Chapter 111:

It is Easier to Imagine the End of the World

“Don’t tell me I’m done already.”

For Dr. Arrow, even the most comfortable room in the world wasn’t enough to soothe his old and aching mind. However, if there was such a room, this was, undoubtedly, it. The crimson seats and large wall of one-way glass let you look out to the entirety of Kidneyland, as you did your best to relax in front of he who could most accurately be considered as the god of the modern world.

“I wouldn’t dream of letting someone of your caliber slip away.”

Arrow wasn’t afraid of Kidney, though. Unlike most people, his presence even slightly calmed him.

“You keep me busy, I’ll stay as long as you like.”

“Then you’ll stay forever. It just wouldn’t make sense… a fellow like you falling asleep.”

“Not even I can perform those modifications.”

“Would you like to learn?”

Arrow grumbled, rubbing his wrinkled upper lip.

“Jury’s out. Can’t say how I’d feel giving up a reliable escape route.”

“You’ll give it up for both our sakes. Like I said, it’s nonsense.”

Arrow sighed.

“Alright… but. Don’t be giving up on me. I don’t expect to be pampered… but I need work. Lots of it. Forever. With that guarantee… then, maybe. Maybe I could stick around.”

“I’ll introduce you to the Foundation once my games have concluded.”

“Fine, then.” Arrow leaned back. “Come to think… has anyone shown?”

“Naturally. The competitions are only just beginning, but Bozo is such a tenacious young man. He’s driving them along near single-handedly.”

“And when is it that the entertainment’s showing up?”

“As for the ones you worked on, have patience. I want to wait for the most exciting moment. In his case… god only knows.”

“He will come, though.”

“I’ve no doubt. The man is practically in love with me.”

“Must be a hell of a power trip… though I’m sure you’re used to it. His wife must be jealous.”

Kidney softly laughed.

“He’ll be here. And when he is, that’s even more eyes on my star creation.”

“The one up there?”

“You catch on quick.”

The doctor shuffled in his seat. He had nothing left to ask.

“I’ve prepared another private hotel for you. You won’t have to worry about staff, either.”

“Gotta thank you again, sir… you might be the one good employer I’ve had.”

“Be seeing you soon… don’t you let me down.”

“Won’t.”

Arrow walked towards the expensively engraved wooden double doors he came in from.

“Oh. Don’t bother. Take the one on the floor, will you? It’ll be quicker, not to mention… more private.”

“Oh. Uh, thank you.”

Dr. Arrow stepped towards the trapdoor.
