Chapter 26:

Like it never happened

Dreams of Reality

A familiar face opened the door. "Come inside. We are waiting for you." I enter the hallway and take my shoes and jacket off. Something smells really nice, but I can't tell what it is.

I am starting to feel strange. I never thought about what her parents looked like. These thoughts start to mess up my brain while she guides me through the hallway to the kitchen.
Or dining room. How can I know? It's not going to be the only thing I will find out in just seconds. When we made it there, I was four plates and her parents already sitting.

They really were her parents. You could tell by how similar they looked to Shara, especially her mother, who had the same hair color. We greeted each other, and I sat at the table with them. That's when I noticed what was on the plate. A pizza. "It's homemade. You might think that it looks ordinary, but trust me; my mom does the best pizza ever. I could eat it for the rest of my life."

She said before I could even think of a comment about the food. Not that I wanted to say anything. "It really looks delicious"

"And tastes even better," her mom said and smiled at me.

With that and best wishes for a good appetite, we all started eating.
"So... How did you two meet?" from that question, I got a feeling that her mother has misunderstood the situation a little bit.

"You are from the same class right?"

"Yea..."

She didn't tell them anything about me? Not like she knows a lot, but they ask where we met like we are both in our twenties and I am hoping to get a yes from her father. I thought it was obvious that we are from the same class, but I guess it isn't for everyone. My parents have a general idea of who I am attending school.

"The first thing he said to me was if we met before. To this day I don't know what to think about that" she giggled a bit.

"Was it that weird? I asked you because I saw you twice a week before you started going to school here. I think we even talked once."

"Whoever that was, definitely not me."

"Yea, probably. I don't really care about it now."

"You really talk about strange things. I always thought that my daughter had a unique appearance. Everyone always recognized her"

"I didn't mean it that way. I don't get this thing myself. I know that it sounds stupid but at that time, I just had to ask. To ease my mind or something like that."

"That is understandable."

"Is the food to your liking?" the father said.

"Absolutely, I don't think I had pizza this good in a long time." I overexaggerated my answer a bit to clear the air a bit.

From one sentence I can tell that Shara's father is the type not to say much. The mysterious type. He asked me when we all had our plates almost empty, so if I didn't like it, he wouldn't be able to do anything about it. But I really did. The food was what made the time well spent. I don't know. I didn't like the atmosphere there I guess. But it was okay. I don't know what I was expecting to be honest. After that, it was more like they were talking to each other, not with me that much.

I can't complain, though. Those questions earlier were exhausting to answer. When we finished eating, we all said goodbye to each other and after that Shara accompanied me to the doors. "See you at school"

"See you too" and I went home. It could have been worse so I am not complaining. But this will be stuck in my head for a while at least.
