Chapter 4:

The factions

Quest of Destiny: A Chronicle of a Reborn Hero Seeking a Fated Love

I turned five years old, still wondering if everyone in this world saw both tutorials at the age I did. I had no memories of my first five years on Earth, and it seemed impossible for me to process all the information that was given to me. I discovered that my companions in the orphanage acquired the tutorials in the same way I did. However, within the classes we received in the playroom, each specific topic from both tutorials was discussed to help us process and understand the world we were in as we grew up.

The system didn't mention the small detail of money. Even in this world, I couldn't escape that fiction. In some missions, it was given as a reward to acquire food, equipment, weapons, or upgrades. I had acquired the basics during the few moments I could go outside. I had a dagger and the lowest-level equipment available. There were six professions, and I had started learning cooking to spend more time with the only mentors I had in the orphanage.

Gathering ingredients sometimes involved learning from the fish market's fishing techniques, another task I always enjoyed trying in video games. It was indeed very relaxing and rewarding. My logbook was filled with achievements corresponding to both jobs, and the skill tree contained a section for professions. To select the basic class, it was necessary to reach the basic level in each of the jobs, ensuring that by reaching adulthood, one could be a valuable inhabitant capable of performing any required task. It was an interesting way to see the world, and I couldn't complain. The levels of the professions were: Novice, Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced. This meant that by the time I turned fifteen, the profession level would be Intermediate.

Later on, I learned tailoring, blacksmithing, jewelry making, and herbalism by interacting with the corresponding NPCs located in areas surrounding the market. Since these were skills I never learned in my previous life, I was more than satisfied to acquire as much knowledge as possible. Each profession felt equally valuable to me. I didn't forget that I was in a race to uncover many secrets of this world and that the faster I learned to fend for myself, the quicker I could evolve and grow in power.

The main missions that were unlocked according to my level and power provided me with significant information about the RPG component existing in Jōkuni. From what I could deduce, this place was named after having a structure similar to a fortress created by the geography itself, where countless wild creatures gathered in groups forming what could be called a dungeon. The people in the village remained inside and didn't venture even an inch beyond the mountains, considering that there was nothing to see but deathly creatures. Then there were those who desired exploration and expansion of the borders, arguing that beyond the mountains, there could be more than what meets the eye.

The division between both sides was very evident, even becoming a topic of discussion in the castle. The imperial regime agreed with those who preferred to stay inside who were called Insiders, although they didn't punish or have any penalties for the explorers or Outsiders. It was the people inside who organized themselves as a kind of cult to prevent the expansion of the borders. There were rumors of torture and hunting of adventurers, which resulted in very low power levels in the area. An agreement was reached to use certain dungeons that weren't too far away, but leveling beyond the new limit established by the government and the Insiders faction was not allowed.

Ironically, the explorers lived in the castle, serving the Emperor and his family, as they had classes useful for the protection of others. It was inevitable to feel intrigue and fear about what they would do to me because obviously, I would be an Outsider. I had to be very careful to stay in the permitted dungeons, surpassing the power of the majority in this place, and then I would venture into the forbidden areas, knowing that there would be no one who could stand in my way. Well, that's what I thought, and I was quite wrong.

As I grew up, people around me were amazed by my power points with such a low level, and I evaded attention by acting like any child my age. Soon enough, I couldn't keep up the charade as I was running around completing missions and improving my profession skills. I earned the nickname "Child Prodigy" which didn't make me happy at all. It was, in a way, cheating for being a reborn person and retaining the memories of my life as a human.

I also didn't like the fact that it attracted more attention than normal, as I didn't want to raise suspicions and get into unnecessary trouble with the Insiders faction. I was sure they wouldn't mess with a child. I had a truce period to make myself stronger. On second thought, I corrected myself. There was no reason to be discontented with maintaining my memories. The way this world was shaping up, it was a blessing. I would continue increasing my power, and someday I would reach the castle to find the Outsiders and obtain more information from them. It was one of my objectives, and I was sure that I would find more secrets of this world there.

Tutorial Stage II didn't mention the types of classes and their specializations, but I read about them in the logbook. There were eight basic classes: Guardian, Fighter, Rogue, Ranger, Wizard, Elementalist, Bard, and Druid. Each of these classes had two branches for specialization at level eighteen. I still had no idea which class attracted me the most. I wanted to learn a bit about each one to get an idea, and for that, I had to do more missions in the village. I went to the area where the NPC master responsible for helping you choose your class was always available.

[Hey there, little one. What would you like to know today?]

A. How can I obtain a class?

B. I'm interested in learning about this specific class...

C. Initiate class selection ceremony (Unavailable)

D. Actually, I don't need anything, thanks.

Option A didn't give me any additional information; it was the same thing I already knew. I had to level up, complete missions, and improve my professions to unlock the class selection quest at level fifteen, and subsequently, one of the two specializations of that class at level eighteen. Option C was highlighted in gray on my player interface, but I still tried to select it, only to receive the message "Not Available." I came to this place for option B, and I wouldn't leave until I obtained detailed information about each class.
