Chapter 2:

The Unknown World

Bullet Knight: A Mercenary's Journey to Another World

Imperial Capital City of Alteria.

Imperial Palace.

Kazuki observed his surroundings astonishingly, the first thing he saw above was a frescoed ceiling to his front was a humanoid statue of a man. Depicting a valiant person who’s the ruler of a kingdom. The ceiling above contains grassy fields, lakes, mountains and towns, and a group of people who are wielding a weapon on each hand. It was an amazing art piece, an astonishing piece. But Kazuki felt uneasy about the frescoes, which he doesn’t express about what’s going on in the painting.

After surveying the area he found a hallway; the hallway is pretty big, as he realised that the building is made out of polished marble. Chandeliers in every ceiling of each room; the building is very majestic. There were state-of-the-art designs that it would take a skilled architect to pull it off. Kazuki was speechless of the building’s design is like they travelled back from time he continued exploring the hallways and rooms, as he realised that he is inside of a Palace, he decided to take a look at the window, and as he look at the view he saw the houses and buildings surrounding the Palace; he then kept peaking. Kazuki made an impression on his face; it’s like that one manga that I read.

It seemed that they were located at the middle part of the building, which is located at the ground floor of the building where the ceiling reached as high as twenty feet. Kazuki looked around, he could only see his classmates with the same expression as he did.

As he turned around to watch, and as expected, Akari’s confused state was there. She was unharmed so Kazuki felt relieved.

In search of an explanation, a group of people were wearing robes. It's like they were attending a ritual or a summoning. Kazuki and his classmates were not the only ones who were inside the palace, some of them looked like high class mages who can cast high tier magic, they were concerned about why they disappeared from their world but Kazuki was stunting out of excitement he didn't mind about it.

“I can’t believe it, I’m in another world, this is a dream come true. I want to go on an adventure, Oh yes I’m fired up!”

Among the group is a man in his thirties took a step forward in front of Kazuki’s classmates, he was wearing a dark blue robe on his right arm he’s holding a book that contains magic spells, we was different from the other people who were wearing black robes, he’s eyes are sharp as ever and gave a charismatic aura around him, However he was in-charge of the ritual chant that brought Kazuki and his classmates to their world.

“Welcome to the country of Heisen, Saviour-sama, we have expected your arrival. Please rest assured and be welcomed.”

“My name is Gnaus Vilmo Alaeus, the sole Regency of this Nation.”

After he introduced himself before them, he’s called Gnaus the Regent of this Empire. He is responsible for conducting the summoning.

After their introduction with one another, they settled to go meet with the Emperor as they made their way there, servants and maids gathered and gave them passage as they passed through a palace door. When they arrived at their destination, Imperial guards escorted them to the Throne room. Kazuki’s classmates bowed before the Emperor and addressed their reason on why they are here and what’s their purpose here.

“All of you are summoned here to ask for your assistance on the devastating catastrophe the Demons have done.”

“Although you will be given Field training so that you can defend yourselves from imminent danger. My Name is Theodor Baulio Xanthone IX. May God bless your journey.”

“You’ll be rewarded handsomely at each party.”

They decided among themselves regarding the Emperor’s offer; most of them agreed to fight and to be under field training, while few of them opposed the offer as they see it’s dangerous for them.

Daichi, who is a class president, stood up, raised his arm high as he was making an edict, and spoke to his classmates encouraging them to participate in this catastrophic event. Willing to help the empire in repelling the wave of Demons, at this very moment his charismatic leadership and his position as class president finally took effect. Everyone looked at Daichi with sparkling eyes. The students who felt stuck in this world and had no hope chose to look up to him. Their only chance to return to their world.

“If you put it like that, It would be foolish for you to go alone.”

“Kaito…”

“Yeah I think I would follow them as well, I can’t sit here doing nothing count me in.”

“Ehh!?”

“If Aiya joins then I’ll join too.”

“Akari…”

They argue amongst themselves, whoever tries to take the upper hand during the heated argument. They've decided that there is no other choice but to accept the offer.

After hesitating to look for a better option, they agreed to make their move, Kazuki's classmates agreed to the Emperor’s request at the time that He accepted their reply, and the Imperial court prepared a banquet. Before them is a table that fills the entire room, a fireplace to cover the entire area with good lighting musicians playing, servants and maids preparing different kinds of cuisine to serve to their Saviours.

Little that they know, the place where Kazuki was heading, escorted by the Emperor’s personal guard, he saw a hall room filled with tables as long as ten metres lined up side by side, chairs organised in every corner of the dining table, candles lit in each sector. Kazuki was astonished by the decoration of the dining tables. Even a commoner can identify how well made the furniture was; it must be a skilled artisan who made this luxurious furniture; the decorative paintings, the murals, everything inside the hall room was an artisan masterpiece. In the seat of honour is where Kazuki and his classmates were seated; in the seat of honour were Saitou Ichika-sensei, Daichi s group, and Akari and Kazuki at the very last.

At that time, a group of maids entered with pushing carts. Without a doubt these are real mansions serving maids, real ones. These were genuine maids, every man’s desire to look at them with lustful desires. Male students shifted their focus to those maids. Just as the male students looked spurred, burning their desires. However, the girls felt uncomfortable and took their leave immediately.

Kazuki as well shared the same expression with the other male students when the girls were pushing their carts. but at the same moment, Akari was fixing gaze on Kazuki with a smile from ear to ear, but Kazuki also gave her a smile as well.

Emperor Theodor explains the situation on the front against the Demons.

To put it like this, Humankind has been waging war with the Demons for a very long time now, the Demonic forces have conducted endless raiding on Villages, Towns, and Cities; in addition, Beastmen and Elves aided the Humans on their war against the Demons but after all these centuries their assistance became weaker and weaker overtime. Although the Demons were terrifying and merciless, they were also outnumbered compared to their counterparts, but in the latter years, the demonic front went silent for thirty years.

Heisen is a country located on the north, bordering Dronstadt from the west. Heisen is an autocratic nation ruled by an Emperor, the Xanthone Dynasty has been the face and the body of the Empire during its founding. Heisen suffered much during their conquest of the nearby countries surrounding them. Not to mention Theocracy, religion is the biggest influence in comparison to social and military prowess. Trade and commerce is one of the main sources of income for the Empire that covers half of the country's Treasury. It is why Heisen is a developed country compared to other countries. Agriculture is Heisen's important resource; without it a country cannot function nor prosper.

The Sacred Paladins are the guardians of the Theocracy, making up to 50% or 64% of the military. Their duties as the guardians of the Theocracy played an important role in cutting down people who are allied with the Demonic League. The Paladins are exceptional in combat, they are an elite detachment of Heisen's military, they've seen combat against the Demonic League and have fought courageously against them. As a frontliner of the catalytic wave of Demons, the Paladins are hailed as their hero and well respected by other Knights. Holding a precedent reputation.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just like Kazuki's previous world. Religion runs the entire country; even the royal family itself gives copious amounts of support. The one who's responsible behind the summoning was the clergy of this country. The country itself worships Nerthus as their god; the state church intervenes in any way; that being said, there are more than 88% of people who worship Nerthus and it's also the dominant religion of the empire.
Whatever the true source of this feudalistic share of power, the Church also made plans during the war with the Demons centuries ago. Although the Demons were outnumbered and outgunned by the vast scale numbers and technological advantage by the Humans, the Demons were using vassals, a contract of powerful beasts that were used in the ancient era as a weapon. The Demons revived these powerful magical monsters and used them against the Humans.
"Go forth, the forces of evil shall not prevail, Heroes, Be blessed by the Goddess as she will guide you on your journey. I shall send my warmest regards for your success in defeating the Demons, may the Goddess of Nerthus bless you."
Gnaus currently had an absent mind expression, perhaps he was recalling time when he heard about the prophecy. Regarding the Church, just as Theodor explained, the state Church heavily influenced the Empire from military intervention and in commerce.
The continent were divided into five halves, Heisen at the west of the area where Humans and Demi-Humans live together in harmony Dronstadt at the east is a Demi-Human dominant country unlike Heisen, Dronstadt have stricter clearance when entering or resettling in the country, Nroilan is an Elf dominant country they live and settle on the north of the continent although comparing two major countries neighbouring Nroilan, from the west and east they have a small settlement like small towns and villages dark elves were also associated with them, centuries ago they used to collaborated with the Demons on planning to exterminate Humankind but until the front suddenly went quiet. The Dragonborn race were located in the northeast of the continent; they lived in more of a remote place; the Dragonborn were rather isolated from the continent; most of their kin were difficult to find. They settled in the highlands.
And lastly the Demonic race, located at the very south of the known continent, whoever tries to go to the southern part of the continent never came back. To their families considering the area restricted and dangerous.
Among these, wars between the Humans and Demons have been ongoing for centuries. That is why the Demons are in bad shape. When the gods intervene to save humanity from extinction, the Demonic forces fall back to their territory. They have been unable to expand their territory for many years now.
Everyone was chatting casually with each other enjoying themselves as the dusk of night began they talked about their plans on how to get back to their world. Students who have lost hope, feel stuck in this world. Kazuki recalls back to his past life looking around his surroundings he realises that era of this world is mediaeval-ish theme. An RPG type of setting that’s settled in the mediaeval period.
(This feels like a game but with actual living people, I bet dying here is just like in real life once you’re dead you don’t respawn.)
I continue gazing around the hallroom as I observe my classmates were in a worried state. But some of my classmates did not show any signs of their worries, they were eager to help their world from extermination.
My thoughts are equivalent to their eagerness to fight for this world.
Among them, one person stood up to protest against Gnaus’ Decision.
It was Ichika-sensei
“You can’t be serious, why are you letting these kids participate in a war!? Their just students' war is not a good place for them. That is out of the question, even I, as their teacher, will I not allow such a thing! Let us return to our world immediately!”
Ichika-sensei who was panting in anger. She was only 22 years old, she was very popular with the students. Her average body was approximately 5.5 feet, she had a pretty and elegant face, and her hair was medium length. The students can’t refrain from smiling awkwardly. She wishes to protect her students whenever they need help even though her efforts were futile in the end. She doesn’t like getting teased from her students, but by making her embarrassed in front of other people she gets mad easily.
“I… I understand your concern, but however… you cannot go back.
A complete silence filled the hall. It was like there was an ice cold pressure pulling everyone down, as everyone in the hall room gazed at Gnaus with a query expression.
“Impossible… What did you just say? If you can summon us, then you should have the spell to send us back!?"
Ichika cried out desperately.
"Unfortunately, our high tier casters have used a very valuable spell to summon all of you in one place. But the summoning only happens once in a lifetime. Therefore, whether or not you can return to your old word, is up to Nerthus to decide."
"Th- this… can't be…"
Ichika-sensei lost her strength and slumped down to her chair and got a cold shiver.
The students who were listening began making a commotion.
"What do you mean we can't return to our world? That's absurd!"
"That's wild speculation, anything but this sends us back to our world!"
"We're stuck here forever!?"
"Oh god why, why, why now…"
The students started to panic. On the other road Kazuki wasn't affected by it, only because he is an otaku. He had read many situations like this before. He anticipated many patterns but this was not the worst that could happen,he was a lot calmer than the other students, he always wanted to dream of a scenario like this.
Kazuki explains the situation to himself.
After all the discussions on the said situation, I already made my decision to stay in this world and explore every part of it.
After a brief chat, the banquet was over, me and my classmates thanked the palace servants for their kind hospitality. We were then escorted to our rooms to spend the night there. Gnaus said he'll assign Knights to begin their training for the upcoming sortie. A noble servant presented me with a bedroom that has two beds, one on each part. As I entered my chosen room I quickly snuggled myself in.
"Whoa this bed feels so comfy, It feels so warm and cosy i never see anything like it."
"Hmm, I wonder who will be using the other bed?"
As soon as I enjoyed myself, such a coincidence happened just at that time Akari opened the door and she left an awkward facial expression realising we were going to live with the two of us inside this room. I can't believe the girl who is interested in me is also my roommate.
"Huh? What a surprise Kazuki-kun"
"I didn't know we're sharing rooms with each other."
I felt a little uncomfortable as she was beside me but I wouldn't mind as long as I have company I wouldn't be lonely inside this confined room. I look around trying to cut the mood of absolute silence. Akari looked at me with a warm smile.
Nightfall began, Akari and I were getting ready for bed. I stared at the wall behind until I fell asleep.
A new day is ahead of us,
Tomorrow will be the time I start my adventure.
Morning has risen. I woke up preparing for the training later on today,but… I'm not sleepy at all. That's because I was excited to know what my adventure class is.
"Good morning Kazuki-kun, hmm? Still sleepy? Well get going we'll be heading to the barracks later on."
Said Akari from beside me as she's about to go out.
