Chapter 32:

The Plan

How Not to Be a Medium

Zoey was trying to conspire with me for the noble cause of a gift for Camilla. It saved me a lot of worries because there were two occasions that day. My sweetheart's birthday and our anniversary.

"Do you have any idea?" she asked bluntly when I became a wooden figure and sat in her bedroom.

"I don't know what would be of adequate value," I replied, reluctantly admitting my blankness.

"Luckily you have me!" The artist clapped happily. "You just need to help me carry out my plan."

"And your plan is..."

"Your portrait!"

Zoey said it like it was the most obvious thing in the world. It wasn't for me, but I understood what she meant. Camilla often complained about the lack of physical evidence of our relationship. Although she tried not to show it, I saw how she looked longingly at the photos of her friends in love, which they shared on social media.

Maybe that would also partly solve the problem of guys constantly trying to talk to her. I wasn't surprised by them, after all, Camilla was a beautiful young woman. They made sure that there were no contraindications such as a wedding ring, or wallpaper on the phone, and when she announced to the potentially interested partners that she was taken, they dismissed it with laughter. Of course, I tried to get rid of them, but I couldn't do anything other than trip them up or make them shudder. Besides, she didn't approve of it either, but there were times when she'd punch a few of the stubborn ones in the face when she'd had enough.

"How are you going to do it without her knowing?" I asked worriedly.

"That's the problem because I would have to see you, but I can't. It wouldn't be the same if you had described yourself to me."

Zoey sighed heavily, resting her head dramatically in her hands. We sat in silence for a while, but then an idea occurred to me, but I wasn't sure if my friend would accept it because she was jealous of this person at times.

"Maybe Lucretia could help us? Camilla told you about her."

"I haven't met her personally." Zoey looked at me suspiciously.

"We figured something out to get you in touch with her," I said, assuming my idea was brilliant.

"Actually, just look at Camilla's list of friends on social media would be enough."

"See how easy it is! Contact her right away!"

"Tristan..." Zoey was still unsure. "I have some doubts about her powers."

"You don't have such problems with Camilla," I murmured.

She stared at me with narrowed eyes, as if she was about to attack at any moment, grab my little wooden, temporary body, and start throwing it in all directions. I guess she thought I was on Lucretia's side, I liked her and was glad Camilla had another close person. Zoey, however, seemed to prefer to remain her only and most important friend.

"After all, I am talking to you," she said finally. "But if you're sure about it, let's try it."
