

Flying up right up to kick Spider square in the face and onto the ground, Bozo finally joined the battle with his comrade. The dynamic duo stood back-to-back, watching their antagonists grope around for weapons and equipment. A sorry, but equally entertaining sight.

“Anti, I see you’ve finally shown yourself.”

“This is what you wanted, yeah?” He walked up to the bleeding Spider and stepped onto his back, crushing his gadget with his powerful stomp.

“Thomas! Ugh- asshole!”

“I never asked you to stay in the shadows all this time. You threw your social life in the trash.”

“Hey, I’m shy, alright? I think it made…” he flipped the boy over, holding his blade just above his neck. “…for an excellent reveal.”

“Indeed. You’ll be the perfect sidekick.”

“Give up, boy.” He taunted to the villain.

Kyrie rose back into action, swinging the butt of her carbine to Bozo’s head. He rose his arm, the stock shattering as it bounced off his bruised skin.

“Youch… That hurt, you know. Metal skeleton and all, at least I’m still human…. But you wouldn’t know about that, would you?”

He hovered back up, kicking her aside just as he had the impressively tall child. Anti had him in handcuffs now.

“One down. You got the girl?”

“So much conviction… all for this? She lost when she tried to play the hero.”

He picked up Kyrie to examine the wounds on her face- the imprints of the action figures she fell on could be made out with ease. He laughed, and tossed her beside Arsene for Anti to restrain. Pushing down his fury, the hero of the fallen city looked outside at the rats escaping from his sight. They would pay.

“Ready, boss.” Anti confirmed as he secured the cuffs on the limp co-commander. “The cops will deal with these ones soon enough.” He looked over Spider, Arsene, Kyrie, and all the other terrorists who had fallen during the battle. “Let’s just hope they give us some names for the others.”

“That won’t be necessary…” Bozo looked sorrowfully at his defeated marketing team. “We’ll catch them all, you and me, right now.”

“Of course, sir.”

“Remember. They cleared out the innocents. Anyone you see… is a villain. Proceed without hesitation.”

The heroes’s final pursuit began with renewed vigor across the barren streets of Venge City.
