Chapter 7:

Rebellion and Mission

Arcana

"We've been walking for like 3 hourssssss, when will we be there!" My feet are starting to get sore from all this walking. I'm exhausted.

"Soon." Emerald says.

"You said that an hour ago!" I say.

"It's not like I can estimate the exact distance." Emerald defends herself.

"Fine, fine. Oh, Right! I've been meaning to ask about your arcana. I saw it in action in the fight." I've always been pretty curious about different arcanas so I ask her about it.

"Oh. What do you wanna know?" We talk while walking.

"Well, what's it called? What does it do? What are its limits?" I'm asking all the questions I have.

"Oh, ummm. It's called Energy Arrow. It pretty much allows me to form a glowing green energy around my arrows which supercharges them, making them faster and more powerful. Its limits, uhhhhh. I never really thought about it." Emerald explains.

"Woah! Sounds useful!" I look at her in awe.

"Huh? Oh, yeah I guess." She looks away.

Some people are born with pretty damn useless arcanas, which have almost no practical use, so Emerald's arcana seems like it'll be pretty useful for us down the road.

"What about you?" She asks.

"Huh?" That surprises me.

"Your arcana. I noticed yours too." She says.

"Oh, right! I call it Azure Flame! It's pretty straight forward. I can create a blue flame at will and control it." I say.

"Oh, interesting." Emerald says.

"Mhm!" I'm pretty proud of my arcana. I'd meant to ask Saffire about her arcana too after the battle but that'll clearly be difficult now.

Finally, after ages of walking, a village starts to come into view.

"Oh! Oh! Is that it!?!" I get excited.

"I think so." Emerald replies.

It's a pretty generic looking village, with houses in rows on either side of a dirt road. It looks like there are some shops and facilities there also.

"You stay here. I'll go in and get you a change of clothes." Emerald says to me.

"Huh? A change of clothes?" I ask.

"Well, the rebellion probably won't take too kindly to someone in a uniform from General Klein's army. They never gave me a uniform there so I can go in without a problem. I'll be back soon." She says.

"Oh! Yeah I get it. I'll be right here!" I say.

She nods and enters the village, leaving me standing here outside the wooden gates. While i'm waiting, I follow around a cool blue butterfly that caught my attention. Butterflies always piqued my interest so whenever I see one I can't help but stalk it.

"Hey, you!" I hear a voice.

I look up and see what looks to be a little boy approaching me. He has dirty blond hair and is wearing a brown, leather vest.

"What's wrong? Are you lost?" I say in a concerned tone.

"Wha- Lost?!?" He looks taken aback.

"Do you want me to help you find your mommy?" I say to him.

"Mommy?!? Who do you think you're talking to?!? I'm 19 years old!" His face gets red.

What?!? Older than me? But his body's so small.

"Are you a dwarf?" I ask.

"A dwarf?!? Watch your mouth! I am NOT a dwarf!"

"But you look like a child..." I'm confused.

"Can you drop it! I don't wanna hear it from someone who works for Klein!" He yells, face still red.

"Klein? Oh, no I quit. I'm just here looking for work here in the rebellion." I say to him.

"Sure! Klein's soldiers are big liars! You're probably here to take the villagers here in!" He points at me.

"What!?! No! I'm telling the truth!" I yell back.

"You better get out of here right now or I'll- I'll beat you up!" He says.

"Beat me up?!?" I yell.

"Yeah! So scram!" He yells at me.

"You can't beat me up! You're just a kid!" I mean, seriously. What does he think's gonna happen if he attacks me.

"I told you, I'm 19! AAAAAAAAAAAH!!!" He runs at me, pulling back his fist.

When he gets to me, I use my hand to push back his head, and use my left foot to trip him. I then slam him into the ground with the hand that was on his head. He looks dazed.

"Ughh." He moans.

"Haha! I win! I told you!" I point at him as he's on the ground. Another victory for me.

"I leave you alone for 10 minutes and you're already beating up children?"

Shit.

I turn around and see Emerald staring at me, looking unimpressed.

"Actually, he's older than me, so I'm not a child beater." I defend myself.

The boy still looks too dazed to say anything.

"Well, whatever. Put these on behind a tree or something and come with me into the village." She hands me a raggedy old white t-shirt and some black pants.

"I have to wear these?" I ask.

"There's a tailor in the village so you only need to wear that until we can get our own clothes." She says.

"Fine, okay." I go behind a tree and get changed. The clothes are oversized and barely fit me, but I decide to deal with it until we get to the tailor.

As I'm going through the gate to the village, I take one last look at the boy on the ground. I consider going over to him to check if he's okay, but I decide it's his problem he attacked me and he'll be fine.

Me and Emerald walk along the dirt road in the village until we come across the tailor shop she told me about.

"In here?" I ask.

"Yep." Emerald replies.

We walk inside the shop. The store is made of wood with a wooden desk facing the entrance. Standing at the desk is a tall man in a brown suit, with black hair and glasses.

"Why, hello there guests! Welcome to Marley's Tailor Shop! My name is Marley! How can I be of service today?" The man has a friendly voice, and it sounds like he's used to public speaking.

Emerald looks at me. I guess she wants me to talk for us.

"We're here for some custom outfits if you can." I say.

"Oh, of course! Special outfits are more expensive then our items we have on hand however, and will take a bit more time. Is that fine by you?" Marley asks.

I look at Emerald and she nods.

"Brilliant! I'll have you both come into the back room one at a time to get fitted and give me your special requests." He says.

"I'll go first then." I say.

"Right this way sir!" He says and leads me into the back room, where he takes out a measuring tape and begins taking my measurements.

"So, what kind of outfit are you looking for?" He asks while measuring.

"Hmmmm. Oh! I've had this idea in my head for a while now." I say.

"Please do tell!" He says enthusiastically.

---

"Oh, Emerald. Are you done?" I ask Emerald as she's walking out of the back room.

"Yes." She says.

"So, what kind of outfit did you ask for?" I ask her curiously.

"Something simple." She says.

"Oh, right, right." I say.

I'm excited to see how my outfit turns out.

We wait for about 2 hours when Marley finally comes out of the room.

"I am complete!" He announces.

"Oh, let me try it on!" I say, starry eyed.

"One at a time. one a time! I'll let the girl try hers on first." He hands Emerald a folded up outfit that looks like it's made out of a grey fabric.

When she exits the changing room, she's wearing what looks to be a short, hooded robe, which is grey and somewhat wavy.

"Woahhhhhh!" I stare.

She looks away. "Your turn."

"Oh, right! My turn!" Marley hands me my outfit and I enter the changing room.

When I exit, I'm not disappointed.

I'm wearing a long, black fabric trench coat that goes down to my calves, with silver linings and a hood. You can see my black shirt underneath and I'm wearing black boots. To top it all off, a silver, circular metal helmet with horns going upwards. I'm not wearing the helmet yet because I notice it has no eyeholes, or even any holes at all. The helmet is completely faceless.

"So, how is it?" Marley asks me.

"I love it. Quick question. How am I gonna see through this helmet?" I ask.

"I knew you'd ask that! Great question! The helmet is made out of a special steel that is owned by the Oni race. Nobody knows what it's called, but if the helmet breaks, it will reform itself, and when you wear it, you can see right through, despite the lack of eyeholes." He explains.

"No way." I put the helmet on my head.

He was right. I can see right through. I see Emerald in her grey robe, and Marley smiling at me.

"Holy shit." I say.

"You like?" He asks.

"I love." I say.

"Perfect! Now! That will be 30 gold pieces!" He says.

"What!?! Fuck, I'm gonna be broke." I pull out my gold pouch and fetch the 30 gold coins, leaving me with only 10 more.

"Pleasure doing business with you!" He calls out as we leave the store.

"My money..." I pout.

"You two done in there?" A voice emerges from beside me. It's slightly deep, with a sense of duty.

I turn around and see a man with brown hair, in what looks to be a bullet proof vest, with a white undershirt.

"Who're you?" I ask.

"Oh, did the girl not tell you? My name is Commander Hardy, I'm the commander for Squad C in the rebellion. Your friend there approached me looking for work a couple hours back and I said I have a mission for you two." He says.

"Wait, really?" I ask and turn to Emerald. She nods.

"Yep. I'll give you two the details as we walk. Follow me." Hardy says.

We tag along behind him as he leads us out of the village.

"So, here's the deal. Just north of here there's a snowy mountain where we believe has one of Kamikaze's endurance boosters." He explains.

"Endurance booster? What's that?" I ask him.

"It's like a serum that when shot into the bloodstream, highly boosts the physical capabilities of the one who ingested it. Your job is to go onto that mountain, and take the endurance booster for the rebellion. This is a very important job, because if it stays in Kamikaze's hands, there's no telling how dangerous that could be for us." He says.

"Alright, got it. You can leave it to us, right Emerald?" I turn to her.

"Sure." She says.

"Perfect. At the base of the mountain, there will be a rebellion tent waiting for you, belonging to Squad G. They'll give you more details if you have any questions. They know you're coming. I'll be waiting at a dirt battlefield to the south. Once the endurance booster is in your hands, I want you and Squad G to come to me at the battlefield. There's an important battle between Klein's and Kamikaze's armies that we plan to intercept. Good luck, don't fuck it up." He explains.

"We got this." I say.

"I'll see you soon." Hardy says before walking south.

He pretty much already led us to the mountain so the tent is already in sight.

"You ready?" I ask Emerald.

"Mhm." She replies.

"Alright, let's go." I say before we head towards the tent, to our first mission in the rebellion.
