Chapter 21:

Epilogue

C.A.N. Collector

"I can't believe he just threw his life away like that!" Codea said.

Her and Milo were sitting in Mr. Pipp's office. She was still trying to process the events from a few days before. Milo seemed to be doing the same.

"The kid had so much potential, but he was just too reckless." Pipp said.

"He didn't have to jump on that plane. I mean sure, the C.A.N. might have gotten out of the city, but there had to be another way."

"I know how you feel. We can sit around here thinking about what could have been done differently, but there's no going back in time. What's done is done.

Both Milo and Codea teared up a bit. The two of them in their own ways had grown fond of R.C. in the past few weeks.

"But-," Codea said.

*SLAM*

The door of Pipp's office suddenly was thrown open... R.C. walked in. He was covered in dirt and algae. He tossed something on Pipp's desk.

"I want my pay, old man!" He said.

Everyone's mouths hung open.

"What are you all staring at me for?"

"How the hell are you alive?" Codea said.

"Ha, you actually thought a plane crash could kill me?"

"Still though, how? Milo and I saw the plane crash into the ocean. According to the governments agents, the wreck sank too deep to retrieve any remains. Everyone was certain you were dead."

"Alright I'll tell you what really happened. After that engine exploded I had to manually 'land' (crash) the plane, so it didn't end up flying into a building or something.

I managed to aim it towards the ocean. As it was descending, I found one of those huge inflatable emergency rafts that can fit like twenty people. Right before it touched down, I inflated in the back of the cargo hold and opened the back ramp. Baja and I jumped in and managed to fall out the back into the water unharmed.

The only problem was it took us like three days to paddle to shore. It was a total pain in the ass."

"I'm happy that you made it. We were essentially in the process of mourning you... By the way, what did you just put on my desk?" Pipp said.

"Oh yeah I forgot to mention, those government agents are liars. They knew I was alive the whole time. I'm pretty sure they have a tracker or something implanted in me because they picked me up as soon as I reached the shore. They were probably afraid I'd try to fake my death and flee the city... Which I'll admit did cross my mind.

They essentially forced Baja and I into a blacked out van and brought us here. I was handed this and told it was my reward for a job well done."

On the desk lay a mangled green metal plate with a scuffed up Mr. Dew logo on it.

"Alright enough chit chat. I didn't just paddle a raft for three days for nothing. I want my money."

Pipp laughed.

"Alright R.C., we'll head over to the front counter in a bit. I'll even make sure you get extra for all your trouble."

"Sounds good to me."

Milo and Codea both looked as if they were about to cry tears of joy.

"You idiot, you better not do anything that reckless again."

Milo signed something to her.

"Yeah I was thinking the same thing."

"What's he saying?"

"We were just wondering if you were going to keep hunting C.A.N.s with us or if this was going to be it for you?"

R.C. grinned.

"I don't think I really have a choice. Until those asses on the board decide to leave me alone, I think I'm stuck doing this for a while."

Everyone was happy to have R.C. back. Milo, Codea, and Pipp went with R.C. to get his money paid out to him. After that they all went to get lunch.
