Chapter 10:

The Sun and The Moon

Writing is Therapy: The Tale of Two University Students Who Found Love and Understanding Through the Power of Pen and Paper in a World Not Their Own

Nathan's gaze shifted from his Macbook to Johnathan, the shared document illuminating the screen. The cursor blinked, teasingly patient as if urging him to unravel his thoughts. He surrendered to the words surging within him with a hushed exhale, his pulse quickening with anticipation. Peeking at Johnathan, he was captivated by the intensity brewing in his eyes before returning to the screen. And so, cradling the cup of tea that Johnathan had thoughtfully brewed, Nathan embarked on his narrative.

The moon was high, casting an ethereal glow upon the enchanted forest. Lunaria, the mage of chaos and shadows, stood atop a cliff, his robes fluttering in the night breeze. His silver hair cascaded down his back, reflecting the moonlight. His eyes, as deep and mysterious as the night sky, scanned the horizon.

Nathan took a sip of his tea, his eyes darting toward Johnathan. He noticed Johnathan leaning in, already captivated by the words on the screen, like a child watching a magic show. Nathan felt a small thrill, and his fingers flew across the keyboard.

Lunaria was a magical creature, his very essence woven with the arcane threads. His heart was a well of emotions, but they were not of the romantic or carnal kind. He was a being of aesthetics and feelings, his soul resonating with the beauty and mysteries of the world. The intricate magics, bound by reason and imagination, were fueled by mana unique to every living being.

The air around him shimmered with magic as he chanted an ancient spell. He felt alive, his heart singing with the power coursing through his veins. This was his world, where magic was as tangible as the air he breathed. His dark shadowy mana glistened in the moonlight like his own galaxy.

Suddenly, a bright light pierced through the darkness. Soleil, the valiant knight clad in golden armor, emerged from the forest. His presence was like the sun, warm and radiant. His smile was genuine, his heart pure.

"Soleil, why do you seek me in this sacred place?" Lunaria's voice whispered in the wind, unsure why he had come.

"I seek your company, Lunaria. Your magic, your presence, it calls to me," Soleil replied stoically, his voice solid and earnest.

Lunaria's heart ached at the sincerity in Soleil's voice. He couldn't comprehend the pull of romantic or physical desires, but he could sense the raw emotions in Soleil. The man had seemed so honestly bright and heroic that it had to have been an act. Watching him these past days has changed his opinion slightly, even if he still did not fully trust him.

"Soleil, my heart is like the moon, distant and cold. I do not yearn for touch or affection in the way you do," Lunaria spoke, his voice tinged with sadness as he bit his lip.

Pausing momentarily, Nathan glanced at Johnathan, who seemed to inhale the words with bated breath, his parted lips revealing a glimmer of astonishment. Nathan's heartbeat quickened, a palpable connection forged between the lines. This was him, bared through Lunaria's essence, and Johnathan was finally witnessing it—the reason for his previous icy rejection. Locking eyes with the blond, Johnathan seemed to yearn for Nathan's Macbook to reveal more, laying bare the secrets and emotions he had concealed all his life.

A hitch caught Nathan's breath as his gaze returned to the screen, his fingers trembling delicately as he painstakingly typed the following words.

Lunaria felt the intensity of Soleil's emotions enveloping him. He could feel the raw yearning, the sheer depth of Soleil's feelings. Though his own heart did not beat with the same desires, he felt an emotional pull, an undeniable connection.

Soleil's lips were now just a breath away from Lunaria's. His voice whispered, "Let me be your sun, Lunaria."

Nathan glanced at Johnathan again. This time, Johnathan was looking straight at him. His eyes were wide, and his lips were slightly parted. There was a vulnerability in his gaze that Nathan had never seen before. A hesitation and even a sliver of rejection. Was he thinking about that moment? When he told him that he didn't trust or love him?

Nathan felt his breath catch in his throat. He looked back at the screen, his fingers trembling slightly as he typed the following words.

Lunaria's silver eyes softened. "Then, only for tonight, let the moon be yours and the sun be mine. I make no promises for the future, but this night due to your honest, loving words, I will trust and care for you," he whispered.

They danced under the stars, their movements a symphony of grace and power. The forest around them seemed to come alive as if bearing witness to the union of the sun and the moon.

As dawn approached and the entwining of their bodies in their passionate dance ended, they stood at the cliff's edge, looking out over the horizon. Lunaria turned to Soleil, his voice barely audible over the wind. "The night ends, and with it, our dance. But the stars will remember."

Soleil, his eyes glistening, nodded as he gave the man a gentle kiss on the forehead. "And the sun will always seek the moon."

They parted as the first rays of dawn broke through the night, their figures bathed in golden light.

Nathan paused his typing, the room now enveloped in silence except for their soft breathing. He felt exposed, vulnerable, and a flicker of lightness within him. In a roundabout way, he had revealed a part of his aromantic asexual identity to Johnathan. Lunaria, the character in their writing, had allowed him to be more open about it than he could ever be himself.

Breaking the silence, Johnathan spoke, his voice filled with awe, "Nathan... that was... I'm lost for words. It felt like you bared your soul."

Nathan looked down, then back up at Johnathan, uncertainty flickering in his eyes. He wasn't sure how to respond, having shared more than he had ever intended. But his hesitation didn't mean he trusted Johnathan enough to reveal more about himself.

"Maybe I did pour a bit of myself into it, or maybe it's all just fiction," he whispered, keeping his guard up.

They sat silently, the weight of their unspoken thoughts hanging in the air. Nathan stood up abruptly, his heart pounding with nervous energy. "I need some fresh air," he declared.

Nathan began to walk away, but Johnathan reacted swiftly, rising to his feet and intertwining their hands. He guided Nathan outside, the cool night air enveloping them beneath the starry sky.

Beneath the vast expanse of twinkling stars, Nathan felt akin to Lunaria, connected to the celestial beauty above. He gazed at Johnathan, who returned his gaze with tenderness and passion.

"Is your heart as distant as the moon? Cold and unyielding, untouched by affection like Lunaria?" Johnathan inquired, his curiosity pushing him to delve deeper. Nathan, however, didn't feel inclined to provide a direct answer, convinced that their relationship was destined to yield no meaningful outcome.

"What does it matter to you? I've told you it's all fiction. Just be cautious of the moon, John," Nathan responded, lifting his hand toward the radiant celestial body encircled by shimmering stars. "It's easy to be led astray, tested, and toyed with by feelings as fickle as the tides."

Undeterred, Johnathan pressed on, his voice unwavering, "Yet the sun longs to warm the moon, to bask it in its radiance and thaw the coldness. To shower it with passion and care."

Nathan chuckled softly, a slight smirk playing on his lips. In a breath's span, he closed the distance between them, cupping Johnathan's cheek with a gentle hand, his thumb tracing over the softness of his lips.

"Even if the moon can never reciprocate such passion and care? Forever suspended in the frigid night sky, overshadowed by countless other dazzling stars vying for the sun's attention? Can the moon ever grasp the intensity behind the sun's rays? The allure that captivates the moon yet remains unattainable?" Nathan's voice transformed into a whisper, his breath mingling with Johnathan's.

Nathan watched intently as Johnathan's breath hitched, his voice caught in his throat, rendering him unable to respond to the profound questions posed. The subtle changes in Johnathan's expression and the tension in his body conveyed a mixture of surprise, contemplation, and a touch of vulnerability. Nathan realized that Johnathan had never contemplated sexualities to such depths before.

"The sun should ponder why the moon rejected its advances. What is real, and what is fiction? Where do the boundaries blur, if they blur at all?" Nathan continued, his lips brushing softly against Johnathan's, the latter's trembling hand trembling, beads of sweat forming on his forehead. Despite Nathan's lack of desire, he yearned to witness Johnathan's honest and heartfelt reactions.

"As Lunaria once said, for tonight alone, let the moon be yours, and the sun will be mine. I make no promises for the future. But for this single night, I place my trust in you as a testament to the sun's unwavering desire for the moon."

Nathan leaned his head against Johnathan's solid yet tender chest, briefly capturing the rhythm of his heartbeat and the fickle nature of his breath. After taking a deep breath, he spoke, his words resonating with determination as he began unveiling the abyss within his soul.

"Until the break of dawn, I am yours to love and touch. Let the stars bear witness to our connection."

Johnathan fell momentarily silent, his body warm as his trembling hands encircled Nathan's waist, pulling them into an intimate embrace and preventing Nathan from escaping. Nathan observed Johnathan's eyes and caught the flickers of uncertainty and desire within them, entwined with an attempt to discern the moment's authenticity.

"Then, until the morning light arrives, I will hold you close and declare my love. Words are flowing from my heart, unburdened by falsehoods. No need for kisses or touches beyond this embrace. The sun yearns only to reveal the depth and sincerity of its feelings to the moon."

Under the starlit sky, they stood, their bodies embraced by the cool night air. Nathan felt the genuine warmth of Johnathan's touch, and even though his heart didn't take long for the same desires, he sensed a connection—a bridge between their souls.

As the night unfolded, they conversed, laughed, and shared stories, the tapestry of their words interwoven with the sparkling constellations above. Nathan discovered new facets of Johnathan's being, just as he allowed Johnathan to catch a glimpse of his own.

With the arrival of dawn, they stood apart, their eyes locked in a shared understanding. Nathan offered a soft smile and whispered, "The night draws to a close, and along with it, our dance. But the stars shall forever remember."

Tears welled up in Johnathan's eyes, and he nodded, his voice barely audible as he replied, "And the sun will always seek the moon."

They parted ways as the first rays of dawn painted the sky, bathing their figures in a golden embrace.

Returning to his seat in front of the Macbook, Nathan carried a lightness that had evaded him for far too long. He had taken a step, however small, toward vulnerability, and the night had been nothing short of magical.

Closing the document, Nathan sensed Johnathan's presence behind him. He turned to find Johnathan standing there, a soft smile on his lips.

"Nathan, thank you for tonight. Thank you for sharing a part of yourself," Johnathan whispered, his voice laced with gratitude and admiration.

A gentle flush tinged Nathan's cheeks, but he tried to maintain his usual aloof demeanor. His voice, though, softened unintentionally, betraying a hint of tenderness. "Don't read too much into it. I am not Lunaria, and he is not me. Lunaria is a product of my imagination, nothing more. We were tasked with writing a romance, so that's what I did."

Johnathan nodded, preparing to leave, but he glanced back at Nathan before he did. "The sun will always be here whenever the moon is ready," he said, kissing Nathan's forehead quickly before departing the room.
