Chapter 90:

On the Run

Museworld

They left all their villain gear at the base. Frankie hadn’t remembered the code to get in there, but Katie did just fine. Back in their normal clothes, Frankie nervously purchased a new pair of simple, nonchalant, black flip-flops from a local store. All the while she was looking over her shoulder, holding the brim of her hat down and shivering at the thought that a cop would catch her.

Oh great, she reflected. Yet another anxiety.

They didn’t bother finding a hotel that afternoon, eager to get out of the park as fast as possible while keeping the money they did earn before everything went up in flames. At least they weren’t broke again, Katie thought… to herself, a little afraid the optimism would be lost on her sister.

Leaving the massive city, not stopping for food, drinks, or anything else unnecessary besides what Frankie now saw as a harrowingly risky shoe purchase, the girls eventually went far enough to wind up in a roadside territory, with no relation to Venge City.

Even here, there was no peace. Frankie perpetually glanced from side to side to make sure nobody was approaching or watching her- thankfully, the only people here in this property seemed to be families. She wasn't sure who owned this run-down place. Small, with ancient-looking attractions and not so much as a single coaster, it was as if the minantire park only existed because someone thought they had the money to fill the empty space that must’ve once been here, one hundred or so years ago.

“Should… we call Umi?” Katie proposed, reminded of her offer by the sight of other drivers passing through the town.

“No…” Frankie suddenly found the grass beneath her quite interesting. “…Let’s not bother her. She doesn’t deserve it.”

“But-“

“…Those guys… we like… really screwed them over, didn’t we…?”

“It wasn’t our fault.”

“Did you see anyone else who made it out?”

Katie tried not to be frustrated with her. But why think like that? There there was no way to know, was there? There wasn’t even a way to have expected any of this to happen in the first place. But as she understood it, sometimes, both of them needed to cry over spilt milk. She only hoped her sister would be okay.

Frankie took out her phone to find out where exactly it was they were inside the Bluegrass State.

“Frankie… I don’t think it’s bad that we messed up. At least… well. Nobody died this time, did they?”

“Uh… wait.” She didn’t turn away from the screen. “What the hell is this?”

“Huh? Something wrong, Frankie?” Katie peered over the girl’s shoulder.

“The Kidney Foundation’s streaming something.”
