Chapter 3:

Chapter 3

Gunslinger Drifter

The minion stumbled through the firey castle before arriving in a large throne room. “Y-Your majesty!!!” The minion exclaimed as he started to catch his breath, “I bring news from the Starfruit Kingdom!!!”

“What is it?” The King responded, not turning away from a large window.

“They’ve killed him, sire! They killed Ragnar!!!”

“What?!” The King asked rather enraged as he spun around causing his fiery red eyes to become visible. “That’s impossible! Who killed him?!”

“Some outsider! He killed him without even touching him, sire! What do we do?!”

“There’s only one thing to do,” The King responded, “Prepare the troops, we’re headed to the Starfruit Kingdom.”

In the Starfruit Kingdom, in the mess hall of the palace, Blast sat across from Estallido with his arms folded. The two sat there glaring at each other. Estallido’s eye twitched with annoyance. Blast couldn’t put his finger on it, but he just didn’t seem to like Estallido. Was it his hair? His large weapon? “Now then, Estallido, how was your mission?” Pitaya asked trying to break the tension,

“It was fine,” he responded,

“I see.” She then turned to Blast and asked, “Mr. Blast, how did you sleep? Was the bed comfortable?”

“I slept fine,” Blast said as his glare on Estallido intensified, “Bed was quite comfortable.”

“Ah, I’m glad it was comfortable.”

“So tell me,” Estallido said to Blast, “How’d you do it?”

“Do what?” Blast responded,

“Kill Ragnar? Some of us have been training our whole lives to take him down. You show up one day and take him down with ease. So how’d you do it?”

“With this,” Blast said as he unholstered his gun and slammed it on the table. Estallido scoffed as he looked at the weapon,

“With that tiny thing?! Be serious!”

“I’ll gladly show you how I did it.”

“Are you threatening me?” Estallido asked as he stood up and placed his hands on the table,

“Perhaps,” Blast responded as he too stood up and placed his hands on the table. “Are you feeling threatened?” The two leaned closer to one another as the tension in the air grew stronger. Pitaya sighed,

“If you’re gonna do this, then do it in the sparring hall.”

“Gladly.” The two said in unison as they began to leave. Blast then froze before he spun around and scratched the side of his head. He gave a sheepish grin as he asked,

“Say, Princes, which direction would that be in?”

Pitaya stood up with a sigh as she said, “Alright, come with me.” Blast chuckled as he let Pitaya catch up to him before following after her. As they wandered through the halls he then asked,

“So what’s that dude’s problem anyways?”

“What do you mean?”

“The guy with the sword, what’s his issue?”

“Estallido,” she replied, “He doesn’t really have any issues.”

“He just seems like a bit of an asshole to me.”

She then stopped before turning and grabbing him by the jacket to slam him against the wall. “S-Sorry! I-“

“You don’t know anything about him! If you speak ill of him I’ll have you thrown out of the palace immediately!”

“I-“ he then grinned as he said, “Ah, so that’s it, he’s your boyfriend.”

“Wh-What?! Boyfriend?!” She scoffed as her face turned red, “Of course not! I don’t even have a boyfriend! If anything, Estallido is more like a brother to me!”

“If you say so,” he said with a chuckle,

She growled as she let go of him and turned in the opposite direction with her arms folded. “Honestly, men are unbelievable. Why would you just assume such a thing?”

“I didn’t mean to offend you,” he said as he placed his hand on her shoulder, “It’s just that, on Earth, the only time people get defensive about someone special like that is if they’re dating someone.”

“Oh yeah? Were you ever like that with someone?!” She asked him as she spun to look in his direction. He swallowed heavily. Those eyes! HER eyes!!! Those beautifully warm brown eyes!

“W-Well, uh…n-not exactly, but I-“

She huffed as she said, “Whatever, let’s just get going.” She then continued down the hall before he followed shortly after her. He looked at the back of her head as the two of them walked. He truly didn’t mean to offend her, perhaps he could make it up to her somehow.

After a bit of a walk, the two came to the sparring hall where they met up with Estallido. It was a large and spacious room with various weapons on the walls. Estallido and Blast made their way to the center of the room where they stood across from one another. Estallido dragged his sword along the ground in front of him in a half circle. He then kicked the blade with the side of his foot and swung it onto his shoulders as he got in a fighting stance. Blast swung open his jacket and unholstered his gun before pointing it in Estallido’s direction. The tension between them grew larger and larger.

The two then accelerated towards each other at tremendous speeds! Estallido struck first by swinging his sword rather heavily a few times. Blast grit his teeth as he used the barrel of his gun to quickly deflect the oncoming attacks. The two clashed their weapons once more before Blast was, shockingly, overpowered and thrown back a few feet through the air. Blast rolled on the ground before he sprung up onto his feet. He pointed his gun towards his opponent and squeezed the trigger. Estallido blocked the oncoming bullet with the flat end of his sword, but his eyes widened as he was knocked back and nearly lost his grip on his weapon. “This guy!!! What the hell is that weapon?!?!!” He cursed to himself.

Blast shot a few more times and Estallido blocked two of the bullets before the final one grazed his shoulder. He let out a groan of discomfort as he grabbed onto his bleeding shoulder. Blast ran back a few feet to get more distance between the two of them as he began to fire his gun again. Estallido quickly increased his speed to knock a few bullets away before he sliced one of them in half. Estallido looked around before catching a quick glimpse of Blast as he sat hidden behind one of the pillars that lead to the exit of the room. Blast popped open his gun and quickly reloaded it before he then spun onto his feet. His eyes widened as Estallido had quickly closed the gap between them.

Blast instinctively pulled the trigger, however Estallido quickly moved to the side just barely dodging the bullet. Blast rolled out of the way as Estallido swung his weapon and got it wedged in the side of the pillar. “This guy’s fast! Really fast!!” Blast said to himself as his opponent spun around and swung his weapon towards Blast’s head, “Shit!!!” Blast quickly stepped to the side being barely able to dodge the large blade. The force from the blade caused a large crack to run across the floor of the room and up a wall before curving back down onto the ground. Blast then turned to the slight movement above Estallido’s head. When he removed his weapon from the pillar, it caused the pillar to become unstable so a piece of the ceiling was falling towards his head.

Blast then quickly raised his gun and fired at the piece of falling debris causing it to crumble to pieces just above Estallido’s head. Estallido coughed as the dust from the debris filled his nose and lungs. “What the hell was that?! What were you trying to pull?!”

“You nearly got yourself killed,” Blast responded before he then lowered his gun and pressed the barrel against Estallido’s forehead. His opponent gasped as his eyes widened. The head from the barrel of the gun irritated his skin, however he couldn’t seem to bring himself to move.

“Well? What’re you waiting for?! End it!”

Blast closed his eyes for a moment before reopening them. “Why should I? What good would that do?” He then removed the gun from Estallido’s forehead before he then holstered it. “So tell me, what’s your deal? You don’t even know me, yet when we first met, you tried to kill me. Why?”

He scoffed before responding, “Like I’d tell you!”

“Well, okay then,” he then turned and went to wander off. Estallido fought with himself internally before he sighed and said,

“It’s because you killed Ragnar.”

“Really?” He asked, “What’s so special about that pig?”

“Nothing in particular,” Estallido responded, “However, Princess Pitaya made a royal decree about him. Whoever killed Ragnar would be the person who she’d marry.” He scoffed as he swung his sword over his back and said, “Having known her since childhood, I figured if I pushed myself to my limits and even beyond, I’d eventually become strong enough to get the deed done.”

“I see,” Blast responded, “And have you ever considered just telling her how you feel? Not only that, but have you considered her feelings?”

“I planned on telling her when I killed that damn monster.”

“Makes sense,” he then turned to Estallido and said, “Honestly, I don’t understand why she’d just shallowly up and marry a man she’s never met, so-“

“What?!?!!” He then grabbed Blast by the collar and looked him in the eyes, “Are you saying Pitaya is shallow?!”

“If killing a pig is what it takes to get married to her, then yes. However, you didn’t let me finish. I was going to say that you’re more than welcome to tell her how you feel. Even if she knew more about me, I still don’t know why she’d ever want to marry me.”

“And why’s that?! Are you saying she’s not good enough for you?!”

“What? No. I’m saying that-“

“Hey! You two!!!” Pitaya said as she suddenly raced into the room, “We’ve got trouble!!!”

“Hm? Trouble?” The two said in unison.

“Yes! It’s King Kappa!”

“What?!” Estallido said rather shocked,

“King what…?” Blast asked as he was then let go of by Estallido as he ran off with Pitaya. “H-Hey! Wait for me!” He then ran after them and followed them through the castle. As they drew closer to the front doors of the palace the air began to smell more and more of fire and death. The three of them came through the front doors of the palace to see a massive Flying Fortress and several monstrous troops on the ground. The crowd of monsters split open as a large figure walked through them and up to a few feet in front of the palace.

The leader was massive! He was a little over seven feet tall, and had green scaly skin! He was an overly large Kappa, two tusks near the back of his jaw protruded upwards and backwards. The beak on his face was rather ferocious looking with it’s hook-like shape. His shell had large spikes knobs going down the center of it. His tail was a few inches shy of touching the ground, and resembled that of a tail on a snapping turtle. He wore brown martial art pants with a grass skirt tied around his waist to act as a belt. His stomach was slightly round and his muscles were quite large. He had webbed fingers and toes, each with pointed claws at the end of his digits. And his eyes, his burning red hellfire eyes, were enough to make Blast feel the slightest bit uneasy.

“Princess Pitaya,” he said with his usually dark and heavy voice, “It seems we’ve got a bit of a problem.”

“We don’t have any problems, King Kappa.” Pitaya responded,

“Oh but we do,” the King replied, “You see, I gained word that someone you’ve taken in has defeated my strongest general.”

“That’s news to me. Clearly you-“

“Is this about the pig?” Blast rather nonchalantly,

“Y-YOU IDIOT!!!” Pitaya said to herself,

“The Pig?” King Kappa asked as he turned to Blast,

“Yeah, it’s all anyone has ever talked about since I got here.”

“Hmmm, I see.” He placed his hands behind his back as he began to walk to the side in Blast’s direction, “Say, I don’t think I recognize you. Where are you from?”

“Not from around here, that’s for sure.” Blast said,

“Then I take it, you’re the one who killed Ragnar, is that correct?”

“That’s right,” Blast said as he lifted his hand and held up his middle and index finger. An almost ‘nice to meet you’ type of gesture.

“And what do they call you?”

“Blast. Blast Blazar.”

“Well then, Blast, I take it you don’t know who I am. You see, I am King Kappa, and you taking out Ragnar is a bit of a problem for me.”

“How so?”

“You see, he was the only one keeping the Princess here at bay. Now that he’s gone, who knows what’ll happen to us.”

“Us?”

“Yes, me and my monster army.” He said as he turned and gestured to the large army behind him, “The people of the Starfruit Kingdom aren’t very kind to people like us. So we used Ragnar as protection.”

“THAT’S A LIE!!!” Princess Pitaya screamed, “WE’VE OFFERED YOU PEACE MANY TIMES!!!”

“Peace?” King Kappa asked, “What do you mean by peace? The people of the Starfruit Kingdom have taken out people like us. They’ve nearly driven us to extinction. With Ragnar gone now, guess that means we’re fair game now, right?”

Blast then turned to Princess Pitaya as he asked, “Princess, is that true?”

“I-“ Pitaya then froze as she started to think back, “All the issues you’ve had with me, with the Starfruit Kingdom…it isn’t inherently my fault.”

“Ah, I see, shifting the blame, huh?” King Kappa remarked. After a short pause he then charged the Princess at high speed. Blast quickly got between the two of them before he pulled out his gun and pulled the trigger. The look of shock decorated everyone’s faces as King Kappa was thrown onto his back. The monster army looked into Blast’s rather intense gaze as he began to speak.

“I don’t know you, I don’t know much about the history of this world. However, one thing I won’t tolerate, whether it’s in my home world, Earth, or anywhere I go…it’s coming for a woman unprovoked. Especially one who is defenseless.” King Kappa growled as he held his hand over his bleeding eye socket. “Doing that has cost you your eye. Do it again and I won’t hesitate to take your life.” Pitaya looked at the back of Blast’s head as her eyes then softened.

“He’s really cool…” She said under her breath,

“Now get the hell out of here. I’ll do my best to keep the Princess and the Starfruit Kingdom away from you and your monster army. Consider this an act of mercy.”

A//N

Holy crap!!! Things are really heating up!!! Alright, this is the last of the introductory chapters! This time we’ve met King Kappa! King Kappa is an unusually large Kappa mutant! He’s 7’8” and is a merciless beast! His birthday is June 5th! He clearly takes some inspiration from Bowser from the Super Mario Series, however, I kinda imagined him being more like Ganon from The Legend of Zelda. His favorite food is Cucumbers!

When I sat down and came up with this story, it originally had a much different premise. It was originally called Super Haruki World, and starred a delinquent Yankee who got Isekai’d to a world similar to the Mushroom Kingdom. Now, it’s a bit more like if Vash or Spike Spiegel got Isekai’d to the Mushroom Kingdom. Maybe I’ll find a way to bring Haruki into it, would you enjoy it???

The next chapter will start to focus on Blast as a character, and we’ll get good moments between him and Princess Pitaya! I can’t wait to develop their relationship!!!
