Chapter 1:
Comet's Trail
“I remember it like a dream. There are details that are so rich in my mind, and others that are just as hazy. It was 10 years ago, the night of the starshower, specifically the night the Lovesong comet was supposed to pass over Erd.”
“That it did.” Said the mournful leader bandit.
“It’ll forever be a tragic moment in our his’try and in our lives.” Said the one tied up by Chin’s side.
“Come on you guys, imagine that it did a bit of good for someone. Think positive. It’ll be a day I remember always. I was outside watching the Starshower when suddenly and unthinkably the comet picked up speed and made a u-turn shooting straight down and then another turn blazing right by my face. And in that moment-”
“Your whole house and family was wiped out like it was ours!” volunteered a sobbing bandit from behind Chinko.
“No. No. No. It passed by me, doing little more than trimming the grass, but in it’s sparking, silvery-pink trail I saw a view that would forever set the course of my life. I was looking straight ahead at what should have been a haze of embers and smoke, but instead I saw a girl.”
“A girl?” The bandits said in unison. I sighed and took a seat on a log, since it was obvious what was coming next.
“Love starts in the mirror When she’s looking back at you
Oh, it’s true Your heart parts Like the sea, except it’s fire She sees me And ignites my desire to follow this comet’s trail to you
And though you know it’s only temporary The only thought that catches on Is Oh, my god that’s the girl I’m gonna marry
Love starts In the mirror when she’s looking back at you Oh, it’s true
Your heart parts Like the sea, except it’s fire She sees me And ignites my desire
But does she see the same comet passing by Does she notice from her garden am I just a plant, or bug on a tree? I thought then I’ll see I’ll track her down no matter how far then I hope
Love starts (Love starts) At the passing of a burning star of love Love parts (Love starts) The sea of my freeform youthful heart Love marks (love starts) The path that I’ve been treading for about 2 days since setting out from my hometown of Keer!
I’ll follow that burning path of love Blazed by the comet 10 years ago. I’ll find my love I saw that night The destiny my Lovesong sewed And my journey is a go!
My love starts here! (Love starts here!)”
At some point the Bandits had joined into the song as back-up and were running around dancing while still having their hands, feet, and entire bodies bound in rope. It was a comical, tiring sight. I had wanted to got to sleep, but…well, this happened.
There was a mighty “Huzzah!” as the song came to a close. Chinko stood among the tied up bandits in a gallant pose. There were smiles all around as the cheerfully body slammed each other in celebration.
“You want to hear another verse” my vexing older brother shouted. It was then that I decided to intervene.
“Dearest brother?”
“Yes?”
I jumped into the air and came down on his face fist first. I summoned my Hell Fire which encased my hands in purple flame.
“Anyone else want another verse?” I threatened.
The bandits sat down on the spot in sheer terror. Good. I nodded and dispelled my flame. Why does he have to be such a pain? This whole journey was such a terribly thought out idea from the beginning. I want to take a nap. I laid down a hefty log by the campfire.
“If I hear so much as a hum I’ll burn the whole wood down. That goes for you as well, Chin.”
The was a chorus of agreement, the only kind of chorus I was open to at the moment.
“Very well, good night gents.”
“Goodnight” They whispered in response.
“Sleep tight Ars. As you drift off to sleep, the night sky-aiyaiyai” As he began another song I hit him with a blast of Hell Fire.
“That’s your last warning. Not a single note. Capeesh?”
After that there were no more interruptions and I drifted off to my sacred sleepy dreamland. Oh, how I wish I could go back in time and stop this foolishness. Everyone in our family is such a fool. I thought back to that morning one week ago...
