Chapter 107:

Evidence

Museworld

Jack awoke, tied down to a coaster cart with taser wire and crimson line rope from just outside the lobby. The “idiots,” the four he failed to kill, were standing over him like he was an ant.

“Hey.” Mary interrogated. “Uh, delete all the footage on the cameras please?”

“Huh…?” Coming to his senses, the world still made no sense to him. “Wh… why? Isn’t that… your evidence?”

He spotted the gun in Conrad’s hand. Pointed at the floor, technically harmless- but there.

“It’d make for an easier time getting you locked up, sure.” The armed man confirmed. “But… I’m thinking the unregistered cybernetics under your skin will do that just fine.”

Jack shivered with fear. He didn’t want to look pathetic, so he converted it into a laugh.

“HeHeheh… but then… why? I don’t get it… don’t you want the cops seeing your sad little debate process?”

“We’ve got our reasons.”

Jack eyed up his captors.

“You… one of you… is like me, yeah?”

He laughed some more.

“There’s a criminal in your midst… who just doesn’t wanna get caught. I get it.”

Conrad stirred impatiently for his answer.

“Yeah. Yeah, I’ll do it for ya. Doesn’t matter to me anyway. I just want you to stay up in bed tonight knowing someone like me is still out there.”

“None of us are anything like you.” Frankie looked down at his crazed expression.

In a pop, the cameras across the ride burst with sparks. Systems fried, nothing was left to be recovered.

“It’s a job well done. You can take my word for that.”

“Thank you.” Mary said. She was the only one who still would.

Jack laughed at the sisters as they walked out.

“Oh… so it was those two? I get it.”

“Don’t bother saying anything about them to the cops.” Conrad worked up the nerve to point the gun vaguely in Jack’s general direction before quickly aiming it back on the floor. He laughed again for the hundredth time.

“Like they’d even believe me if I did.”
