Chapter 4:
Gunslinger Drifter
The following night Blast sat there in the guest room on the bed. He had just taken a bath and still had yet to get dressed. For some reason, he couldn’t shake off what King Kappa had said the other day about the Starfruit Kingdom. As such he kind of ignored her the rest of the day, and then all day today. Had he done something wrong? Would Blast now be responsible for the genocide of a group of people? As he continued to think he removed his towel and started to put his clothes on. His underwear, his pants, and then his shirt. He turned to the bedroom door as he heard a knock come from the other side of it. “Who is it?” He called,
“It’s me…” Princess Pitaya’s voice came from the other side, “Can I come in?”
“Yeah, sure.” He said before the door opened and she stepped inside. She wore what appeared to be some pajamas. A lighter shirt and some loose pants. “What’s up?”
“Nothing, I just wanted to see if you were okay. You were avoiding me the rest of yesterday, and even today. Did I do something wrong?”
“I-“ He paused before he sighed and said, “I don’t know.”
“Oh okay,” she then cleared her throat before asking, “Want to talk about it?”
“Sure,”
“Great,” she walked across the room to the bed and she sat down before he then sat beside her.
“Princess, I’d like to ask you something.”
“Go ahead.”
“Were you responsible for the near extinction of those monsters? King Kappa seemed rather angry with you.”
“Are you kidding? He was more angry with you-“
“Please, just answer me.”
She sighed before she looked down at her feet and said, “No. I didn’t. The person who did was my father.”
“Why didn’t you tell them?”
“I’ve been trying too, but they’re never willing to listen.” She looked at him as she continued, “I’ve tried offering my sincerest apologies and even offered peace. However, Ragnar showed up and killed so many people in the Starfruit Kingdom including my father. So I just gave up in trying to reason with them!”
“But you still want to reason with them, don’t you?”
“Of course I do! My father caused them so much pain! However…at the same time, they’ve caused me pain as well.”
“That makes sense.” He sighed as he turned and looked across the room as he rubbed the back of his neck. “Now that I’ve gotten that answer, there’s one more question I want to ask you.”
“What is it?”
“Estallido told me that if someone were to kill Ragnar, then you’d marry them.” She then blushed in unison with a light gasp, “Do you want to marry me?”
“I-I-“
“If you do, then why? You don’t know anything about me really. Why would you risk it all for some man or woman who happens to kill a pig?”
“It’s much more than that! It’s…it’s a-“
“It’s what?” He asked her as he turned in her direction. She blushed before she looked down,
“It’s really…just a sign of strength. If someone is strong enough to defeat him, then they’re strong enough to protect me as well. It’s also about dedication. A dedicated man would spend months, if not, years to become strong enough to kill Ragnar. If you can spend all this time dedicated to one goal, then you’d be able to spend all your time dedicated to me as well.”
“I see,” he said as he stood up, “Well, I had no idea about all of this. Even if I did, I don’t want to marry you just because I killed some pig.”
“What do you mean?”
“If I want to marry you, I want to do it for love.” He placed his hands in his pockets as he walked over to the settee and dug into his jacket.
“Love…?”
He pulled out a piece of chiffon fabric before he came and sat down next to Pitaya again. He showed her the folded square of wine red chiffon fabric as he said, “You see this here?”
“Yeah, what is it?”
“It’s a piece of chiffon,” he replied, “There was a woman I once knew, one who I loved very deeply.”
“What was her name?”
“Miriam.” He replied, “She was a Hijabi and she always loved making clothes, blankets, and everyday things.”
“What was she like?” Pitaya asked as she turned towards him and gave her full attention.
“She was kind, gentle, and understanding. She was the most beautiful and wholesome person I’ve ever known. She could always find and bring out the best in me and other people.”
“She sounds incredible.”
“She was,” he said, “Anyways, we got to know each other and we started dating. We would go out and do many things together. We fell in love, and eventually we became engaged.” He chuckled as he said, “I couldn’t really afford a ring, so she made herself a special scarf, and this square piece of fabric was a little extra piece and so she gave it to me. So she wore a scarf instead of a ring, and I carried a piece of that scarf.”
“That sounds really romantic,” Pitaya said, “What happened to her? Did you guys get married?”
“No,” he said as he looked down at the piece of fabric. “She was taken from me, in fact, that whole world was taken from me. The man who took my home world from me is the one who did it.” He closed his eyes and fist as his kind flashed back to the fire, destruction, and blood of Miriam. He opened his eyes before he stood up and put his piece of cloth back into his jacket pocket. “Anyways, the message of the story is, if you want to marry me, then we should at least get to know each other.”
“Yeah…yeah, that makes sense.”
“Well then,” he walked over to her where he knelt down and held onto her hands. “Princess Pitaya, would you like to go on a date with me?” She swallowed heavily as her face began to run hot. “Please say yes, please say yes, please say yes!!!”
After a brief moment of bliss and tears swelling in her eyes she said, “Yeah, I’d love that.” She then looked into his and said, “I promise I won’t let anything bad happen to me so you don’t have to be heartbroken again!!! I’ll up my training schedule everyday, start doing double of everything!!!”
“You don’t have to do tha-“
“No, I want to!!! Hearing what happened to Miriam made me sad! I’d hate to put you through that!” She then shot to her feet, “Oh my god, I gotta start training! We’ll talk in the morning!” She then dashed from the bedroom and out into the castle. He chuckled as he shook his head. He started to stand up when she dashed back into the room and wrapped her arms around him. With her face buried into his back she spoke, “Please take care of me, okay?!”
“Uh…” He blushed before saying, “Y-Yeah, sure, only if you’ll do the same for me.”
“Okay…” She then let go of him and dashed out of the room once again.
He scratched the back of his neck as a warm feeling started to spread through his chest. He didn’t know why he just opened up to Pitaya like that. He truthfully only wanted to tell her about dates. However, now that he’s asked her out on one, he might be able to open up to her more. Would she open up to him? He had so many questions that kept him up that night as he laid in bed. However…one question in particular stuck out to him. What the hell was there to go do in the Starfruit Kingdom?!
A//N
Here we gooooo!!!!! Next chapter will be their first date!!! I’m super excited!!! They’ll be going on a few dates and getting closer and then there will eventually be a twist that’ll shake things up!!! Until then, stay tuned!!!
Because Miriam was Muslim, Blast would’ve had to convert to the religion for them to get married! It’s something he was more than willing to do!
A unique aspect of Blast’s gun and powers is that he can control how powerful a shot can be. If he wanted to kill someone with his gun, he could simply control the power and strength of the bullet to kill. For others he could make the shots non-lethal, for example when he shot King Kappa in the eye! Pay close attention to this, because perhaps the bullets will get stronger and stronger and perhaps infused with elemental abilities…
….oops I’ve said too much now…
