Chapter 10:

weaponry combat

Beyond the shadows

The last lesson of the day. Weaponry combat.

Timmy was more than ready. He was prepared.

He had come to this new school in a whole new environment but was coping well. His life took such a great turn yet he wasn't bothered by the least. He was too good at adapting.

The professor that was conducting the lesson walked in. He greeted them and than introduced himself.

"Greetings everyone. I professor Lucas, will be your educator from now onwards. I'm sure you all know that due to some unfortunate that circumstances your former teacher will no longer conduct you lessons I hope we can all get along."

Timmy was in the dark about everything. He knew nothing about the former teacher because he had arrived quite recently. Sensing his confusion Leah whispered to Him.

"Our former teacher was involved in some scandal which resulted in him losing his job at this school. It was really scandalous."

Timmy nodded as he understood what she meant. It wasn't something he really needed to be bothered with so Timmy didn't think too much about it

Professor Lucas had worn a black coat together wiith a black hat. He removed his coat and hat and than smoothed down his long neat hair. His black eyes held a piercing gaze as he cut through the crowd of students with it.

Professor folded his shirt sleeves and than started speaking with a grim expression on his face.

"So as you all know today we're doing weaponry training,so I hope you're all prepared."

It was after he said this that he summoned a sword. It looked long and sharp and it glimmered as he turned it in his hand. Professor Lucas than took the sword and swung it a few times. This he did only with one hand but still, nobody could read his movements. There were just a few flashes to be seen as he elegantly swung his sword.

"So today we'll be learning how to wield one of the most commonly used weapons, the sword. A person has to at least know the basics of sword fighting so I want you all to listen and pay close attention."

Professor Lucas spoke and explained to the class for a few minutes before he went on displaying his sword movements to the class. They were perfect and no flaw could be detected in his movements.

"Now, everyone go pick a sword."

Professor Lucas said pointing to the weaponry room. Everyone went and picked a sword. They were only allowed to use low grade swords because those swords deal the least damage and were perfect for training. To cause fatal injuries using those swords was only possible with an experienced professional swordsman.

"So you're going to practice just like I explained to you, I'll pair you all with someone so practice well."

Professor Lucas said as he returned his sword to where ever it came from.

Professor chose the partners.

Neo was with another tall guy with freckles called Brock.

Leah was with a boy who had pitch-black hair with blue eyes. He was called Nino.

Amy was paired with a boy who had blonde hair with a flashy hairstyle. He was called Brett.

Lizzie with the blue-haired girl, the blue-haired girl was called Lenna.

And finally, Timmy was paired with a quiet girl with pitch-black hair and light blue eyes. She was called Nina.

The others were paired together too and soon they were ready to begin their training.

"You can all begin."

Professor Lucas beckoned as he let out a sigh. Pairing them together was difficult work.

Timmy faced the girl in front of him.

Her light blue eyes watched him and it almost seemed like it was analyzing him, measuring his movements, and trying to figure him out.

She held a mysterious air to her. Timmy could feel her observant gaze as they circled each other like wild beasts.

Timmy just raised the sword the way he saw Professor Lucas do it. He was in his ready stance. He had just gotten into position and then it wasn't even one breath after when he saw Nina apear in front of him with her sword. She swung her sword in a horizontal line to attack him.

Bang

Almost a second too late Timmy managed to block the attack. Before he could even recover he spotted another attack heading towards him. Timmy stopped the attack and he almost staggered backwards.

Before Timmy knew it he was defending against a barrage of attacks.

He barely escaped each strike.

Each of Nina's strikes were carefully calculated and accurate, in a real fight,it would be lethal.

The only thing that helped Timmy here was his own physical ability. Because of how his physique had improved he could almost keep up with Nina's attacks.

Timmy managed to evade a few more attacks before leaping far backwards so he could get out of Nina's attacking range but Nina came right after him.

She swung her sword with precision and Timmy blocked it.

' there! A chance.'

Timmy thought to himself. There was a little bit of space left after he had deflected Nina's last attack. Without waiting for an extra second, Timmy charged forward with his sword ready to swing his blade towards Nina's exposed self.

He swung his sword and would have made contact when Nina suddenly managed evaded the attack. Her agility and reflexes was really exceptional. Any normal person would never be able to evade an attack like that, but she completely avoided it.

Before he could recover, Timmy felt Nina trip him. He had been so focused on attacking her so he did not see it coming. Timmy lost his balance.

Before he could move a muscle he felt someone's leg on his back and Nina had her sword pointed to the back his head.

Timmy heard the professor whistle. Professor had never witnessed a fight like this among first years before. It was the most intense fight he'd witnessed so far.

"Well done, both of you. You two can rest now."

Professor said to Timmy and Nina.

Timmy was still on the floor while Nina stood and looked down at him. Nina closed her eyes and bowed her head as if acknowledging him before walking away. Timmy just ruffled his hair.

' I want to duel with her again.'

Timmy thought to himself before getting up and dusting his clothes. Timmy decided to practice on his own so he took his sword and began to practice with it.

He mimicked Nina's earlier movements with the sword. He didn't know where to start with sword and wielding so he decided to start there.

Timmy stopped practicing for a bit when he decided to watch Leah's fight.

Leah was good, but Nino seemed just a little better. Leah was holding off well but Nino kept raining down attacks on her. Leah would occasionally get a strike or two in but Nino would easily evade or deflect them.

All that could be seen as sparks. The fight seemed like it would never end. It just kept getting more and more intense before the professor stopped it.

"That's enough you two."

Professor said intervening in the duel. These children didn't seem like they needed any tutoring.

' They're all monsters.'

The professor thought to himself almost shuddering at the thought of it. He was strangely excited.

' To think I get to train these beasts.'

He said with an evil smirk on his face. After telling them they could rest he went to observe the other duels.

Neo was struggling against the tall boy called Brock. Neo was not so great at handling weapons so even though his opponent was just above average, he was having a difficult time.

Professor observed the fight before turning to observe the others.

Amy had won her fight even though it was an equally matched duel. Lizzie's duel had ended in a draw but Lizzie was a little better than her opponent. Even though she never tried too hard at anything, she was pretty talented when it came to the sword.

It was after that professor stopped the practice. He clapped his palms loudly as he spoke.

"Practice is over everyone so you can all report to your dorms. Go on and leave the swords where you got them."

Everyone complied. Timmy noticed that he was receiving a bit of attention. Everyone seemed to stare at him and whisper to each other.

' Weird

Timmy left the sword in the room and walked back. Then suddenly Leah and Neo caught up with him.

"Hey I saw a bit of your duel, you were amazing," Leah said to Timmy who seemed quite uninterested.

"Oh?" Timmy questioned before saying, "But I lost?"

"You managed to get in an attack against Nina, nobody's done that before," Neo said smiling at Timmy.

"Yeah, and she even acknowledged you a bit. She doesn't even blink at anyone. She's much like you." Leah said with a low sigh.

"I never knew." Timmy plainly said. He didn't think much of it besides the fact that he hadn't won. He wanted to win.

"Somehow you seem upset," Neo said watching Timmy who walked with his head lowered. Timmy still wore his usual "bored" expression.

"No, I am not upset. I just intended to win." Timmy said shrugging his shoulders.

"This wasn't some big competition, it's just a bit of sparring," Leah said in a matter-of-fact voice.

"Oh, okay," Timmy replied finding no reason to continue any discussion.

"Yeah, don't worry too much," Neo said with a bright smile.

Timmy nodded and continued walking.

"Hey." Neo said staring ahead at something invisible.

"Yes?" Timmy said turning towards him.

"You know those swords we used?" Neo asked him.

"Nope." Timmy simply replied.

"They're the basic training swords. They're low-grade swords and they can't even fatally hurt anyone. The only cases where the sword is deadly is when it's in the hands of a monster, or a genius," Neo's eyes glowed as he turned to face Timmy. "Nina is one such monster. She can slice a rock with ease while using a training sword."

"..." Timmy was listening now and he understood something. He understood how big of a gap he had to close.

"I know you're upset Nina was holding back against you but no offense, you're not her opponent. And also the fact that she acknowledged you mean that she recognizes your ability or rather your potential. This is your first time wielding a sword and if you want to master and become better at that or anything else. You need to be prepared to learn, learn even from your opponents."

"..." Timmy stayed silent. It seemed cold but perhaps if Neo read his mind he would understand.

Timmy appreciated the advice and intended to use it.

"Hahaha, maybe I talk too much." Neo laughed a little before placing his hands in his Pockets and increasing his pace.

"Neo," Timmy said.

"Yeah?" Neo said turning around, a little surprised.

"Thank you," Timmy said before quickly walking off.

"Eh..." Neo said puzzled. He turned to face Leah with a confused face and found her looking just as surprised.

"He actually thanked you..." She almost whispered." he never even speaks."

Neo regained his composure a little before nodding.

"Then he ran away as if he were shy, so cute," Lizzie said energetically from behind them.

"Aah! Don't sneak up on me like that! And who the hell are you calling cute?" Neo said in a stern voice as he pulled Lizzie's ear.

"Ouch! Ouwie! Sorry, sorry, it hurts." Lizzie cried out.

Neo frowned and let go of her ear. Lizzie rubbed her ears

Neo sighed as he left the girls to return to the boy's dorm.
