Chapter 3:

So, I guess we finally reached this moment

Quest of Destiny: A Chronicle of a Reborn Hero Seeking a Fated Love

I would have liked to say that, with my memories, I took advantage of the first three years of my life as a prodigy, but being born and raised in the orphanage, my resources were extremely limited. Without the ability to speak or walk, I spent a considerable amount of time lying in what was my crib, contemplating the ceiling, reading Tutorial I, and having existential crises. What was once fantasy for me had become my reality, so I started dreaming about the "real" world and all its "What Ifs" If only I had pencil and paper, with the motor skills my little hands didn't allow yet, I could have written a couple of novels during my most creative states. The only thing I had at my disposal was my memory. If I ever returned to Earth with memories, I would write down everything that went through my mind during that inert time.

I noticed that the older woman who picked me up at the door on the day I was born still didn't show many emotions; she acted as if she were programmed to perform her duties like a robot. I ventured to think that she was an NPC with whom I couldn't interact yet to obtain information. As for Tutorial I, I accessed it to reread every phrase spoken by what I called the System. I was eager to ask why I couldn't talk about being a reincarnate. What was the problem if I said it? Was it considered taboo? I felt there were many inconsistencies in the information I was given, which frustrated me on numerous occasions.

If meditation didn't exist in this world, I invented it. It was my final resource when I was on the verge of paranoia. I recalled the analyses and tests of its benefit to humanity, so I decided to become a test subject, resigned to having nothing else to do. At first, nothing worked. The sheer number of thoughts racing through my mind didn't allow me a few moments of blankness to discern and understand what was happening to me. As time went by, it became easier for me to spend minutes meditating. I even reached the point where I could spend hours disconnected. I was grateful for having started that activity; otherwise, I would have gone crazy. I wondered if there were other reincarnates who had to go through the same process as me or if they were fortunate enough to spawn at an age where they had the user interface and all the tutorials available. There was only one way to find out, and that was to wait.

The day came when I reached the age required to unlock the user interface. I turned three years old by walking and speaking as best as I could. I had to learn by listening to the few other children in the orphanage. The place only had a large number of beds, a bathroom that became too small even with so few of us, and another room that served as the kitchen and dining area. Next to it was a spacious room for the children to play in. The NPC woman limited herself to saying the bare minimum she was programmed for. For a few months, I didn't notice that there was a cook with emotions who tirelessly chatted with the person in charge of the playroom. It wasn't until I grew old enough to crawl that I reached the kitchen and overheard them talking about a topic I preferred to forget, although clearly I wasn't successful.

The long-awaited message arrived on the night of my third year in Jōkuni. The same robotic voice of the System that had given me the first tutorial started speaking in my head.

[Achievement Unlocked: The First Three]

[Achievement Unlocked: Activate the player interface]

As soon as the HUD achievement unlocked, my eyes saw countless icons appearing here and there in my field of vision. The book, where I repeated the tutorial, remained in the lower left corner. Above it was an icon of a tree, and above that, an icon of a Japanese helmet called a kabuto. In the upper left corner, inside a circle, I saw my reflection. To the right of my face were the bars for Level, with a three beside it, HP, MP, and a small number that could be my power: thirty. In the upper right corner, there was a blurred map and next to it, a backpack icon, which I assumed was the inventory. Finally, in the lower right corner, there were four empty circles, with the fourth one being slightly larger than the others. That was the composition that remained.

[You have successfully reached level three and unlocked the player interface! What you are seeing at the moment is the minimized version of your progress in our world. At the top are the level bars, HP representing your life; if it reaches zero, you're dead. MP represents mana and helps you use skills. The number thirty is your current power. The limit is ten million points. Entering the circle containing your face will show your base statistics, which will be modified when you reach level fifteen.

The kabuto is the menu for accessing equipment, including weapons, clothing, and appearances. In the tree menu, you will find the skills corresponding to your class and professions. The book menu, which you already recognize, is the logbook that includes mission records and achievements. The expanded version of the map can be accessed from the right, and next to it, you have the inventory where you can store multiple objects as long as you have enough space. Amulets obtained from missions and battles can also be added to this inventory without occupying any slots.

To unlock skills, you must learn them from an NPC master. For now, their skills will be related to the available professions. Later on, as you gain more power and choose your base class and specialization, they will transform accordingly.

The basic class is unlocked at level fifteen. Before choosing one of the eight available classes, you must complete a series of main missions where you will learn and perform each of the existing professions to understand how the world works. Only then, at level fifteen, can you make a mature decision about your class for the rest of your life. There are no changes once chosen.

We recommend reading the logbook to get detailed information about the eight basic classes and their specializations. You can unlock your specialization once you reach level eighteen. We believe this is enough time for you to push the basics to their limit and become a great hero.

There are secondary missions that will help you understand certain aspects that are not mentioned in this tutorial. We recommend not missing them. In the surrounding areas of the village, there are creatures that can be wild, triggering spontaneous missions. You must be very careful not to go to those places without enough power, experience, or equipment. There is no level cap in this world, and the only way to die is if your life bar reaches zero. If you're concerned about your appearance, aging processes are not like in your world. People who are a hundred years old still look like they're thirty.

With this, we have covered a significant amount of information. Remember to complete main and secondary missions to gain a deeper understanding of specific topics. You can replay this tutorial in the logbook. To access any menu, simply think about entering it, and the same goes for exiting menus. Now, to hide the interface from your view, you just have to think about hiding it. It’s as simple as that! We believe no further explanation is needed; you will understand it in due time.

Jōkuni wishes you a happy journey!]

[Achievement Unlocked: Successfully Completed Tutorial Stage II]

As the System spoke, the icons illuminated, and I accessed them almost like magic. My mouth was open the whole time. It was too much to process and the System refused to elaborate any further, although I was more than prepared for whatever came next after living through the ordeal of those three years. With all the help now within reach, I was motivated to make this the best life I could ever have.
