Chapter 3:

Class, Jobs, Upgrades, Perks

Bullet Knight: A Mercenary's Journey to Another World

After they disappeared from their old world, Kazuki’s classmates were summoned to an unknown world that was filled with magic. An ancient-medieval-themed world. And they were tasked to fend off the Demon horde from bringing destruction to the continent during a briefing of the current situation, together with the Emperor on what’s happening in the country with the conflict between the Demonic League.

Well since everyone agreed to fight, the students were given a three-day training teaching themselves how to fight. Although even if they have good potential and skills, they would realize that they were only regular Japanese students who do not know combat or experience.

However, the parties who are involved in the Imperial hierarchy were the members of the elite and have connections with the state church and its plans. But with these connections, a triumvirate was unofficially established with the members of the Emperor’s cabinet.

The students walked towards the front gate of the church as they were walking to the entrance hallway where a monument of the past heroes was established. And the shrine was the Goddess Nerthus. The church was located at the center of the Capital city during their visit they were greeted by the Pope and its clergy. Inside the church, there were many old prophets of the known world, and how this world was created. Before them is an altar that grants a Class boost after they reach a max level, many of Kazuki's classmates do not know much about it.

The Cathedral is a large, ornate church that is a central place of worship for the city. It is designed to be grand and imposing, representing the power of the church. The church is decorated with sculptures and murals, which depict stories from the prophetic scripture of Nerthus and other important events in religious history. It has a large congregation, which can be seen praying and listening to sermons on weekends.

"Welcome to god's temple, Hero-sama"

The Pope Greeted Kazuki's party.

My classmates looked at the Pope giving a certain expression.

The Pope was named Phocas and he is in charge of running the Church. He is wearing a white robe and a mitre hat giving recognition that he is indeed the Pope. On many occasions, the church gave unconditional support to the royal family of Heisen until today the people still have faith in their god and its leader.

As they conclude their conversation, they've walked their way to the gate and as the Hero's party, sent word to the Emperor that they are ready for their first training.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hello, my name is Fujioka Kazuki, a high school student. Currently, my classmates are heading to the knights' barracks to acquire our jobs as an adventurer.
Order of the Krutzov Knights.
Barracks.
After I entered the building we were greeted by a group of knights as they escorted us to the training field.
"Good Day, members of the Heroes party."
An unknown knight greeted us when we arrived.
"I am the Head Chief of the Krutzov Knights, my Name is Bartolomeo, my utmost gratitude to you all."
The Knight who greeted us is Igran, he is the instructor and leader of the Krutzov Order of Knighthood. He was ordered by the Emperor himself to train the Hero’s party on his behalf. He is wearing a segmented armour that is covered by steel plates connected with a leather strap, under his heavily equipped armour is a purple tunic, a precise colour that was used by the Krutzov Knights. On his right arm, is a 45-68 cm short sword good with thrusting and stabbing at his left arm is a shield which measured two and a half feet in width and four feet in length. They are identified as heavy units in Heisen’s Army.
“Alright! Listen up, each one of you hasn't noticed an icon in your peripheral vision?”
(Well I do see a mysterious icon in my vision, I thought it was just my consciousness tricking me.)
“An Icon? I don’t see any.”
“If you look at the bottom you might see it”
“At… the bottom…? Ahh found it”
Name: Fujioka Kazuki
Age: 17 years old
Level: 1
Class: Mercenary
Power: 10
Resistance: 5
Recovery: 10
Dexterity: 10
After Kazuki saw his status he couldn’t help but feel like a video game character. The other students look at their status seriously.
Bartolomeo explains the stats system to Kazuki’s classmates.
“Alright, did everyone see their status? To reach a new level you must train yourselves, your stats can be raised by training. The maximum level for Humans is Level 110 but when reaching level 40 or 60 above you can visit the Cathedral to enhance your class so that you can level up further as you want this is also called “Class Advancement”. As I said once you’ve reached the max level, you have reached the fullest potential of human beings. It is rare for anybody to reach that level.”
Unlike video games, levelling up doesn’t make your status grow.
“So again, you can raise your status by training, the fastest way to increase your status is making a sortie in the Labyrinth. A labyrinth is a dangerous place where monsters are twice as strong as any entity on the surface"
"Okay that's settled everyone, please choose your preferred armour and weaponry based on your designated jobs. Each job has different kinds of weapons but just to be sure, only carry the stuff that you can handle on your journey to the labyrinth."
From what the Head Knight said killing monsters and demons does not guarantee your stats will go up, from what he said stats can only increase through practice and field experience.
"Next we are gonna discuss "class" Class is your currently the talent you have class can't be chosen directly from you but the classification of each is automated, although you can choose different classes once you have reached level 60 also called "subclass" each subclass is a backup for your main class been assigned to you. So make sure all of you make it!"
Kazuki carefully looked at his status. Surely his class is a "Mercenary" The mercenary class is either a double-edged sword that can be used for others or for personal gain as being said. Kazuki couldn't contain the excitement on his face as he looked at his class category.
"Woah my class is a Mercenary. I cannot believe I got a stroke of luck on my side."
Kazuki dumbfoundedly made such an odd expression after seeing his status.
"So let's see everyone's stats. For example, any average person can get a chance of having either a level 10 or 1 but depending on the physical and mental capabilities of your nature there's also a chance you can reach higher than 20."
Name: Adachihara Daichi
Age: 18 years old
Level: 50
Class: Guardian
Power: 100
Resistance: 60
Recovery: 100
Dexterity: 80
"Level 50 as expected for a Guard class, you have incredible Strength Hero-sama"
I simply watch my classmates as they burst with excitement after revealing their class. Everyone in the group has a stronger class, higher levels and stronger armour. And I, the weakest of the group, have nothing to do but watch and feel desolate.
“Oi Kazuki-san, are you going to fight like that?”
"You have the weakest stats and possibly have the weakest class too, if you want to survive why don't you sit this one out."
A random classmate approached me and threw foul language and demotivating words towards me.
And that random classmate is no other than Nakamura, Nakamura continues to tease Kazuki non-stop.
Daichi throws an arm around Kazuki’s shoulder, but this makes him uncomfortable. If you look around him, many of the boys grin at his misfortune.
"Hey hey no need there's no need to quarrel amongst yourselves."
"Kazuki, I will protect you from here and now you don't need to get hard on yourself just depend on me, see I don't have a combat class but a support class."
Akari comforts Kazuki and makes him feel better.
But while she continues to comfort me I still feel devastated by it. Everyone has stronger classes while I have the weakest class at the party.
"All right, everyone has their class and levels. Why don't we test our skills by slaying monsters outside Heizen."
"Roger That!"
Everyone responded in unison.
Before they began levelling up, Kazuki and his classmates were called back to the throne room. As they talked about the Party system and how it would work perfectly.
"Before anything else, any of you must volunteer or choose a candidate to be a Party leader since there are Twenty-four of you, you may not travel together since it will disrupt the stats and the levelling of your classes. Without further ado, Heroes! You may begin."
"I Adachihara Daichi shall volunteer to be this Party's leader!"
"I'll join your party"
"Me too"
"Let's create a perfect team guys, I'm in."
One by one they flocked to Daichi's party. Half of the students chose his party as they saw he is the most powerful within the group.
"Yo Emperor, I want to volunteer to create my party."
Kazuki volunteered alone as he knew no one wanted to join his party.
"I deeply apologise for your concern but can you see that most of your comrades joined the Guardian's party."
Kazuki felt a little bit disappointed because the request was utterly rejected.
He has no choice but to join Daichi's party.
"Kazuki-san, don't hold us back, okay?"
"Yeah don't die early loser."
He again ignored their meddling as he prepared himself for the upcoming sortie.
He walked his way to the Palace Library and gained knowledge about the world.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Palace Library.

Second floor.

The library is filled with rows of bookshelves, full of books about all sorts of topics. The shelves are arranged in a way that allows for easy access to the books, and the library is lit with soft warm light, making it a peaceful place to read. The library is also very quiet, with the only sounds being the faint rustle of pages and the voices of the other readers. The library has a very calm, scholarly atmosphere, and is a great place to learn about the history and culture of the kingdom.

“It looks like I have the whole day to myself. Let’s read some books about the past, we could find valuable information about this world.”

Kazuki decided to spend his time reading instead of doing anything else. He went to the front desk and asked if he could borrow a book.

“Yes but please return them before the end of the day. Here is a key, I hope you enjoy your stay.”

“Thank you, I will.”

“Please take care, sir.”

After getting permission to borrow a book, Kazuki moved towards a table near the window in the corner of the library. He sat down and took out the book entitled “ History of the Empire of Heisen”.

“This book is quite thick but I guess that it contains information about the past of the Empire.”

“Yeees…”

The book was indeed huge and heavy, but Kazuki continued to read on without putting it away. His eyes scanned over the letters on the page as he read the contents written in it.

“The Empire of Heisen was founded by Emperor Haveris, who was the third son of King Heisen. Before he became King he was known to the people as ‘the Hero’ due to his strength. He then led his army against the demons that invaded the kingdom. After conquering the demon lands and defeating them, he unified the country under his rule. The kingdom of Heisen is divided into three regions. The Upper Kingdom is located in the northern part of the kingdom, the middle kingdom is the centre region and the Lower Kingdom is the southernmost region of the kingdom. The land is rich with resources and fertile ground, so the citizens of Heisen are among the richest on the continent. Heisen is a country blessed with many natural wonders and beautiful landscapes, and its capital city is named after the soldier king ‘Alteria’ King Alteria was said to have been a wise and just ruler, as well as an excellent strategist. He died peacefully in his sleep while still young, leaving behind a legacy of peace and prosperity to his people. But unfortunately…”

Kazuki stopped reading when he got to the part where the author wrote about King Haveris.

“King Haveris’ reign was marked by peace and prosperity, however, he had a dark secret that he kept hidden from his people. He was a demon lord!”

Kazuki put the book aside and stood up from his seat.

“This… This can’t be true.”

Kazuki carefully walks towards the hallway as he is disturbed by the true identity of this conflict. As he arrived at his room he kept thinking about the dark side of Heisen’s history.

“Before anyone finds out about all of this, now I know the truth about this country. I need to get strong, get as much experience as possible and level up my stats.”

Kazuki talks to himself as he gazes at the ceiling.”

“I will get out of here alive… and return to my world.
