Chapter 16:

Playing with Fire

Fangs and Facades

As the twins walked home and night fell, there was a subtle almost imperceptible change. The darkness came out of the girls their skin grew pale and their eyes changed to a deep red.

"The bitch is getting nosey Yuna..." Mika said, her tone growing angry.

"Don't talk about her like that!" Yuna snapped.

Mika turned to her sister, her eyes burning with a dangerous fire. "Why not?" she hissed. "She's getting too close. She could ruin everything!"

Yuna shook her head, her own eyes starting to glow with a fierce intensity. "We can't just go around hurting people," she said firmly. "We have to control ourselves."

Mika sneered, her fangs glinting in the moonlight. "You're always so weak," she spat. "Always so concerned with being human. But we're not human anymore, Yuna. We're vampires."

Yuna's eyes narrowed, a cold fury rising within her. "I'm not weak," she said, her voice low and dangerous. "I just don't want to hurt innocent people."

Mika laughed, a cruel and bitter sound. "Innocent? There's no such thing, Yuna. They're all just food to us. And we need to feed to survive."

Yuna felt a wave of nausea wash over her. She knew that her sister was right, but she couldn't bring herself to accept it. Not completely.

"We can't just go around killing people," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

Mika stepped closer, her eyes blazing with an almost feral intensity. "We have to," she said. "It's the only way to survive."

Yuna felt a sense of dread settle in her stomach. She knew that she had to do something, but she didn't know what.

"We have to talk to Saori," she said finally. "Maybe she can help us."

Mika scoffed, her lip curling in contempt. "Help us? She's a vampire hunter, Yuna. She'll kill us if she finds out what we are."

Yuna shook her head, feeling a sense of desperation building inside her. "We have to try," she said. "We can't keep living like this."

Mika hesitated, her expression conflicted. Yuna could see the struggle within her sister, the battle between her vampire instincts and her human morality.

"Fine," Mika said finally. "But if she tries anything, I won't hesitate to kill her."

For the first time in her life Yuna struck her sister. "You'll keep your hands to yourself," she snarled.

Mika recoiled from the blow, stunned and shocked by her sudden attack. She stared at Yuna with wide eyes, unable to comprehend what had happened.

They stood in silence for several minutes until Mika recovered enough to speak. Her eyes burned with anger and resentment, but she held her tongue. After a moment she spoke again, her words tinged with sadness.

"Yuna, I know you like this girl. But she's a hunter, one day she's going to figure out the truth. What will happen when that happens?"

Yuna bit down hard on her lower lip, trying to hide her emotions behind a mask of cool indifference. "Let's worry about that later," she said softly.

"You know.... we could use her to our advantage though..." Mika trailed off, thinking carefully before continuing.

Yuna sighed, knowing that Mika was right. But it still wasn't something that she wanted to consider.

"Do you really want another fight?" Yuna asked quietly.

"No, think about it. We know where she's looking, and if we work with her we can get an idea of how to cover our tracks. That way we can avoid any suspicion or unwanted attention."

Yuna frowned. "That doesn't feel right."

Mika shrugged indifferently. "Who cares? The other option is death. Do you really want that?"

Yuna closed her eyes, taking a deep breath. Mika was right; there was nothing left to choose. "All right," she said reluctantly.

Yuna and Mika walked to the edge of town, deep into the forest. They knew that the forest was the perfect place to hunt without arousing suspicion.

As they walked through the dense undergrowth, they scanned the area for any signs of human activity. They had to be careful not to leave any traces behind. They had picked up enough information from Saori to know what to look for.

After walking for a while, they came across a small clearing. There was a woman there, sitting on a rock and staring out into the forest. She looked like the perfect target.

The twins approached her, their eyes glowing with hunger. The woman looked up, startled by their sudden appearance. She tried to stand up, but Yuna pushed her back down onto the rock.

"Shh," Yuna whispered, putting a finger to her lips. "We're not going to hurt you. We just need a little bit of your blood."

The woman's eyes widened in fear, but before she could say anything, Mika grabbed her from behind, covering her mouth with a hand. She sank her fangs into the woman's neck, drawing out her life force.

Yuna watched in silent hunger, waiting for her turn. When Mika was finished, she stepped forward and sunk her own fangs into the woman's flesh. The taste of blood filled her mouth, and she felt her strength returning.

They drank their fill, careful not to take too much. They didn't want to kill the woman, just weaken her enough to make it look like a bear attack.

When they were finished, they laid the woman down on the ground and began to tear at her clothes. They needed to make it look like a bear attack, so they scratched and tore at her flesh with their nails, making sure to leave marks that would look like claw marks.

As the twins worked to cover up their tracks, they heard a rustling in the bushes nearby. They froze, their senses on high alert. A second later, two bears emerged from the brush, drawn to the scent of blood and death.

"Whoa, this is crazy!" Mika said, a wide grin spreading across her face. "Actual bears showed up! This is perfect!"

Yuna rolled her eyes, trying to keep a level head amidst Mika's excitement. "Just focus on the plan," she said firmly.

Yuna nodded in agreement, relieved that they wouldn't have to do any more work. They watched as the bears tore into the woman's body, tearing it apart with powerful jaws and razor-sharp claws. It was a brutal and violent scene, but it was exactly what they needed to cover up their tracks.

Once the bears had finished their meal and wandered off, the twins took one last look at the woman's torn and bloodied body before disappearing into the night. They knew that they had to be more careful in the future, but for now, they were satisfied with what they had accomplished. They had fed and covered up their tracks, and no one would ever know what really happened in that forest.
