Chapter 6:

Guests

Two-way learning

It is my first time bringing someone home, so I’m a little nervous. But I won't let this opportunity go to waste; I have to show them the best side of me.

“You can have a seat in the living room” I showed them our living room. It is small, just two couches, a little table in the middle, and a TV at the front.

“Pardon the interruption” said both of them while entering the room.

“I'll go and get something to drink” I leave the living room towards the kitchen. Emmi came with me.

“So, how do you know them?” she asked me, lowering her tone, so the girls could not hear her.

“I don't really know them”.

“But you were talking with them outside”.

“Yeah, well we… just ran into each other”.

“You are really bad at lying” she said, frowning. Somehow, she always gets me when I am lying.

“Okay, okay I know them a little. We met this morning” I said to her while searching for something to drink in the refrigerator.

“I knew it! So, how do you know them?”.

“You are too curious” I said to her. I am trying to avoid telling her everything that has happened. But she obviously wants to know, I know this because she is frowning exaggeratedly.

“Okay” I sighed. “Bernard presented them to me in the morning. They are really good students and Bernard basically wants them to tutor me”.

“Isn't that great?! Maybe with their help you would increase your grades” she exclaimed excitedly.

“Yeah but, it doesn't seem like they wanted to do it. I think they hate me”.

“Maybe you did something”.

“Hehe, yeah maybe”.

I technically did nothing wrong but somehow I feel like I should be the one making things right.

“There is nothing to drink, you have to go and buy something” she said crossing her arms.

“You should have said that before I spent two minutes searching for nothing”.

“Whatever you did. You better fix it and make them your friends” She pinched my cheek.

“Why!?”.

“Cuz, they are cute”.

That’s not the point… Anyway, in some form, she is right. If I want them to tutor me, I’ll first try and become at least more friendly.

I go back to the living room, with a solid and flawless plan.

“Unfortunately I don't have anything to offer you girls to drink”.

Something to build the pavements of our new friendship.

“But I have something to kill the time while we wait for your parents”.

I pull out my secret weapon.

“We are playing cards!”.

“Lame…” everyone looked at me in disappointment.

Lame!? How dare they say cards are lame… Cards are the best game for your brain, it works it out.

“Look, we are very thirsty, so why don't you go and buy something?” Emmi pushed me out of the house.

“I'll take care of the guests” she closed the door with a grim on her face.

I walked to the nearest store. Once I bought something to drink I started heading back to the apartment, then someone called my name.

“Bernard?”. I turn around.

“What a coincidence. I was just about to go to your apartment”.

“Really?”.

“Yeah, I wanted to visit you”.

“You mean visit Jane, don’t you?”.

Since I live with Jane, I noticed that Bernard feels something for her. It is pretty obvious in my opinion. He lived pretty far, but he always came on weekends to visit us and take us to parks or the mall. He always wants to help her in any way he can. I tried many times to help him with Jane, like leaving them alone, or taking care of Emmi while they go out to dinner, but despite all my efforts, Bernard hasn’t asked her out yet. Well, I don’t have any clue about being in love and confessions, so I can't know Bernard's reasons for not saying what he feels to Jane. Anyway, he is a good man that can support Jane, so I have no complaints if he goes out with her.

“Am I that obvious?” he asked.

“Just for me... and Emmi... and the rest of the world”.

“...”.

“The only one that seems to haven't noticed yet is Jane”.

“It seems...” he showed a little sadness.

“Come on old man” I gave him a little push in his back “Your love will be corresponded”.

“Do you think so?” he asked me, showing a little kid’s hope in his eyes.

“Of course, I do” he smiled. “Oh, but she is not home yet, so you may have to wait”.

“So, are you alone with Emmi?”.

“No, Yuki and Lucy are in...” I instantly stop talking. The words just came out of my mouth. There is nothing wrong in what I was about to say. The girls are at my home because they forgot the keys and no one is at their apartment, that’s why, yeah, there is nothing bad about that, why am I nervous? There is no need to be nervous, it's just Bernard, he will understand.

“Huh.... So, you took the girls to your apartment while Jane wasn’t home” he said grinning.

“Wrong! You are misunderst-”.

“I'm so proud of you...” he said while wiping fake tears from his eyes.

“That's something you shouldn’t be proud of!” I yelled at him.

“Don't worry I'll go and take Emmi for an Ice cream while you do what you have to do”.

“I'm not going to do anything!”.

“But remember Chris, protect yourself”.

I'm done with this guy.

I started to walk home but Bernard stopped me. He was by the store to buy something to drink since he told Jane he was bringing some food in order to celebrate my admission to the school. We both get in his car and go home. I use the time on the way homey to explain why the girls were at my apartment.

“Oh man, you should have said it before, I misunderstood everything. I thought you were going to choose the harem route”.

“I was trying to tell you, but you didn’t let me talk, and stop talking about harem”.

When we got to the apartment, Jane’s car was there. When we entered the apartment, no one was in the living room. We left the bags on the table.

“I'm home!” I said, waiting for someone to answer me.

“Chris, you're late. Oh, hi Bernard” Emmi came out from the hallway.

“Did the girls leave already?” I asked her.

“Nop, they are with Jane”.

“What are they doing?”.

“You have to go and find it yourself”.

“Bernard brought dinner so, I'll prepare the table”.

“I can do that”.

“It's okay Emmi I can do it”.

“They’re in your room”.

“I leave everything in your hands”.

I ran to my room the fastest I could. I don't want the girls in my room. My room is supposed to be my sanctuary, my safe place, the holy land. Most importantly, there is stuff that no one can see, and worse those girls.
