Chapter 14:

False gate I

Hacker Class

Asanda Nkosi was a person who worked for the South African Rangers Association. His job involved assisting rangers who were about to enter a dungeon or rangers who were leaving it. He would provide coffee or water to those entering and he would do the same for those leaving, he would also help the wounded in the case for some reason the healer was delayed in healing them. His job required him to do many things, all of which he did perfectly. Today was a different day though, and Asanda witnessed some strange things. He witnessed both the best and the worst trainees in Durban, both of them were in the same party and were currently entering the dungeon gate. Light McKing was born into a prestigious family that was well-known for producing the best Rangers. As for the other boy, although he was a nobody, word about him had spread through the world of the Rangers, and he was already well known for being Durban's first F-rank in 2 whole years. It was like seeing light and dark at the same time. Excellence and mediocrity. Talent and incompetence. Asanda thought it made sense why the association had placed the two of them in the same party. As Asanda walked over to join his friends at the tent set up near the portal, something strange happened. A loud noise came from the portal and a crack appeared in the middle of it. The crack revealed some sort of dark space within and as soon as this occurred, plenty of officials began to panic and make calls. Asanda ran to his experienced colleague, who seemed just as worried as the rest of the people. "What's going on, man?" Asanda asked. His colleague looked at him, his eyes full of fear and worry, "It's a false gate, meaning that this gate is a higher-ranked gate than it first appeared." Asanda looked at the phenomenon before him and thought to himself, "McKing will probably survive, as for that F-ranked boy...Poor him." ~~~ Alden and his entered the dungeon, they were all in their given positions. As soon as they entered the dungeon, The portal behind them closed and Alden turned and watched it disappear. "Wait, ah man! It's a False Gate!" Their leader nearly shouted in distress. He was the Tanker and he had a massive shield which he used to block attacks. The trainees present began to panic and the leader had to calm everyone down. Alden instead focused on checking out what the dungeon looked like. The Dungeon was a wide and spacious cave, it had many pathways and if one ventured deep enough, they would find some type of monsters there. Get into formation, and let us focus on surviving!" The leader said to everyone. The formation had broken apart when everyone panicked and now the leader could only try to restore order. "Formation? What formation? You already know what we have to do before we focus on things like formation. You have to weed out the weak ones, that's the first step to surviving," Light McKing finally spoke out, he spoke arrogantly and directly addressed the leader. He was not wrong. Everyone had already checked what dungeon they had landed in and it was a B-grade dungeon. It was called the [BULL ORCS CAVE]. Bull orcs were a race of orcs who were known for having long horns. They were barbaric monsters who loved fighting. They were known for annihilating a large number of Rangers and to clear their dungeon, B and C ranks had to enter their dungeon. The only way to get to the real world was to kill the boss of the dungeon and having anyone below a C-grade in the party would greatly slow down progress and since they weren't well equipped to survive for a great amount of time, they had to make sacrifices. "Light McKing, You know we can't do that," The leader said, his eyes on Light. "We should listen to him," Alden spoke up. He decided that for himself, it was the best course of action. He also knew that besides the pathway in the cave leading to the Boss of the dungeon, all the other pathways had weak orcs so he predicted that he would be able to survive in those dungeons. However, going with the main group meant he had to fight very powerful orcs, and he could not show his true powers, which he would need to fight those powerful monsters. Furthermore, the group was going to head to kill the boss, whether it was with or without the weaklings. So his best bet was to join the weak group and fight weak orcs. Plus if everyone else died he could fight at full power so that would benefit him too. So all he could focus on was his survival. "What do you mean!?" A boy with a sword in his hand asked, worry evident on his face. "If we join the main team, we have a high chance of dying since they will be fighting stronger orcs. Do you understand?" Alden didn't understand how he was speaking though. Ever since the video incident he had found it difficult to interact with others, he would stutter several times or forget what he was saying. That was what the anxiety and trauma did to him but... now he was speaking so confidently, he didn't know how. Suddenly Alden felt something hit him, he felt a sharp pain in his ribs as he flew back, into the wall of the cave. As he struggled to breathe, he raised his head to see that before him, levitating in the air, was Light. There was a whirling green mass of energy around him and it seemed to be supporting and allowing him to fly. "Sorry, I just heard a bug and it kind of annoyed me. But yeah, you heard this F-ranked bug, if you are C-ranked and above, come with me. We have to eliminate the boss," Light said, his arms folded, his expression stoic. Those C-ranked and above all quickly joined Light, all of them not wanting to anger Light. Why? Alden knew why. He was a monster. He was the definition of strength, the true symbol of power. Before him, all rules were bent and he was the ultimate law. That was power.
