Chapter 31:

Rescue Mission

Watch Over You

I sat patiently in the hospital room, waiting for my saviours to rescue me. I had messaged Hiroshi my room number and asked him to bring me spare clothes. He replied with a thumbs up and replied telling me that he’d already known where I was in the hospital. I was scared to ask how, so I did not ask him. I carefully turned off my heart rate monitor and IV machine, so that no beeping noises could alert the nurses outside my door. I’d hoped Hiroshi and Yuta would choose a stealthier approach to freeing me from the hospital, I for once, needed Hiroshi’s intelligence to kick in. I stood from my bed, wanting to look outside my room to see who was outside. There were two night-shift nurses on duty, but they appeared half-asleep from their long-shifts. In a split second, a small figure rushed past my vision to the nurses as they sat at the reception.

“H-Hello?” The small figure asked.

‘Yuta…’ I thought.

The nurses woke up with an immediate effect at the sight of Yuta.

“What are you doing here, little one?” One of the nurses asked.

“My mommy, I’m looking for her…” Yuta lied.

I could see Yuta begin to fake cry. The little devil-child was a genius, an actor and a terrorist rolled in one small body. Both nurses walked over to Yuta, comforting him.

“Don’t cry little one,” The nurse began, “Who is your mommy?”

“She’s a doctor, I was asleep and then…and then…” Yuta sobbed.

“Do not worry, let’s go together and look for her.” The nurse said as she took hold of Yuta’s hand.

“She said she’d be on floor five, I don’t know where that is.” Yuta said with teary eyes.

“Ah, that’s just one floor down, let’s go.” The nurses said.

As Yuta walked away with the two nurses, he turned back, facing me as I leered from my room. Yuta smiled at me, but his smile was sinister, demon-like.

“That child is actually going to assassinate me one day.” I remarked.

Then, a knock on my door. I jumped backwards, not knowing who it was.

“Hellloooo~~~” The voice chimed.

It was the worst attempt at a feminine voice I’d ever heard. Hiroshi revealed himself to me as he quickly entered the room. He was dressed in a female nurse’s uniform, with a blonde wig and makeup to hide his masculine facial features. I tried to contain my laugh as I saw him appear.

“W-What are you wearing?” I asked, holding in my laugh.

Hiroshi posed, placing a hand on his hip, and blowing me a kiss.

“I look good, don’t I?” He replied.

I couldn’t hold back. I walked up to Hiroshi, hugging him. He did not know how to respond to my sudden action.

“I’m sorry Hiroshi.” I stated.

“F-F-For what?” He asked.

“For not being a good friend. For lying about being okay, for being angry at you. I’m sorry for it all. You truly are a good-no great friend. Perhaps even my best friend.”

I let go of Hiroshi. The man was stun locked. I could see him smile firmly. And my good friend patted my shoulder. I could see his eyes were bloodshot red, he had been crying.

“I accept your apology.” He smiled.

I smiled back.

“Here, put this on.” Hiroshi said, handing me a bag.

“Thanks.” I replied.

“Uh, when you put on that disguise… we are still going to be friends, right?” He asked me.

“Why do you say that?” I enquired.

“Well…”

“You bastard.”

We were able to walk past nurses and security guards alike in the hospital. Hiroshi (dressed as a female nurse) and I (dressed as a pregnant mother) were inconspicuous. We moved down into the floor below us, Hiroshi instructed me to wait before moving further down.

“Ah, mama!” Yuta yelled.

Yuta removed his hand from the other nurse, rushing into Hiroshi’s arms.

“My boy! I was looking for you!” Hiroshi said in a fake high-pitched voice.

I continued watching the nurses’ reactions, they did not pick up on the obvious fake disguises.

“I apologize, ladies. I was just taking this pregnant patient on a walk because she wanted some fresh air.” Hiroshi said to the nurses.

I nodded my head, refusing to speak in case I would jeopardize their mission.

“We understand, no need for apologies.” The one nurse replied.

“Want to go on a walk, my son?” Hiroshi asked Yuta.

“Yes mama!” Yuta replied, “Thank you, ladies, for helping me find Hiro-I mean…mama!”

“Of course, enjoy!” The nurses said, they laughed as they walked away.

Yuta walked up to me, he looked anxious as he did. I bent down to the child.

“Hey, little Yuta.” I said to him, ruffling his hair.

“Hi, David.” He replied, nervous.

“You did very well on your mission, your master will have to buy you some more guns.” I spoke.

“Are we still friends, David?” Yuta asked.

“Of course we are; tomorrow we can do a mission together.” I replied.

Yuta smiled.

“Now, let’s go before they catch on to us.” Hiroshi said.

The three of us walked out the front door of the hospital like ghosts. I was impressed, but concerned, at Hiroshi’s ingenuity. Hiroshi had a parked car in the parking lot of the hospital, getting in, I thanked them both again.

“You two really are something.” I stated.

“Of course, my master’s a genius.” Yuta replied.

“I’m a super genius.” Hiroshi gloated.

“But Hiroshi…Where did you get these clothes? And that nurse outfit?” I asked him.

Hiroshi turned on the ignition of the car, driving away without replying to my question.

“Hiroshi.” I stated.

“I believe some things should not be discussed in front of Yuta.” Hiroshi replied.

“Huh? What are you talking about?” Yuta asked.

It was around three in the morning when we arrived at the boarding house. Hiroshi parked his car in the driveway. I was going through my thoughts as we sat in the car. I wanted to plan out how I should explain everything to Misako. But I did not know how.

“It’s going to be rough, David. Speaking to her.” Hiroshi stated.

“What?” I asked.

“You can’t plan how things will turn out, no matter how hard you overanalyse, it will never go your way one hundred percent. Just go with the flow.” He told me.

He tapped my shoulder, giving me confidence.

“Thanks.” I replied.

I opened his car door, ready to enter the house.

“How is she doing?” I asked Hiroshi one last time before going inside.

“Not good. She hasn’t been outside her room in a few days. Hasn’t spoken to anyone.”

“I’ll make her talk to me.” I stated.

“Of course, she needs you.”

“Sometimes, you just know when to say the right things.” I said to Hiroshi.

“Go on, pal. I’ll drop Yuta off at his house.” Hiroshi said, pulling out of the driveway.

I nodded, and took a deep breather. I was going to tell Misako everything.

The pieces of the puzzle were solved.

“Let’s do this.” I said out loud.

And I stepped inside the house.
