Chapter 26:

Rising Suspicion

Fangs and Facades

Saori walked into the school, her eyes blazing with determination. Armed with evidence of the recent attacks, she marched to the administration office, demanding that they take her claims more seriously.

As she entered the Superintendent's office, she found Satsuki sitting behind her desk, her expression tense.

"Superintendent Amora," Saori began, "these recent attacks are evidence of something far more sinister at play. We need to take action, and I have a plan."

Satsuki looked up, her eyes filled with a mixture of fear and anger. "Saori, I've told you before, I will not entertain this nonsense any longer. You're using this tragedy to your advantage, and it's unacceptable."

Yuna and Mika, who had accompanied Saori, stepped forward, defending their friend.

"Superintendent, we're not trying to take advantage of anything," Yuna insisted. "We genuinely believe there's a connection between these attacks and what happened at the school."

Mika chimed in, "We have to do something. We can't just sit back and let this continue."

Satsuki shook her head, her voice firm. "Enough! I won't discuss this any further."

Saori, sensing that something was amiss, narrowed her eyes. "Superintendent, why are you so against even considering our theory?"

Satsuki's expression faltered for a moment, but she quickly regained her composure. "You're just kids meddling in things you don't understand. This conversation is over. And Saori, I've heard about you and Yuna being girlfriends. Don't you have better things to do than spread ridiculous rumors?"

As they left the office, Saori couldn't shake the feeling that the Superintendent was hiding something. She decided that she would keep a close eye on Satsuki from then on.

Later that day, Saori met with the student council, who had heard about her plan and were eager to listen.

"Saori, we've been hearing about your theory, and we wanna know more," the student council president, Akira, said, her expression serious. "We can't ignore the possibility that something more is going on."

Saori nodded, grateful for their support. "Thanks, Akira. My friends and I have been investigating the incidents at school and the recent attacks. We think they're connected and maybe even related to a vampire."

The council members exchanged nervous glances, the weight of the situation settling in.

"What do you think we should do?" one member, Rina, asked, her voice wavering.

Saori laid out her plan. "We need to up the security measures around the school, and maybe even get local cops involved. We also gotta look into the Superintendent's actions. She's been acting super sketchy, and I think she's hiding something."

The student council members listened intently, absorbing the information.

"We'll back you up any way we can, Saori," Akira declared, determination in her eyes. "We gotta protect our school and our fellow students."

As the meeting came to a close, Saori, Yuna, and Mika knew that they were on the brink of a significant discovery. The truth was within reach, and they would stop at nothing to bring it to light.

Saori couldn't shake the feeling of dread that had settled in her heart. The thought of Yuna, the person she loved most in the world, being in danger was unbearable. She knew she had to do everything in her power to keep her safe.

Late that evening, in the privacy of the workshop, Saori confronted Yuna about her fears.

"Yuna, I-I can't stand the thought of you getting hurt in all of this," Saori stammered, her voice trembling. "I don't know what I'd do without you."

Yuna, touched by Saori's concern, tried to reassure her. "Saori, I appreciate your concern, but we're in this together. We're a team, remember?"

Just then, Mika entered the workshop, smirking as she observed the intense exchange. "Geez, you two are so dramatic," she teased, rolling her eyes.

Saori, on edge from her fear, snapped at Mika. "This isn't the time for jokes, Mika! We're dealing with a serious situation here!"

Mika frowned, her tone becoming defensive. "Hey, I'm just trying to lighten the mood. No need to bite my head off!"

Yuna intervened, her voice firm but calm. "Alright, both of you, enough. We need to focus on the issue at hand."

Saori took a deep breath and then suggested, "We should consider moving into the workshop for a while. It's already got all our equipment, and it's more secure than our homes."

Yuna's eyes widened, and she began to stammer, "A-are you s-sure, Saori? Th-that's a big step."

Saori nodded, her expression resolute. "I'm sure. It's the best way to ensure our safety while we continue to investigate. We need to be close to our resources and have a defensible location."

Mika chimed in, her tone more serious this time. "I think Saori's right. We need to be proactive about our safety."

Yuna finally agreed, a solemn expression on her face. "A-alright, let's do it. We'll m-move into the workshop and face this t-together."

The trio began preparing the workshop as their temporary home, setting up sleeping arrangements and organizing their investigation materials. Mika couldn't resist making a cheeky remark. "Hey, since you two are so close, maybe we only need two beds!" she joked with a wink.

Despite the tense atmosphere, the three friends were more determined than ever to protect one another and uncover the truth.
