Chapter 1:

Flowers

where nothing began

I reached a beautiful land full of flowers. May I say, as pretty as she was. But, there is no civilization here, none at all. Will just have to do it myself, make something on my own. Duffy smiled gently and moved on to make something, maybe like a hut, where he could rest for a while.

He started to collect some wood for his house. While doing that, he realized that the colorful and beautiful vegetation was very gentle. Even with just a bit of force, it could be tucked from the ground leaving no trace of it ever existing. It was like the plants had no roots. Furthermore, if a long stick were to be swayed over the place, there would have been no trace of the vegetation whatsoever, it would all fall effortlessly.

The journey of a human child begins with limitless imagination, but as they grow and mature, they realize that there are two paths to take - the right one and the wrong one. With each stumble and fall, they learn to build walls and guard themselves from the painful and uncontrollable aspects of being human. For all that, imagine a world where the predators of individuality and judgment did not exist - a world where the flowers bloom freely without the need for roots to anchor them down, a world untouched by the wind.

The land that Duffy stumbled upon was certainly perfect. The flowers never had to adapt to anything, every plant had enough space to take their share of nutrients from the soil, the temperature was just right, all the plants received enough sunlight and no weeds were backing them down.

The barren land that remained after the absence of vegetation was so lifeless and ugly, it reminded Duffy of his own heart a bit, but from a normal person's perspective, the heart was very lively, and the ugly part could be debated upon.

Duffy began making his house out of flowers. Making a house was an easy task after all; he saw it on TV, the guys always made it before the show's runtime, 30 minutes was over. After 4 hours, Duffy came to terms with living beside a rock for the rest of his life.
