Chapter 8:
Beyond the shadows
"Well, well. Rachel,it has been a while, hasn't it?" Leah's mother said as she arrived at the table.
"It has indeed," Darius's mother said looking back at Leah's mother."how have you been keeping up Diane,I've heard that you were busy so you had to end up arriving late."
"Well yes,it couldn't be helped." Leah's mother, Diane said sitting down. Her elder daughter sat next to her.
"Well, welcome Mrs ford. I hope you've been keeping up well. How have you been." Jacob said smiling respectfully.
"I've been well thank you for enquiring. How is your job at the organisation Jacob?" Leah's mother asked.
"Thankfully,All has been well." Jacob said nodding his head slightly.
"And what about you Malcolm? How's your squadron doing?" Leah's mother enquired.
"Great." Malcolm said with a slight nod.
"So Diane, how have you been." Marcus said smiling.
"Very well thank you,you seem to have grown old with Rachel here at your throat all the time." Diane said with a half smirk, half smile.
"Ah,yes." Marcus said with a laugh.
"So how's your work diane." Rachel asked while shooting daggers at Diane.
"All is well." Diane said still wearing her mischievous smile.
"I've heard things were going pretty bad after that scandal." Rachel said taking a sip of the coffee before her.
"I'd prefer not to talk about it." Diane said her face growing dark, smile disappearing.
"Scared of the truth?" Rachel said with a half smile.
"Should I be?" Diane said pouring coffee into her own cup and steering it after adding sugar.
"Very." Rachel said eyeing her.
Diane kept silent. For the rest of the feast there was not much talking, just Marcus or Jacob making one or two bad jokes. The feast was nearing its end when the marquis household excused themselves.
"I hope we can meet again next time." Charles said with a sight bow of his head.
"Of course," Marcus said before he turned to leave with his family."good evening, enjoy the feast!"
"Sure." Charles said smiling.
Leah breathed a sigh of relief. Well that traumatising experience was over.
…
Timmy was just seated and listening to Lizzie rattle on and on about something or the other. He was bored and needed to be occupied, at least not with listening to Lizzie speak.
Neo returned to the table and was seated across the table in silence. Amy had stopped concentrating on Lizzie's talk and was looking at Neo. She seemed deep in thought.
"Neo," Timmy called from across the table.
"What?" Neo said looking up from his place. He had his head in his hands before Timmy called him.
"Did you find Leah?" Timmy asked.
"Yeah, but she was at the VIP tables with her parents," Neo said, his voice evidently full of remorse.
Timmy noticed Amy had stopped looking at Neo and was looking down. She seemed sort of sad. He decided not to pry.
"What's a VIP?" Timmy asked turning back to look at Neo.
"Are you seriously asking me that?" Neo asked Timmy.
"Yes," Timmy said nodding.
Neo sighed and then said, "It's an important person."
"Oh," Timmy said slowly." so Leah is an important person."
"I don't know if you'd say that but her family's important. But to me, Leah is an important person." Neo said rubbing his nose as he grinned ridiculously when he said the latter part.
"Okay," Timmy said drinking some juice. He was feeling tired.
"Hey Timmy, let's get to bed," Neo said noticing Timmy's sleepiness. Timmy nodded.
"I'm heading to bed too," Amy said standing up.
"Already you guys?" Lizzie whined.
"Yes." All three of them said at the same time.
"Fine, I'll come," Lizzie said as she followed Amy.
The four of them walked towards the exit and as Timmy walked he bumped into someone. The person stumbled over and fell back. It was Darius, he had left his family and was heading to the bathroom before going to bed and now he'd bumped into Timmy at the exit.
"Watch where you going punk!" Darius shouted angrily as he stood up.
"Sorry," Timmy said.
"You think an apology will fix this? You should know better than to bump into me!" Darius shouted.
He was annoyed that his night had ended terribly and now he had someone to take it out on. This person seemed new so he could also take this chance to show him the boss around the place. Darius waited for Timmy to respond.
Ignore him Timmy heard Jago say.
Timmy complied and walked right past Darius.
He turned to see Neo and the others stared at him surprised.
"Let's go," Timmy said as he continued walking.
"That was so cool, you completely ignored him." Lizzie kept saying excitedly.
Timmy kept silent.
"Hey," Neo said to Timmy.
"Yes?" Timmy asked.
"Don't get mixed up with that guy, he comes from a big family so he can easily dispose of you if he wants," Neo said.
"Don't worry," Timmy said as they walked on.
When the time came to separate Amy and Lizzie greeted them goodbye and Timmy and Neo went on their way.
They walked into the boy's dorm and went straight to their rooms. It was a little past midnight and the festival would end pretty soon.
Timmy didn't bother changing: he never did. Timmy just simply leapt onto the bed and lay there.
"Hey." The monster said to Timmy.
"What is it?" Timmy asked.
"I've discovered something," Jago said.
"What did you discover?" Timmy asked staring at the ceiling as he lay on the bed.
"You haven't awakened," Jago told him.
"I haven't?" Timmy asked.
"No, the power you have is from merging with me," Jago said with a sigh.
"How do I awaken?" Timmy asked.
"You don't have to worry about that," Jago assured
"Why?" Timmy asked truly curious.
"Because I'll help you on that aspect, you just have to spend around 10 minutes a day meditating in silence, the rest I'll handle." The monster said confidently.
"How will that help?" Timmy asked again.
"Look, all human bodies are like a vessel. A vessel that stores magical energy. In order to unlock that power, much needs to be done. The process of unlocking this power is called awakening. People rarely awaken without proper procedure and assistance and when they do, it's probably from a huge mystical impact. I can help you unlock this power in your body so you don't have to worry much about it. Just meditate for the next one month and leave the rest to me." Jago explained.
"Can I meditate for more than 10 minutes?" Timmy asked.
"Not really,10 minutes is enough. We can't rush the process or it could harm you." Jago explained.
"You seem very knowledgeable about these," Timmy said unsuspectingly: even if he suspected the monster nobody would be able to tell.
"I've been around for a while after all so it's understandable that I'm this wise." The monster humbly said.
I didn't say he was wise Timmy thought to himself.
"I obviously heard that you idiot. I live in your head and we speak to each other in your head anyways!" The monster shouted. He sounded annoying.
"Please lower your voice, you are in my head after all," Timmy said closing his eyes.
"Hmph! Well, you should learn to be more respectful." Jago said.
"Okay," Timmy said before closing his eyes.
And then he fell asleep, he slept through the night like a baby.
…
Timmy woke up in the morning feeling fresh. His body recovered pretty quickly after merging with the demon.
The chairman had sent him stationary together with a few pairs of the school's uniforms. Each pair had a coat, blazer, shirt, trousers, tie, and jacket. Together with the bundle was a note from the chairman. It read as follows:
Timmy
I hope you are coping with the academy and pretty soon from now you will be attending the academy. Try to make friends and do your best, okay? Good luck.
Yours truly
Chairman
Timmy sighed. He had thought that the letter would have some useful information. Timmy changed into his uniform and observed himself in the mirror.
It was weird, just yesterday he was in Marlin high school uniform but yet today he wore this Crystal Academy uniform.
It was a black pair of trousers together with a black shirt. It also had a black blazer. The shirt and coat trim were red and the tie was a dull grey.
There was a single pair of uniform together with a tracksuit set. The tracksuit set consisted of a pair of grey tracksuit pants, a shirt, and a jacket. The shirt was a short sleeve one, but it was a skintight one.
Well at least it looks good on you was what Jago said to him. According to Jago, his other uniform looked terrible on him together with his old terrible haircut. moreover, he was looking a little healthier than he did before.
Timmy, after looking at the mirror one more time left to start off his first day at Crystal Academy, a school for the gifted.
Timmy had been led to his form class by a member of the student council. Timmy walked into the classroom with her.
After the Student council member explained to the subject teacher that he was a new student the teacher grumpily told him to introduce himself and find a place to sit down.
Timmy removed his hands which were in his pockets and spoke, "I'm Timmy, pleased to meet you. "
Without hesitation he walked over to the first face that looked familiar and spoke to them.
"Hey, Leah." He spoke.
Leah who was too focused on drawing little stars on a piece of paper looked up and almost had a heart attack.
"Hey, does he know her."
"Is he hitting her up."
"Oh my gosh, he's so straightforward."
"Look at how composed he is."
"His rizz is over 3000!"
"Ah! Timmy?" Leah asked shocked that he had ended up in her class. There were 3 other classes and he ended up with her.
What a coincidence.
"Hey, does she know him?"
"Is she just trying to stay cool or something?"
"It sounded like she knew him."
"Can I sit here." Timmy asked pointing to an empty seat next to her.
"Ah, sure." Leah said forcing a smile. She was a bit too tired from the night before. She hardly had any sleep.
"Okay." Timmy said sitting down.
After a while the Whispers and mumbles in the class died down.
His first lesson was history. Obviously not normal history lessons where they learned about the president's great grandfather's war struggles but history of the gifted.
History all about the mystical powers possessed by the gifted and history about the gifted themselves. There were also a few things on demons.
Their first lesson was speaking about the origin of the powers. Apparently, the exact origin could not be traced but there was once a time when mankind never knew of monsters. It was after the fiends appeared that the gifted also appeared. Most people back then were in B+ class, something that cannot be explained.
The teacher, a slender man who wore spectacles and showed a few signs of Balding was just about to talk about his own theory on that matter when the bell rang. At least that was over for now.
The next few subjects were mystical geography which dealt with mystical plants, stones, and much more, mystical sciences were next on the list and it was about mystical theories and experiments.
That was mysticism. The teacher who had escorted Timmy to his room before taught the subject. She was addressed as Professor Catherine.
The subject was all about abilities. The subject discussed and spoke about the abilities in detail and explained how they worked.
Timmy learned quite a lot in that lesson and understood his powers a bit more.
Than it was lunchtime. Timmy had just stood up when he heard someone screaming his name.
"Timmy!" A small red haired someone scream crashing into Timmy. Timmy didn't budge.
"Whoa, you're strong," Lizzie said as she attempted to push Timmy.
"Oh Lizzie," Timmy said as he looked down at the little nuisance of a child. "You're in my class."
"I know right? What a coincidence!" Lizzie said smiling her usual toothy smile.
"I thought you were in a smaller grade," Timmy said scratching his hair.
Lizzie gasped and punched Timmy's arm. "Don't make such terrible jokes Timmy, you can't do it with your serious face."
Amy was standing next to her and Neo was silently seated at the back of the class.
"So I see you two have met already," Leah said walking up to Timmy. "I wonder if you actually need my help getting to know this place."
Before Timmy could answer Lizzie spoke.
"Whoa! Timmy, you're friends with Leah? Neo never told me, how did you two meet?" Lizzie said bouncing ecstatically like usual.
Again before Timmy could answer, Leah spoke.
"It's a long story. Anyways I wanna speak to Timmy in private." Leah said pulling Timmy's arm, Timmy didn't budge until she glared at him with eyes that said 'Let's go '.
"Let's go to the dining hall for lunch, we'll be late," Neo said pulling Lizzie away as Amy followed.
Leah and Timmy walked in silence until Leah spoke.
"I see you've made friends," Leah said looking at him in the eye.
"They came to me," Timmy said honestly. "They didn't say that they were my friends anyways."
"They're a bunch of nice people." Leah said. "there are nice people here at the academy and there are bad people."
"Bad people?" Timmy inquired.
"Yes, bad people," Leah said sighing as she remembered Darius. "terrible and annoying people."
"I don't like bad people," Timmy said tucking his hands In his pockets. He didn't know why but it had become a recent habit.
"Nobody does," Leah said patting Timmy's shoulder.
They both reached the dining hall and sat down. They waited until lunch was brought to them and then they ate.
It was after lunch that a few minutes of free time was given and then classes commenced. It was practical classes and sometimes classes did practicals together.
There were 3 more subjects, monster studies, mystical combat, and the last subject weaponry combat.
The second subject, mystical combat was thought by Professor McKinney.
He walked into the training hall with his hands behind his back and turned to face the crowd. He spoke and outstretched his arms to reveal white gloves as he spoke.
"Welcome, everyone."
