Chapter 1:

30 Days

Ai's Last Wish

There's this girl named Ai Kyouka. At least, that's what her fans call her. Her real name is Mai Torimori, and she's a v-tuber from the company MetaLive. She joined the company MetaLive after its establishment, making her one of the first members.

Most of her fans don't know her actual face. To them, she just looked like an anime girl with long pink hair and red eyes. She wears a white jacket over a black shirt and bright red headphones on her neck. But in reality, her appearance couldn't be any further. She looks just like your usual nerd girl, with long black hair, and glasses, the usual, except for her red eyes which were the same color as her avatar's. People didn't bother to talk to her at college. She didn't seem like the same lively person she did when streaming. They probably wouldn't even believe that she was a popular v-tuber if she went and said it aloud.

It's been a year since she joined the company. Ai has gained over a million followers on B-tube, a popular streaming site. Her fans always pick on her for her hot temper when playing games. They playfully make fun of Ai, but she loved her fans. She's collaborated with and met many creative people all over the site. MetaLive also grew larger, so she had more workmates and friends. There were now 12 of them in the company. It was small, but they all had a great time. It was perfect...

"...You're dying."

As soon as she heard those words, her eyes widened with shock. The room seemed to be imploding and she felt like she was being sucked into a vortex. She was shocked beyond belief when she was told that her life was going to end soon. Ai's mind became overwhelmed with a sudden influx of thoughts.

According to the doctor, she has an extremely rare and fatal life-threatening illness. She was often overfatigued, which seems to be the reason. Most people didn't survive this illness. Her fate seemed sealed; there was no hope of survival.

"There has to be a way for her to live, right?"

The person who raised the question was MetaLive's CEO, Yamamoto Suzuki. She was the one who recruited Ai back when MetaLive had just started. Being the CEO, she was always wearing a suit. Kyouka has been under her care ever since. She proposed that they visit the doctor. She said she was looking worse for wear, so that's why they're here.

The doctor said that there was surgery for it, but it could be useless. She could take the surgery but the survival rate was less than 10 percent. And even if she survived the process, there could be severe consequences.

Ai's expected to die in a month. 30 days left to decide whether she should take the surgery or give up her life. In the meantime, the doctor advised her not to overexert herself as doing so could make the situation worse.

The idol and the CEO both left the hospital feeling defeated. It seemed like there was nothing they could do to stop her death.

"I'm sorry, Mai. This is all my fault. I pushed you too far."

"No, Suzuki-san. Please don't blame yourself."

Suzuki felt responsible for what happened to Ai. The company had just started when she was hired, and no one knew who they were. Wanting to make it known in all of Japan, Ai started to stream every day. Whether it was weekdays or weekends, she would spend around 2 to 5 hours straight streaming. Every time she came back from school, she would stream until nighttime. Suzuki would ask her to take a break once in a while, but Kyouka proceeded to continue doing it. She decided to not take any breaks. Maybe that's why she got sick. Streaming took over her life but because of that, MetaLive grew up to where it is now. Ai made the company global at the cost of her life.

In the end, they both decided that the best option, for now, was Ai retiring from her v-tubing activities at the end of the week. Suzuki called the others and told them to meet at his office.

Obviously, Ai wasn't the only one she hired at the start of the company. There were 6 girls who were all recruited around the same time she was. Their group was called the Legends. To some, it sounded cringy, but to them, it seemed like the perfect name.

Suzuki drove them to the company's studio. It wasn't large, but it was enough to keep the company alive. When they entered the building, there were no people in the lounge. Only the receptionist was at the entrance.

"Welcome back, Boss."

She was Ayane Mayumi, the only receptionist in the company. Being a receptionist, her looks represented the company. Like Suzuki, she had a suit on and her dark blue hair was tied in a ponytail.

"Hey, we're back. Are the others here yet?"

"Yes. There at your office."

"Thanks." Mayumi bowed in response.

They climbed up the stairs and passed a couple of rooms before making it to Suzuki's office. The door had a plaque which read "CEO's Office".

Suzuki opened the door. Five people were sitting down on the couch.

"I see that you're all here."

She looked at the five girls. They all looked the same age, but they all looked different. They were the remaining members of the Legends.

"You took too long, Boss." The girl who complained was Kiryuu Ayaka. Her avatar looked like a red dragon with wings while wearing a maid costume. Her personality felt intimidating, but in reality, she was just a regular girl with blonde hair, and her real name was Kirari Tenshi. Although she was a normal girl, she always dressed flashy like a gyaru, so most get intimidated just by looking at her.

"Give 'em some slack, Kirarin." The one who called her by that name was Tanuki Shiro- real name, Amano Miyuki. Her avatar was a white raccoon girl and her real hair matched that color. She may seem elegant but she's always had a habit of making words sound funny or nicknaming others, which was why she called her "Kirarin". Kirara didn't seem bothered by it since the group was all used to it. She's always looking for a shortcut in games and hates puzzles.

"It's been a while, Boss." She was Akuma Erisu. Oddly enough, her internet name was similar to her real one- Arisugawa Mitsuki. She was a demon on the internet, both inside and out, but in reality, she was a complete shut-in. She was always stuck inside her apartment and only goes outside to do important matters. Despite that, she looks to be doing fine.

"I-it's n-nice to s-see you, B-Boss and M-Mai-san. The short girl stuttering was Ichinose Miko- real name, Irina Maeda. Her introverted side was always a sight to behold to her fans. They thought the black-haired shrine maiden was so cute and it wasn't far from the truth. There was just something about her that seemed adorable.

"Hehe, still stuttering, Irina?" The girl who chuckled was Nekomata Sayu- real name Gotou Kiseki. She was the tallest person in the Legends, both on the internet and in real life. Her height was 190cm. She was even taller than Suzuki-san, and her chest was...bountiful, to say the least. That's why, her avatar was a blue dinosaur mascot over her body.

"Good to see you're all doing well." Suzuki finally responded after they were all done.

"So, what's the matter, Boss?" Miyuki asked.

"That's right. It seemed serious." Arisugawa followed. When Suzuki called them, she sounded serious. Arisugawa only comes out of her room when something's important, and it was.

Suzuki sat down behind the desk in front of the couch, while Ai sat beside Tenshi. Suzuki looked serious as she began telling them what happened...
