Chapter 7:

Morning Mischief

Fangs and Facades

As they woke up to the sound of their alarm clock, Yuna stretched her arms while Mika rubbed her eyes.

"Good morning, Mika," Yuna said, her voice steady and composed. "Let's get ready for the day."

"Okay, but can we snooze for a few more minutes? Pretty please?" Mika whined, still groggy from sleep.

Yuna sighed, but relented. "Sure, but we have to get up, eventually. We don't want to be late for class."

After a few more minutes of dozing off, Yuna and Mika got out of bed and headed to the bathroom, which they shared with the other students on their floor, to brush their teeth and wash their faces.

Mika wrinkled her nose in disgust as she turned on the faucet. "Ugh, someone used up all the hot water again. This sucks."

"It's all right, Mika," Yuna said, her voice reassuring. "We'll just have to wake up earlier tomorrow."

Mika eagerly searched through her closet, excited to put together an outfit that would make her stand out. She had always been one to push the boundaries of the school dress code, and today was no exception. After a few minutes of deliberation, she decided on a short-sleeved white blouse with a sailor-style collar, but instead of a tie, she opted for a bold red kerchief that she tied loosely around her neck. Her pleated black skirt was a daring choice, a few inches shorter than what was allowed, but Mika didn’t care. She slipped on a pair of white ankle socks that showed off just enough of her legs to make a statement and topped off the look with a pair of sleek black loafers. Mika knew she looked amazing and couldn’t wait to show off her style to everyone at school.

Yuna watched her sister twirl around in front of the mirror, admiring her outfit. “Mika, don’t you think that skirt is a little too short for school? And those socks are not part of the dress code,” she said with concern.

Mika scoffed. “Don’t be such a worrywart, Yuna. This outfit is going to turn heads and make me stand out.”

Yuna shook her head. “I don’t want you getting into trouble with the school authorities, Mika. And besides, the uniform is comfortable and practical.”

Mika gave her sister a playful shove. “You’re such a stick in the mud, Yuna. Why don’t you ever have any fun?”

“I have fun in my own way,” Yuna replied with a smile. “And I don’t need to break the rules to do it.”

Mika sighed dramatically. “Well, suit yourself. But you’re missing out on all the excitement.”

Yuna just chuckled, used to her sister’s antics. As they headed to the kitchen for breakfast, Yuna offered Mika some toast and scrambled eggs.

“Thanks, Yuna. You’re the best,” Mika said with a smile, feeling grateful for her sister’s practicality and kindness. As they ate their breakfast, they chatted with the other students in the kitchen and caught up on the latest gossip.

Everyone was talking about the disappearances and murders around town. Some rumors even circulated, suggesting that a serial killer may be responsible for the recent incidents.

One girl who seemed particularly interested asked if anyone knew anything unusual that happened last night. Several others replied saying they heard screams coming from the direction of Shiroiwa Beach and also saw strange figures lurking near there. One person mentioned seeing a car parked nearby. Another claimed he witnessed a couple being chased down the road by shadowy creatures. All of them swore they weren't joking, though none had proof. Rumors tend to run rampant when people hear things without solid information.

"Things are getting crazy, right?" Mika asked.

"Definitely," another student remarked. "I wonder what's going on."

There were several theories floating around regarding what caused the deaths, including alien abduction, demons, and monsters. Nobody could agree on one explanation.

It was time to go to classes. Mika and Yuna had Science this morning.

"Yuna, do we have to go... can't we just skip and find something fun!?" Mika pleaded as she held onto her bag tighter.

Yuna shook her head sadly. "No, Mika. We have to attend class every day. If we miss too many days, it will affect our grades."
