Azure Flame and Escape

"Forces!!! Stand your ground!!!"

Troops from our army begin to flood outside the walls, preparing to clash with the purple eyes soldiers approaching our fortress.

"Everyone get out there!!!" The guards are screaming at us. I catch Emerald in the crowd holding her bow and running out there. I can't quite reach her. All I can do is enter the battlefield myself, sword in hand and gun on my hip.

I run out there, and am instantly greeted by the blood soaked grass, individual battles going on between soldiers.

An enemy attempts to strike me in the back with an overhead axe blow, but I notice just in time and block it with my sword horizontally. His axe clashes with my sword but he continues to force it closer to me. This guy's strong as shit, and I don't know if I can hold his axe back much longer. Just when I feel the strength in my arms about to give in, the man is hit in the shoulder by a flying arrow, which set's him off his balance. I take this opportunity to push him off me, and stab him through the chest. He falls to the ground, bleeding out.

I've never had the biggest problem with killing people if they're against me. That's just how my dad raised me. He's a ruthless monster hunter who shows no mercy to anybody he's fighting, so it makes sense i'm the same way.

I look to see who shot the arrow that saved me, and I see Emerald standing about 15 feet away from me, hand on her bow. I have no time to talk, so I give her a quick nod of appreciation and return to the battle. A group of 4 soldiers are approaching me but I just stand and wait. I hold out my right hand a little to the side, and bring it forward. My god-given power emerges from my hand.

My arcana.

Azure blue flames emerge from my fingertips, engulfing the enemies, fire so hot it can turn anybody to ash in an instance. 

"Disintegrate." I say.

Nothing remains of the soldiers who were once there. I'm attacked yet again, but I jump out of the way and pounce back for a slice to the throat.

Weak.

I see Emerald jumping swiftly around the battlefield, shooting off arrows at various soldiers. I notice it seems she's purposely aiming her arrows at non-lethal spots, clearly just trying to incapacitate them.

She's heading right for a specific soldier that looks much bigger than the rest. She jumps up into the air and pulls back one of her arrows, preparing to shoot. A glowing, green energy begins to form around the arrow, and she fires. The green arrow flies towards the soldier at supersonic speed, shattering his armour on impact and piercing through his chest. Emerald's arcana? I'll ask her about it later.

The chaos ensues, and I continue to fight back against anyone who attacks me. Suddenly, Saffire jumps onto the battlefield from behind the walls. As she's in the air, two giant, glowing purple clenching fists materialize around her hands. She lands on the ground and delivers a powerful punch to the nearest enemy, sending him up into the air. She continues to beat on every opponent near her.

I got a good break from the fighting so I jump back into the battle, but something catches my eye. Emerald is being surrounded by 3 soldiers. There's nothing she can do because they all have massive, rectangular shields with spears and are closing in on her. I also notice that their eyes aren't purple like the other soldiers in Kamikaze's army, but I ignore that for now.

I sprint over to Emerald at full speed and jump on top of one of their shields. I pull out my pistol and point it at the first soldiers face, so it's only about 1 centimetre away.

"Fuck you!" I say.

*BANG*

I fire the bullet right into the eyehole of his helmet. He falls to the ground, lifeless. I jump off the shield and stab the next soldier 3 times in the stomach and fire off another bullet at his head. For the final one, all I do is grab his throat and slam him into the ground. Emerald helps me pin him down.

"So, who are you?" I ask the question that's been on my mind. These soldiers clearly weren't like the rest.

"Just kill me." Is all he says.

I slam him down a bit harder and heat up my hand with my ability. 

"Why Emerald? You're clearly after her." I say to him.

He spits in my face.

"Fuck you.'' He says.

Emerald jams an arrow through his foot.

"You should talk." She says.

"Fuck! You little bitch! I'll kill you!" He yells at her.

Suddenly, a giant hammer slams into the soldier, killing him instantly. I turn around to see General Klein walking closer. He holds out his hand and his hammer comes right back to him.

"Link. I thought you knew how I felt about demi-humans before joining my army. And you have the audacity to bring one right to me." He says to me. Emerald flinches a little bit.

"...What?" I can't properly comprehend what he's saying.

"So... those soldiers... were yours..?" I ask him.

"It would've been so much easier if you just let them do their jobs. Now I have to bloody my hammer myself." He replies in a dark tone.

"You... did this? And you killed your own soldier?" I say. Emerald inches behind me a little bit.

He ignores my question.

"How about this. If you kill her yourself, i'll lighten up your punishment a little. You know what, i'll even completely free you of punishment." He says.

"What the... fuck?" Is all I can say.

"Draw your blade." He says.

...

"I'm not... killing Emerald." I say.

He shakes his head in disappointment.

"That's fine, that's fine. I'll take that as you accepting your punishment. I'll just kill her myself." He begins to walk closer, trying to get a good angle on Emerald.

"No!" I yell.

"...Excuse me?" He asks.

"Get the fuck away from her you bastard!" I grab Emerald by the arm and begin running away.

"Get your ass back here Link!!!" Klein throws his hammer at us. It flies through the air and we jump out of the way just in time. We make it to a cliff on the edge of the mountain. Klein chases after us.

"Shit! Emerald, are you okay!?!" I ask her. She looks at me and nods.

"Goddammit!!!" I yell out.

Klein makes it over to us, and he's got a group of his soldiers with him too to corner us.

"Just because you're my good friends son doesn't mean I can't break every bone in your body." Klein looks furious.

Emerald has been staring down the cliff for a while now.

"Turn her in now Link and I won't be forced to kill you." Klein says.

"...Fuck off." I say.

"...Link." Emerald whispers to me.

"Yeah?" I say, still not turning my back to Klein.

"...If we jump on top of the trees down there we could probably land safely." She says.

I look down for a split second to observe, then look back to Klein.

"Do you know what you're doing?" I ask her.

"...I think so. Grab my hand." She says.

I grab her hand, preparing to jump.

"I'll give you to the count of 3 Link. 1...2...3." Klein says.

On 3 me and Emerald jump off the cliff, aiming for the treetops.

"What!?!" Klein yells out before disappearing from our sight.

Emerald grabs ahold of one of them branches of the tree with one hand, still holding on to me with the other, and we fall safely to the ground.

"We gotta run!" I say to her, and we both run as fast as we can out of the forest.

"Shit! What did we just do?!? They're gonna be searching for us now!" I say.

"Thank you..." Emerald says, looking at the ground.

I'm taken aback by this, and I stop.

"I shouldn't have forced you to take me with you to the castle. If I just stayed, none of this would've happened." She explains.

I walk up to her and put my hand on her head, her fox ears wiggle.

"I mean, what's done is done. You made your choice, I made mine. Don't worry about it, we'll figure something out." I try to give her a reassuring smile.

Her face is in awe, and her cheeks turn slightly red but she quickly composes herself.

"I'm the one who came to protect YOU, yet you've saved me multiple times today already. It's my turn now." She smiles.

Come to think of it, I think this is the first time i've seen her smile. 

"There's this village a little to the east which is a popular meeting spot for rebellion forces. I think that would be a good place to go if you want." She says.

"The rebellion, huh. Yeah, sure! We can't have someone like Klein becoming king. Someone like Kamikaze who brainwashes his men wouldn't be good either. The only thing that leaves is opposing both." I say.

"I agree." Emerald says.

"Off to the village then! You lead the way!" I say optimistically. 

She smiles and we begin our journey to the rebellion village, set on killing General Klein.
