Chapter 11:

Infiltration

Beyond The Void

“Alright, how do we stop him? Do you have a plan?” Louise asked.

“Not really, I’ve never dealt with zombies before.” I answered. “I’ll think of something, so let’s try to keep our distance for now.”

Suddenly, a black fireball was launched towards us, forcing us to dodge in opposite directions. This boded well since I had planned to suggest splitting up anyway, making it harder for him to target us…

However, I instantly realized that I’d made a grave mistake as he completely ignored me and started running towards Louise who was already pretty far away from where I was.

“Shit!” I tried to run after him as fast as I could, but he already had a head start on me, and was quickly closing in on Louise.

My fears were immediately proven to be unfounded, though, as Louise punched him right in the stomach. As Chris flew straight into one of the walls, I smirked, since he now knew exactly how I’d felt.

However, he got up without even flinching, and immediately started running back towards her, so he clearly wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed.

“Hnnngh!” Emmett’s voice suddenly cried out in pain behind me, I turned around to see him on the floor with two cultists left preparing to finish him off.

“Hey!” Completely forgetting the threat of the zombified Christopher, I charged at the two cultists who immediately turned to me and simultaneously cast two fireballs, one of which I easily avoided by rolling sideways while the other totally missed it. That cultist clearly had worse aim than Giannis taking a free throw, but I didn’t complain about it.

“Damn it, don’t abandon me, idiot!” Louise yelled while staving off Christopher. “You’re the one who suggested teaming up in the first place, and now you’re bailing on me?”

“Sorry, just gimme a minute!” I yelled back.

I threw a fist at the cultist that was closest to me, but she immediately stepped backwards. An electric shock suddenly filled my body, and I crumbled to the floor. I had been hit in the back by the other cultist.

However, I’d gained enough time for Emmett to recover and in turn, sneak attack the cultist who had sneak attacked me with a huge uppercut that sent her flying.

As the cultist crashed back to the floor, she laid limp, so I turned my attention to the last cultist while struggling to get up.

“Fools!” She yelled, and I realized that was the one who’d revived Christopher, but that realization came too late. “Christopher, return to your master and protect me!”

Christopher, who had been locked in battle with Louise, suddenly turned and rushed toward the cultist, standing in front of her protectively.

Louise caught up to the two of us as we stood on one side, staring down the cultist and Christopher who were standing in front of the staircase.

“Yo, didn’t you basically create this whole cult?” Emmett said. “Why couldn’t you just have gotten them to buzz off?”

“No, I told them before the ritual not to listen to me unless the ritual was complete, and I immediately blew the fact that it failed by killing Christopher.”

“Then why would you do that, then?” The fury Louise had felt upon her brother’s death suddenly rising up again.

“Hey, shut up, you have no right to talk!” Emmett retorted. “You guys were the one trying to kill him in the first place!”

Louise grit her teeth, but conceded. “Fine, let’s just take care of these two for now, then we’ll talk later.”

“You kids are acting quite confident, as if you’ve already got this situation in the bag.” The cultist lowered her hood, revealing a middle aged woman with purple curly hair, smiling smugly with her eyes also glowing purple from the spell.

“What the-No way!” I shouted. “It can’t be!”

“Who’s that?” Emmett asked upon seeing my reaction. “You know her?”

“Nah, not really.” I said calmly. “I just thought it would be funny to react like that, I’ve always wanted to say something cool along these lines.”

Emmett burst out laughing.

“Y-You’re joking at a time like this?” Louise was in disbelief at the two of us. “You idiots! Stop fooling around!”

“Are you three done yet?” The woman interrupted. “I don’t have all night, you know.”

Before any of us could respond, she snapped her fingers, causing Christopher to rush towards us.

“I got him!” Emmett stepped forward with his right hand turning to flames.

He swung at Christopher and connected, smashing him to the other side of the room.

As Emmett ran towards Christopher, me and Louise stayed there, preparing to confront the last cultist.

“All we’ve done so far is switch opponents.” Louise remarked. “We need to finish this, and quickly.”

“Wait a second, isn’t she supposed to be following your orders?” I asked, only now realizing that. “I understand why she isn’t listening to me, but why you, as well?”

“Fool! I’ve never seen that woman in my life!” She answered. “She must have killed one of our members and infiltrated the meeting.”

“That’s right, you’ve finally figured it out!” The woman laughed. “About time!”

“Infiltrated..? How is that even possible?”

This whole situation was getting out of hand. I’d gotten into this without even knowing what awaited me, my memories were then restored and I managed to get the gist of it, but now this happened. Who the hell was that person? How did she possess the power of resurrection despite not being a member of The Masked Order?

“Enough talk! Let’s end this!” The woman spread her arms out, creating a black orb in each hand, exactly like the one Christopher had made earlier.

“Damn it, I have a feeling she’s not exactly gonna be a cake walk…”I muttered, as she sent the orbs towards us.

The thought of Chris and Emmett’s battle almost came to mind, but I immediately brushed off any external distraction. Any mishap could cost me my life, and I’d already gotten away with a couple of mistakes earlier, I couldn’t repeat it for the third time.

This is it, it doesn’t matter who she is, we just have to beat her!

You can’t do anything, fool!

The voice of the original once again echoed in my head, but I ignored it, and watched Louise charge at the woman.

“I’ll be the main strikeforce, and you be the support!” She yelled while charging at her. “So do your damn job and cover me!”

“Right!”
