Chapter 1.5: What is Ethera?

"Fana, can you give the class a brief explanation of what Ethera is?" My homeroom instructor asked me

"Yes, Teacher" I stood up and walked to the front of the classroom.

"Ethera is a form of magical power that is used by Mages, Holy Knights, and Witches."

"What are the classifications of Ethera?"

"First, there is Pure Ethera which can only be accessed by Witches. Next, there is Elemental Ethera which consists of fire, water, wind, earth, space, light, and dark. This magic is used by Mages and Witches alike, but Witches can mix these and create new forms of magic from them. The last is Ethera enhancement which is mainly used by Holy Knights and mercenaries.

"What are the levels created by the Central Mage Academy of Ars?"

"There are ten levels of Ethera proficiency that can be used to create magic. Levels 1-2 (Chanted) are basic magic that is used by F and D-rank mages. Levels 3-5 (Chanted) are slightly more advanced and require the skill of a C-rank mage to perform."

"Levels 6-7 (Chanted) are dangerously advanced magic to be used by B-rank Court level Mages. Level 8 magic (Chanted) is Grandmaster-level magic that is only used by A-rank Mages. Anything above level 8 is too dangerous for a human to perform and will require the power of a Witch."

"Lastly all chantless magic above level 3 will require the power of a Witch."

"Thank you, Fana." You may be seated now

I took a slight bow and returned to my seat.

"Luckily I made it through that. Our teacher sprung that on me so suddenly I was surprised. I was also able to maintain my high image with the rest of the class."

"Fana, please pass out these exam papers please."

"Yes Ma'am!"
